Starting a thread as it is only weeks away.

The Welsh cyclist who I saw win a medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and the raising of the Welsh flag will be there- Emma Finucaine, one of the fastest women in the world on a cycle.

Hockey is a completely different sport these days to anything many of us will have played at school. My DS plays and when he first started I spent a lot of time very confused as the rules are quite different to in my day. No mud these days thankfully either, though one of the pitches DS plays on regularly is very sandy and my car looks perpetually like we've just been to the beach. I can't see either of the GB teams getting medals this year realistically, but live in hope! Sam Ward is my absolute hero. His return from hideous injury to be playing at this level is incredible so I would particularly like to see him get a medal. Fingers crossed...still in the game🤞

AndNobbyDancing · 04/08/2024 10:23

Agree it is, and much for the better, but I still just can't get into it.

I love team sports, especially rugby and football so should like it this but I just don't. Still watching though although I'm looking forward to it being over.

AndNobbyDancing · 04/08/2024 10:24

Just read up about Sam Ward. Impressive he has come back with vision loss.

MrsAvocet · 04/08/2024 10:39

Arrgh...penalty shootout. I can't watch!
A vastly better way of doing it than penalties in football mind you.

EasternStandard · 04/08/2024 10:47

Oh just caught the end I feel for them

MrsAvocet · 04/08/2024 10:47

😥 Very sad. Kudos to the Indian GK though. Some brilliant play from their whole team in fact.

Holluschickie · 04/08/2024 10:54

Outstanding performance from India being a man down.

Was really sad to see Shericka Jackson drop out of the 200, after Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce. Does anybody know why? But glad to see Darryl Neita and Dina Asher-Smith go through.

oh yes

Like spotting Snoop Dogg at all the different venues. He’s at the fencing this morning!! Not so much Where’s Wally, more Where’s Snoop Dogg !! 🤣

What's he wearing? I am loving his dressing up. How much luggage did he take?!?!?!

Izzynohopanda · 04/08/2024 11:36

Best bit about hockey was the bully-off, but that got dropped years ago.

It was a quick blink and you’ll miss him so couldn’t see his outfit but hoping it’s fencing regalia!! 🤺

Is Fraser Pryce out as well! There was the whole business of her not being allowed in the warm up area at a certain point because she didn’t travel on the team bus. I can’t see why she’s pulled out!

Sulusu · 04/08/2024 11:53

Just had one of those slightly surreal moments when I get home, switch on the TV and a horse is dancing to Another One Bites the Dust in front of Versailles.

Got to love the Olympics!

Totallybannanas · 04/08/2024 12:01

Yes, pretty impressive watching a horse dance to music! Not sure, how I feel about it though. How do they even begin to train them to do that? The horses do look absolutely beautiful though.

I believe it's injury. Unrelated to the bus fiasco.

A bully off is still used occasionally as a mid match restart in specific circumstances. There was one in one of the women's pool matches earlier in the week if I recall rightly, due to simultaneous fouls by both teams.

Supergirl1958 · 04/08/2024 12:55

Something strange going on here…sherika Jackson and Elaine Thompson Herah have pulled out of the sprint races?

She was allowed in eventually and the BBC showed footage of her in the warm up area., seemingly fine. Two other female Jamaican sprinters have pulled out of the 200m events…either something is going on with the Jamaican sprinting training programme or, there is something amiss here…

Sadly we all now know how Dujardan achieved her dancing horse. I've chosen not to watch any of the horse events including the modern pentathlon which is a favourite.

Strange

I’m so excited for the gymnastics finals this afternoon. It is so amazing to have GB athletes in them - I am surprised there hasn’t been more being made of it. Too much focus on Max and the athletics I guess.

Anyone know what event is happening in the background or why is the crowd going nuts & drowning out the presenters?

There might be pre-session hype going on in the background. There is a routine to open each session with the mascot, music, dancing and use of filters with cameras on the audience. Each session is opened by a former Olympian banging a stick on the ground three times, a French tradition olympics.com/en/news/paris-2024-olympics-why-three-strikes-before-event

Marshtit · 04/08/2024 13:55

the german dressage swung it with the french, edith Piaf music! Wink

AShortName · 04/08/2024 13:58

They don't make the horse dance to music - they find music that fits the natural rhythm and pace of the horse.
