How well did Arsenal play today.

The passing was almost faultless.

It was the best performance of the season by far.

Snowypeaks · 12/11/2024 20:37

Best performance for a few seasons, I reckon!

MustTryHarderAndHarder · 13/11/2024 09:04

Yes, you could well be right.

So pleased that Mariona made such a impact and scored an amazing goal.

MustTryHarderAndHarder · 16/11/2024 15:57

Another great win.

I hope they keep Renee on but I bet they won't.

Snowypeaks · 16/11/2024 18:42

For now, I would be content to hear that RS has the job until the end of the season. I have been rooting for her from the start, but she does need to prove herself under pressure, show that she can get us back on track if things go horribly wrong, etc.
If they don't give her the job after that because they have found someone even better, fair enough. I just don't want them to be dazzled by a "big name" and rush someone in at vast expense. They have said they are confident in Slegers, but you never know.
If a new manager came in, say, at Christmas then every time we hit a rough patch, all the fans will be saying, we want Slegers back. And that in itself could cause a problem. So they have to give her a fair crack. She's done well in the short term. The league is gone anyway. Let's see what we can do in the cups and the CL.

We were great today, but sloppiness started to creep in again in the second half.

MustTryHarderAndHarder · 16/11/2024 20:30

Yes, that is what I said to my husband. She deserves to stay until the end of the season at least, so hopefully they will give her that much.

Also, with Edu gone, they will have other things on their minds so it doesn't make sense to distract themselves with this when they don't need to.

Pleased Chelsea won today. We can aim for second place.

MustTryHarderAndHarder · 17/11/2024 16:57

Great result @DuncinToffee

Snowypeaks · 17/11/2024 17:25

Congratulations to Everton, good result.

DuncinToffee · 17/11/2024 17:35

Yes, Merseyside is blue💙

Never a pen but I won't complain. Our defence and Brosnan were immense.

Phew! We deserved to win but didn't think it would happen.

So pleased Bayern drew.

I know! I'd been half watching the game but stopped before the end and then heard the result just as our game started. Vålerenga were superb and could have won.

But re Arsenal, I knew it would be tough, but was sure we'd do it. And then when Libra Hurtig missed that easy header I had Man United away vibes. But thank goodness we made it!

Emma Hayes defending award if BBC Women's footballer of the year to Barbra Banda.

Just leaving that here.

Thank goodness for JKR. If she wasn't a billionaire and famous, women would have no voice.

Shame on Emma Hayes. I hope she is only saying bc she doesn't want to be cancelled in the USA.

A fantastic win for us today! Could have been 4 or 5, just a shame about the penalty, that was a needless gift.

First ever WSL win over Man City

Happy Christmas 💙Xmas Grin

Brilliant stuff, Everton Women. I saw the match. You defended superbly and were so efficient in attack. Both goals were beautifully taken. Toni Payne is a great outlet though her decision-making could do with some work. I thought Wheeler was outstanding, but the whole team played well. Great game plan from Sorensen. Never looked like losing, IMO.

Snowypeaks · 15/12/2024 17:37

I'm thrilled with the Everton result for selfish reasons as well, obviously! Thank goodness we came through against Liverpool. I haven't seen it yet, was following the radio commentary and it sounds like it was one of those you grind out, but...three lovely points.

Great night for the women (and men).

When are they going to give Renee the job?

Great night for the women (and men).

When are they going to give Renee the job?

God knows what they are up to.

I have this horrible feeling that she has said to the club that she doesn't want it... and means it. Because otherwise it doesn't make any sense not to offer it to her. Perhaps she is only enjoying it and doing so well because she knows it's temporary? She always deflects praise onto the team, or emphasises (rightly, IMO) that coaching is a team effort so I continue to wonder if she has enough ego for it. Or she may have decided, after getting sacked from Rosengard, that the top job wasn't for her. I think she is keen to remain an involved mother as well - although I can't see how being head coach would take up significantly more time away from family in Holland than being assistant coach.

Anyway, she should get the job. If everything goes wrong afterwards, we can still sack her. And unless they have the next Emma Hayes or Sarina Wingman lined up, the permanent appointment is going to find her a hard act to follow.

Another thing about her which I find quite funny is that nobody seems to mind losing to her. Did you see how happy Straus was for her at the end of the game? And Matt Beard after the Liverpool game.

Snowypeaks · 18/12/2024 23:36

Anyway... It's been lovely chatting/venting about the season so far but I'm taking a break from Mumsnet for a few weeks. (Who am I kidding? I'll probably be back in a day or so! 😁)

So merry Christmas to all. Hope Santa brings you something nice.

MustTryHarderAndHarder · 19/12/2024 08:56

Yes, I didn't see Matt Beard, but the BM coach was beaming!

MustTryHarderAndHarder · 19/12/2024 09:22

I hope everyone has a great Christmas (I won't be taking a break from MN though!)
