Do Scottish fans really not support England?

There’s always a running joke about Scottish fans wanting anyone but England to win and supporting which ever team England is playing against. I totally get the friendly rivalry but is it actually true that most Scottish fans want England to lose in the Euros final or do most want England to win deep down given Scotland is out?

If England aren’t playing I think most England fans would support Scotland or Wales as fellow Brits, especially in a Euro or World Cup final!

It always amuses me how people still use WW2 as some kind of trump card even though the UK lost the moral high ground decades ago when they started wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. At least Germany knows how to show humility. The UK however still thinks it is Billy Bigballs. It really isn't. We are not the good guys anymore.

When Scotland/NIreland or Wales get as far as us in any Euro I'll care about their opinion until then they need to keep stump on anything football related HTH!
They did the same in the last Euro when we played Italy in the final (you know Italy the same traitors who switched sides half way through WW2) they wanted them to win as well.

Fucking Jeeze, congratulations on the most obtuse, thoughtless, offensive post of the entire fuckin thread 👏👏👏

I'd say Germany has dealt with it's past a lot better than many other countries have tbh. That's another discussion though and not related to football.

Are you calling Italians rats? You need to move on

LSTMS30555 · 13/07/2024 23:03

@redfacebigdisgrace Oh have you got second hand embarrassment on my behalf thanks but no thanks

LSTMS30555 · 13/07/2024 23:04

@cupcaske123 WHY? No one else moves on; the hatred of England by the rest of the UK & World is absolutely ridiculous

I had an idea what you were trying to say, yes, but you used completely the wrong word so nothing to do with spelling.
The Italian team are not rats, nor are they connected to WW2, they are a team of talented football players.
Also, if you actually read the posts you'd see that 'most of Scotland hate the English' isn't even remotely the sentiment being expressed here.

Because the war was long time ago. You're right, a lot of people don't like the English, including many Scots. Best not to get mired in it all and just get on with your life.

LSTMS30555 · 13/07/2024 23:08

@HollyKnight The UK didn't start the War in Iraq or Afghanistan the USA did when they blow up the twin towers as allies we did what we thought was right at the time; like I said short memories.
Anyway most of us didn't want the illegal war (I've never voted labour) that was down to Tony Blair & Co!

It is related to football. There is always hate towards Germany from the English bEcAuSe oF tHe WaR. Many will automatically support the team going against Germany. Yet they don't see the irony in complaining about other countries not supporting them because of past (and present) behaviour. The lack of insight is baffling.

LSTMS30555 · 13/07/2024 23:12

@cupcaske123 hence my first comment on this thread, we don't care that no one likes us but I will always defend Englands players they're not our government so why be spiteful to them? They're a bunch of talented lads doing what they love representing their country 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 the hate for them/us is phenomenal

Those who use WW2 or the Nazi regime from 80 years ago as a reason to hate the current Germany, current German people or the current German sportsmen/women really need to take a long look themselves.

Doesn't every side do what they think is right at the time?

Don't go throwing shade at other countries when your own has done atrocious things too.

As are the Italian team, the German team, the Spanish team and so on.

Indeed.

Hateful people hate. WW2 is low-hanging fruit.

It's already been explained countless times on this thread that it's not specifically about the players. I haven't read the whole thread but I haven't seen any vitriol towards the actual players. The vitriol is towards the English as a nation and the English centric media.

I would support any of the home nations if they got to the final of the Euros. However many don't feel that way and that's ok.

LSTMS30555 · 13/07/2024 23:19

@HollyKnight what you on about? You said we started the war in Afghanistan & Iraq but we didn't and like I said previously other countries constantly bring up the UK's history so damn right I'll bring up there's.

England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 all the way tomorrow peeps enjoy the show! 🦁🦁🦁

nietzscheanvibe · 13/07/2024 23:19

redfacebigdisgrace · 13/07/2024 22:58

@nietzscheanvibe maybe most Scots you know but that’s certainly not true for me and the Scots I know. Please don’t generalise about a whole country!

My posts have been quite measured and serious in their attempt to provide an honest explanation as to why some of us feel this way, and I've qualified on a number of my posts that I'm not speaking for everyone. And you're being disingenuous if you're suggesting that a very significant number of Scots DON'T feel the way I do.

The 'vitriol' isn't toward the 'English nation' really either, that's already been explained too.
