WIegman's interview afterwards was a bit weird with her saying that to win you need to score more goals. I don't know, it just felt off a bit.

She didn't seem prepared for Nazareth coming on

Just watched the highlights of the U23s. Both of Michelle's goals were brilliant.

I've never seen a free kick in the penalty area before.

I have never rated Serena but my husband always has and even he is changing his opinion now.

I have great pleasure in telling him "I told you so"!

DuncinToffee · 22/02/2025 10:55

She reminded me of Koeman in that interview. Grin

She seems very set in her ways. It works when the core of the team is available but it needs adjusting when they aren't.

I had forgotten that we had signed the Portugese goalkeeper Inês Pereira, oops

Yes, we were lucky that Nazareth didn't start.

Great news about Michelle and Katie. I didn't realise it was on. Was it on You Tube?

England YouTube, yes. Next one is Tuesday 25th February, also 7:30pm I think.

Good signing, Pereira seems like a strong character. I remembered her from previous competitions. Portugal have come on a lot.

Great result yesterday. It was difficult not cheering Mariona on.

I only saw the last half an hour but our defence was amazing.

Japan beat the Emma Hayes' USA yesterday.

Ditto re Mariona! 😆 She was very good after she got into it.

And I know we have Foxy and Nighswonger now, but I was still really glad Japan won. Can't stand Hayes and I have a soft spot for Nadeshiko Japan.

That's the way to beat Spain, isn't it? Great job by the Lionesses.

I didn't watch the game last night, have only seen the highlights. Great result.

Looks like Liverpool have sacked Matt Beard

Gosh, that's a surprise. I thought he was settled there and well liked by the players etc. From the BBC Sport article, it sounds like the club hierarchy don't think he can get Liverpool into the top 3 or 4.
Another interim manager, Amber Whiteley taking over - maybe she can do a Slegers. But not for another month, please Amber, as we play Liv twice in March!

Congratulations to all our @jfa_nadeshiko players on winning the SheBelieves Cup 🏆🇯🇵

First away win of the season, 2-0 against the Villains. Solid performance.

Yes, ours wasn't quite as straightforward.

Well done to Renee for making early and effective subs.

Love the sound of a World Cup on home soil! All power to the various FAs.

Not so keen on Club World Cup and Champions Cup - let's find out why women footballers have so many injuries first, please before we send them all over the world in what should be rest periods.

And in a segue...I am all for the expansion of the WSL and Championship by pausing relegation for a few years - as long as the measure being temporary is specifically part of the agreement, not "we'll see how it goes". Four or five years and then back to normal. And bring back Doncaster Rovers Belles...
In the long term, independent women's clubs may be the dominant model of ownership. We'll need stringent rules on financial fair play. I don't want it to turn into Premier League-lite, with massively expensive tickets and agents acting for both sides and obscene amounts of money spent on buying players and everyone being too scared to take risks. As well as referees and coaches, we need many more women to get involved as fans and reasonably priced days out, including for those who want to bring/send their kids will really help. If it doesn't end up as big as men's football, so be it. It's a different market.
I was interested to read about the alcohol trial, I wonder how that will go!

👀

Man City have sacked Gareth Taylor just five days before the League Cup final. Nick Cushing is back on an interim basis until the summer. The timing, ahead of a run of four games against Chelsea, is remarkable. Story here

The only thing that surprises me is the timing - perhaps the club hierarchy think that because Cushing was there before, he will hit the ground running?
I wonder what the players think?

Maybe Chloe Kelly should stay after all.

Not looking forward to playing Liverpool again next week.

I'd forgotten we have Liverpool again! I think we'll be fine, though. Being on the Emirates pitch will make a big difference and we have a couple of fast, aggressive players back.

Bad luck, Duncin'.

I'm amazed that Chelsea and Man City managed to play anything like decent football on that disgraceful pitch today.
I hope there will be many complaints- imagine if the Wembley pitch looked like that...

I agree. Shocking. If Pride Park gets the hosting gig, then it should have a duty to maintain the pitch to a reasonable standard.

kiterunning · 18/03/2025 19:09

And another appalling pitch for the Champions League match in Madrid. The farmer’s field next door is in better shape. So sick of this.
