Yay! Thank you, DuncinToffee

MustTryHarderAndHarder · 05/09/2024 09:09

I hope that Foord did not use up her goal allocation for the season yesterday.

She was brilliant.

DuncinToffee · 05/09/2024 09:15

I saw her being called Cailtin Fourd Grin

I saw that, too - and I've only just got the joke!

Yeah, it would be great if she could keep the prolific scoring up. I hope Mariona's presence will help, both as competition and as partner-in-crime.

Yes, I meant to mention Mariona as well. I missed her joining us so was surprised when she was on the team sheet.

Kafaji was very impressive in the friendlies too.

Yey! New thread, thanks! Feel like a proper supporter as have bought a pack of home match tickets (Arsenal). First match at weekend for us and have been offered use of a box - so will have to wait and see what our seat mates are like in the normal seats😂

DuncinToffee · 17/09/2024 23:22

The FA Player seems to have deleted all the WSL stuff.

The YouTube channel doesn't show much at the moment.

I haven't seen a lot of the pre-season so not sure what to expect from Everton but I am excited for the new season

Toni Duggan has announced her retirement

Thanks you, football.
You were more than I could ever have imagined and what a ride it was.
The highs, the lows - not always perfect but so very, very special.
I’ll miss it. so much!

Oh dear. Let's hope we can play better at the Emirates. We were so unlucky tonight,

Miedema scored for City of course!

Snowypeaks · 18/09/2024 21:47

First goal of the game, as well.

We were unlucky but we really, really should have scored at least once. Also just like much of last season, we were pedestrian. It feels as if nothing has changed.

DuncinToffee · 20/09/2024 17:53

WSL kicks off tonight at 7pm with Chelsea v Aston Villa

I have been out all day yesterday and missed our match against Brighton, probably for the best from what I have read 😬

I saw most of the second half (Michelle Agyemang is an Arsenal loanee at Brighton) and it wasn't quite as bad as it sounds. Everything Seike touched turned to gold.

For the gooners amongst us, Agyemang got about 10 minutes - she was brought in towards the end just like the other new (but more experienced) forwards, which I think must mean she did well in training.

Thanks, I forgot about Michelle being on loan at Brighton.

Brighton's new Japanese signing got a hat-trick.

There are a lot of new Japanese players in the WSL this year. Their U20s are in the World Cup final tonight against North Korea.

I think a draw for us against Man City was a fair result although Foord's goal should have counted so we should have won.

DuncinToffee · 22/09/2024 14:46

Miedema was always going to score, wasn't she Wink

I can't comment on the disallowed goal because I don't have Sky and will be relying on the YouTube replays. But what I will say is that despite fans moaning about VAR, it ensures fairness and consistency. It's annoying and nitpicky, but it's the same for everyone.

We need the old Beth Mead back, and/or a new forward player who can finish, score goals out of nothing like Rachel Daly and Beth England used to do and like Vivianne Miedema has been doing her whole career. Stina and Alessia had golden chances with just the keeper to beat but missed. Everyone loves Russo but I don't think she is an absolutely top-drawer striker. We know Stina's failings but her USP is her pace and power. And statistically, on a goals per minute basis, they are near identical for goals scored. Beth Mead is still our best forward in the absence of Viv Miedema. If anything hurts us, it will be that.

And speaking of Japanese players, Hasegawais the best DLP/CDM in the WSL. And I say that as an Arsenal fan. Japanese players in general are a great fit for City.

Yes, she was. I was glad to see that there was no ill-will evident, because she doesn't deserve it.

Oxonc3 · 23/09/2024 08:18

@MustTryHarderAndHarder agree the lack of finishing skills was pretty shocking. Arsenal
could have been 4 or 5 up in first half. So many opportunities missed. Viv got a lovely lot of cheers and claps when she was subbed. One of the goals the goalie was clearly distracted by a player down in the box - human nature to be distracted but perhaps at this level a bit more lazer focus is needed.
Loved it when (McCabe?) skipped over a prone Chloe Kelly….
Man City got 5 yellow cards which seems a lot for one game. And yes the seats in the box were super comfy and non stop coffee was a bonus 😂

OP posts:
DuncinToffee · 23/09/2024 09:00

I wouldn't call non stop coffee a bonus, I would miss most of the match searching for the toilet Grin

Super comfy seats, I could definitely do!

North Korea won the U20s WC! I didn't realise how good they were.
