Starting a thread as it is only weeks away.

The Welsh cyclist who I saw win a medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and the raising of the Welsh flag will be there- Emma Finucaine, one of the fastest women in the world on a cycle.

Really pleased for Djokovic, a gold means so much even after loads of slams

Listened to/watched most of it. Was a good final! Alcaraz did well too, almost a shame one of them had to lose obviously.

Last night of swimming this evening, I’m a little bit gutted about that but alas, athletics will ramp up (I’m looking forward to the heptathlon which I think is 7th/8th or 8th/9th) and the velodrome always throws up some good entertainment!

AndNobbyDancing · 04/08/2024 16:57

I imagine the tennis thread is livid that Djok won, they really don't like him 😂

I cannot stand him! Gutted for Carlos.

Supergirl1958 · 04/08/2024 17:11

@AndNobbyDancing I’m the opposite! Im
a huge Djokovic fan. Have never really
liked Murray (I can hear the audible gasps) so I am absolutely over the moon he won!

MrsAvocet · 04/08/2024 17:14

Wow. The women's road race was absolutely superb, full of excitement.

Halfblindbunny · 04/08/2024 17:15

After all that way it was so close for 2nd 3rd and 4th. Absolutely gutted for whoever came 4th, I couldn't actually tell who it was.

Supergirl1958 · 04/08/2024 17:21

@AndNobbyDancing just had a look on that tennis thread just wow!! They really don’t like Djokovic! The guy had surgery and they called his knee brace fake and one of them even said that his crying (which also wasn’t fake) left them feeling cold!

😳👀🙄

Marshtit · 04/08/2024 17:33

I don't understand the cycling technique but the GB cyclist sadly lost her lead but ended up 5th, I guess they create a slip stream so sit behind and rest?

I'm not a fan of Djokovic but I have tons of respect for him and was happy for him winning the gold medal at last. I don't know how people can't be happy for him after seeing how emotional he was. You can see how much it means to him.

Alcaraz will definitely win it in the future.

LIZS · 04/08/2024 17:43

BBC swimming coverage is already lagging behnd

They are lovely on that thread really, but no they do not like Djok 😂. I have this wonderful name change just for the tennis thread although I'm only really active during Wimbledon - I do like tennis but love so many sports and have so little time

Glad to see the WR went in the 1500m free.

Supergirl1958 · 04/08/2024 18:06

@Sulusu i think you’re right about alcaraz!

The utter disdain for Nole on the tennis thread is sooo bad though! The fact they said his crying left them feeling cold was really bad though. It made me feel like they thought he was fake and it was clear he was utterly relieved and genuinely happy tears crying he had finally won!

@LIZS i believe the delay is due to BBC extending their coverage of the women’s road race then followed by the news

I saw your comments on there! Great job!

Oblomov24 · 04/08/2024 18:16

Watching the relay!

burblish · 04/08/2024 18:20

@AndDjokovicDancing "[I] love so many sports and have so little time" - snap! My dream job would be to be paid to watch sports!

Supergirl1958 · 04/08/2024 18:27

@burblish! You and me both, I always wonder if I’d be good as being one of those live commentary people on the BBC with the text commentary! That would be awesome!

burblish · 04/08/2024 18:31

Listening to the swimmers' interviews post-relay, Adam Peaty is SO hard on himself - he is recovering from COVID for goodness sake, and I thought he swam an excellent leg. Very tough to come fourth again, but I thought they did the best they could.

Oblomov24 · 04/08/2024 18:34

Women's relay. Last swimming race. Sad. Have enjoyed the swimming a lot.

Izzynohopanda · 04/08/2024 18:39

Really enjoyed the swimming also, and the presenters gave fine a stifling job.

The best swimmer though, is Leader. Wins every race!

Izzynohopanda · 04/08/2024 19:09

Held my breath for Hinchcliffe then.

MouseofCommons · 04/08/2024 19:17

Gutted for Louie.

Sulusu · 04/08/2024 19:22

Lyles looks good for the gold despite coming second in his heat. He looked so relaxed.

Would love it if we had an unexpected winner in the men's 100m like in the women's.

Yes its disappointing but getting to semis in his first Olympics is very good. I think sometimes we want everything instantly and there are always a few superstars that burst ionto the scene and win everything but there is nothing wrong with working up to something. Next time he is at the Olympics he will be an old hand and will hopefully get further.

EasternStandard · 04/08/2024 20:00

Amazing SF for Keely H

Marshtit · 04/08/2024 20:09

Great try for Phoebe Gill
Fantastic Keely
