Starting a thread as it is only weeks away.

The Welsh cyclist who I saw win a medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and the raising of the Welsh flag will be there- Emma Finucaine, one of the fastest women in the world on a cycle.

Did they say that he is a cliff diver?

Marshtit · 29/07/2024 11:13

yes Gary Hunt,
now Red Bull cliff diver

Gary Hunt is multiple world champion cliff diver. Utterly amazing. 9 times WC I think.

He was a GB 10m diver before he switched to cliff diving.

he’s a lovely bloke and extremely supportive of youngsters. He’s often at the lower level comps for photos and autographs.

GB has a gold - Equestrian event. Congratulations to the team.

Has Leon calmed down a bit with his commentary style? My main memory of the last Olympics was watching the diving with slightly clenched buttocks as Leon cheerfully tore into any microscopic error with peak Simon Cowell style gusto.

Edited

Leon and Craig Heap (gymnastics I believe) concern me. I feel like they need a heart monitor at times!

MrsAvocet · 29/07/2024 14:57

Great MTB XC race. I'm actually not a big fan of Tom Pidcock, but credit where it is due, that was an awesome ride. Amazing to come back from so far down to win.

Lonelycrab · 29/07/2024 15:02

Yes it was an amazing win for Pidcock, watched the battle for gold and the move that did it for him was pure class! Absolutely stunning riding. Just wish I felt a bit happier but with today’s news unfolding it seems hollow😔

GeraniumJenny · 29/07/2024 15:15

Gosh the French are sore losers. I couldn’t imagine booing anyone for coming first.

Lonelycrab · 29/07/2024 15:28

I think the boos were because of the audacity of the winning move, there was contact and the French rider obviously came out the worse for it. But having watched the replay several times, Pidcock was already about 1/3 or a bike length infront- the French rider was on a certain line in the corner but Pidcock had beaten him to it. He’s an amazing technical rider.

I can't cope with Craig Heap, glad to be able to watch on Eurosport instead.
He's such a cock, tweeted Rhys to tell him he was being too arrogant a few years ago.

Men's team final artistic gymnastics 🤸‍♀️

Go Team GB

LightFull · 29/07/2024 16:37

Oh yes Pidcock managed that fork on the trail so well

LightFull · 29/07/2024 16:37

Tom and Noah were superb in the diving

AnnieMcFanny · 29/07/2024 17:09

I don’t know if it’s been mentioned already but Adam has tested positive for Covid.

Izzynohopanda · 29/07/2024 17:12

Just caught up with this thread (somehow missed it before). Was watching Olympics yesterday.

Didn’t quite ‘get’ the skateboarders. They’re the best in the world and they kept falling off! .

loved the women’s canoe slalom final. Very exciting!

(Sorry if this is 24 hours of date. )

Yes I saw that! He said he felt unwell. Hopefully he will be well enough to compete in the relays?

Great day for medals so far.
Two golds
Two silvers
Two bronzes!

Pidcock was outstanding, was a bit wobbly (I mean the situation was) there for the overtake to win!
The diving was great, once you see past the nailed on Chinese victory.

Just watched the canoe slalom! Just wow! The French gold medalist! Outstanding! All in all a good day so far! Swimming to come!

LightFull · 29/07/2024 18:16

FFS why don't they say the Olympics is continuing on BBC 2

Yes I should have checked myself by I got drawn into the news and missed some of the men's gymnastics

Oblomov24 · 29/07/2024 19:15

Watched some canoeing, skateboarding, men's gymnastics. Waiting for swimming now.

DuncinToffee · 29/07/2024 19:27

Saw some skateboarding today but didn't find it that interesting. Swimming now

MrsAvocet · 29/07/2024 19:56

Have to admit I was rather underwhelmed by the bit of the skateboarding I caught yesterday. I was expecting something "bigger" somehow - there's kids in our local supermarket carpark who can slide down rails just as well as far as I can see! I appreciate there's probably a lot more technical aspects to it but I expected to see something more impressive. I think there are other styles though that maybe involve bigger jumps etc so it might get more interesting later.

Sulusu · 29/07/2024 20:18

I very begrudgingly signed up for Discovery plus as too much content was missing from the BBC now.

I'm finding the commentary on Discovery quite woeful, especially the swimming commentators.

Also not finding the skateboarding or the surfing much fun to watch, which is sad as I love the Olympics for finding new sports to watch that I wouldn't normally. I'm just having a grumble as I miss the fantastic coverage we used to have during the Olympics!

Does anyone know when the modern pentathlon is on? That's usually very odd but entertaining viewing! 😀

LightFull · 29/07/2024 20:41

The BBC seem on top of things in the most part

It's been really easy for me to access exactly what I want to see after the event when I've missed it

I'm enjoying all the commentators so far

I've thoroughly enjoyed the gymnastics swimming and diving amongst others

Can't wait for athletics

Totally agree.

i watched 5 mins of the swimming last night on Eurosport and it had to go off! It was awful! A dull male American commentator and an Australian female commentator.

I suspect BBC are showing mainly what has been most popular for the last number of years, as they are only allowed to show two live events simultaneously.

Luckily as I subscribe to Sky sports I get discovery for free, but it’s dire

Fizbosshoes · 29/07/2024 22:44

I listened to the Tom Pidcock race on the radio at work and it sounded so exciting, I was glad to be able to watch highlights when I got in. And the diving! Amazing

I thought the skateboarding was really underwhelming in Tokyo - like a pp said it didn't look esp superior than skaters at the park or the southbank!

Also I feel really bad when they interview people who have just lost (see also wimbledon). I think it was Sharon Davies interviewed a young swimmer, who was piped by 100ths of a second to 4th place. He was obviously absolutely gutted and didn't want to talk!
