Starting a thread as it is only weeks away.

The Welsh cyclist who I saw win a medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and the raising of the Welsh flag will be there- Emma Finucaine, one of the fastest women in the world on a cycle.

Something strange going on here…sherika Jackson and Elaine Thompson Herah have pulled out of the sprint races?

I thought Elaine Thompson Herah was injured earlier this year and didn't qualify for the team...
But surprised that Shelly Ann Fraser-Pryce pulled out through injury seemingly only minutes before the final?

AndNobbyDancing · 04/08/2024 14:18

I'm enjoying the rings. Had to move from BBC again as it is just too disjointed and repetitive

EasternStandard · 04/08/2024 14:21

There seems to be the tennis here but I might be missing stuff

The venue for the dressage was incredible. I didn’t love the opening ceremony but all the rest had been fantastic for spectacle

And also Jackson minutes before the 200m sprint heats

Ok switched to rings

AndNobbyDancing · 04/08/2024 14:31

To be in your first Olympics on rings at 35 is crazy. Very impressive.

AndNobbyDancing · 04/08/2024 14:49

I'm watching the uneven bars and heart stopped when the Chinese gymnast fell.

burblish · 04/08/2024 15:16

Kaylia Nemour on the uneven bars was incredible - and a first ever gymnastics medal for Algeria and a gold at that! Her difficulty level was beyond belief. Fantastic stuff!

EasternStandard · 04/08/2024 15:17

It was incredible. Such high difficulty

It was fantastic. Always appreciate smaller nations who defy the US and Chinese gymnastic machine.

Heart in mouth watching the women's skeet shoot off for gold and silver!

I know! I’ve not watched before so tense

She was part of the French team and would have been representing France but she had surgery (I think double knee) and France wouldn't clear her as fit to compete which is then why she moved to represent Algeria

burblish · 04/08/2024 15:33

Oh, such a shame for it to go down to a controversial moment, as Amber Rutter did hit the one that was called as a miss. Outstanding performance for the silver, and just three months after she gave birth.

Agree, that seems really unfair as was definitely a hit ! Amber was amazing wasn’t she though !

Holluschickie · 04/08/2024 15:39

Oh I see @AndNobbyDancing thanks for the clarification.

Supergirl1958 · 04/08/2024 15:39

Felt for Amber there, it was definitely a hit! Shame they can’t review it! Shocking decision! I’m pretty sure I wasn’t fit for much the three months after I had my son! She deserves a medal!

burblish · 04/08/2024 15:43

I know, it seems so odd that they use slow-mo replays in other competitions but not the Olympics, the most important one of all. And yet they manage to have bloody VAR for the Olympic football - go figure! 🙄

Supergirl1958 · 04/08/2024 15:44

It’s crazy! All they need is someone sat watching a monitor 🤷‍♀️

They could have got the pool lifeguards to do it 😁

Supergirl1958 · 04/08/2024 16:03

So happy for Djokovic winning his career slam! He really deserves that Gold Medal

burblish · 04/08/2024 16:12

What a Games Carlos Yulo has had - golds on both floor and vault! Well done, too, Harry Hepworth; Jake Jarman should be very proud of his bronze on floor although, as reigning World Champion on vault, I think he will be very disappointed with fourth.

EasternStandard · 04/08/2024 16:33

Yes well done Carlos amazing

I’m even enjoying golf for the first time I’ve watched

EasternStandard · 04/08/2024 16:44

Really pleased for Djokovic, a gold means so much even after loads of slams
