Do Scottish fans really not support England?

There’s always a running joke about Scottish fans wanting anyone but England to win and supporting which ever team England is playing against. I totally get the friendly rivalry but is it actually true that most Scottish fans want England to lose in the Euros final or do most want England to win deep down given Scotland is out?

If England aren’t playing I think most England fans would support Scotland or Wales as fellow Brits, especially in a Euro or World Cup final!

The only fans 'bringing up history' have been English fans.

I disagree and believe it is.

I am English but I am hoping Spain win, only because the hype around football is unbearable and will be hundred times worse if they win.

This thread also brings up another issue I have with English football,why isn’t there a team GB, we are supposed to be a United Kingdom and yet the press, government, TV and Royals pay little attention to the Scottish and Welsh teams and yet they still expect the Scot’s and the Welsh to listen and endorse the English team.

It's frustrating, isn't it. Someone asks you why. You answer. They tell you no that's not true it's because X, Y and Z. 🙄

I don't feel strongly about any of the players tbh, other than accepting that many of the male players are hideously overpaid!

I don't care what a thread on MN says. It's well established that many Scots can't stand the English. The Scottish supporting anyone but the English is not about some 'cartoon' rivalry at all.

I’m behind England, I love the enthusiasm and positivity that comes around when they do well, can’t really be arsed with the idiots who are a bit mental about the anyone but England, a bit of light banter is good and funny. Love the Paddy Power advert!

I disagree with the former but I do think sadly that the latter is true. I always think less of those people though as I think it’s small minded.

Well the Scotland team have always been absolutely rubbish so it’s probably a jealousy thing for some.

There have been loads of great teams and performances over the years, England aren't that special.

How many English people are there? Maybe 50 million or so. Some of us are incredibly arrogant, some of us are incredibly humble. Some of us are British before we are English, some the other way round. Some want Scotland and the other UK teams to do well, some enjoy it when they lose. Some think "10 German bombers" is a hilarious song, others are absolutely mortified by it. Guess what - the same type of mix is found in other nationalities. The people who are writing generalised crap like "the English need to stop being arrogant" are being ridiculous. How can you expect a whole country not to have some arrogant voices (usually the loudest, sadly) among its people? If you don't think the Scots are capable of similar arrogance, have a listen to the lyrics to the 1978 world cup song "Ally's tartan army". Every bit as conceited and cringeworthy as anything the English have ever come up with. Sure, pull against us all you like out of friendly rivalry, but enough of the hate.

OK, I'll go out on a limb and say "most". Walk down any high street in Scotland tomorrow and ask 100 people if they want England to win and I'd say most of them would say "NO". And it's not small-mindedness on our part, quite the contrary, it's the small-minded attitudes forced upon US (as explained multiple times by various people on this thread) that's the cause.

No Scot js jealous of England! The England fans are an absolute embarrassment to themselves for a start... tip of the iceberg!
