Starting a thread as it is only weeks away.

The Welsh cyclist who I saw win a medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and the raising of the Welsh flag will be there- Emma Finucaine, one of the fastest women in the world on a cycle.

Fiji's no12 is fun to watch

AndNobbyDancing · 27/07/2024 18:50

I'm not normally a fan of 7's but have enjoyed this competition and want Fiji to win.

15 a side is the greatest game ever devised.

GrouchyKiwi · 27/07/2024 18:52

Loving the 7s. Am glad it's at the Olympics.

Go Fiji!

It's second to cricket. Grin

Ready for the final gym session. Always nail biting wait to see who makes finals.
Rhys Mclenaghan will be in this session and the sexy Italians.

AnnieMcFanny · 27/07/2024 19:02

I really didn't like the two girl divers interview where I thought they were very unsporting, a bit like Adam Peaty loss at the swimming championships where he wasn't sporting in his first loss for years)

I didn’t warm to them at all. It was a poor interview but they’re young and hopefully they’ll improve with age.

I nearly spat my wine out. Nearly.

I'm glad you managed to avoid that. Wine should never be wasted.

Alas. I wanted Fiji to win this. France is on fire, though. Well done, France.

DuncinToffee · 27/07/2024 19:07

Convincing win for France

GrouchyKiwi · 27/07/2024 19:08

So much time wasting, though. That should be super frowned upon in Sevens.

GR is actually pretty involved in sport, he did triathlon himself for a while, and he supports a few athletes with their training etc.

rather him than Fred sirieix anyway.

I would rather see Fred any day than the foul mouthed Ramsey

GrouchyKiwi · 27/07/2024 19:16

Pretty shocking that Canada's women's football team has been cheating! They've been docked 6 points and their coach suspended for a year!

murasaki · 27/07/2024 19:17

It's a harsh punishment, but sends a message.

sending a drone

whereas in the past they would analyse opponents over videos?

Spirit of fair play, innit.

I guess there's a difference between seeing how a team is preparing to play you specifically (NZ was their first opponent) and seeing how they've played in the past.

They've apparently done it before and been told not to so I think the sanction is fair enough.

Not at all informed by me being a Kiwi, no sirree. Grin

BestIsWest · 27/07/2024 19:30

I like this floor banging thingy.

jay55 · 27/07/2024 19:30

It's a whopping fine too. Quite fantastic that women's football is important enough now that people try and gain any advantage.

DuncinToffee · 27/07/2024 19:37

The drone spying apparently has been going on for quite a while, both the women and men's football team

Marshtit · 27/07/2024 19:45

anyone else nervous for Adam Peaty later

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 27/07/2024 19:46

@Marshtit Nope, not in the slightest.

Normalwahatisnormal · 27/07/2024 19:47

Me neither!

AndNobbyDancing · 27/07/2024 19:51

Peaty's parents said in a interview how they used to sleep in a car outside the teams hotel as they couldn't afford the room. Stays with me that, the support in the background

It takes a lot to be an elite sporting parent. That support is so important.

Fantastic 400m Freestyle race in the swimming. German guy took their first gold since 1988.

GrouchyKiwi · 27/07/2024 20:04

Women's 400m was amazing too. Proud of Erika Fairweather's 4th. Titmus and Mackintosh were brilliant.

burblish · 27/07/2024 20:13

Both the men's and women's 400m freestyle races were fantastic, esp the women's. It was pretty much a foregone conclusion that the medallists would be Titmuss, Macintosh and Ledecky - the only question was in what order!

I'm so pleased that Adam Peaty seems to have found his form again, after some really difficult times. I applaud him for speaking so openly about his struggles (ditto the likes of Simone Biles and Max Whitlock) - I hope it inspires other sportspeople to feel they don't have to hide away on their own when they have mental health issues.
