Starting a thread as it is only weeks away.

The Welsh cyclist who I saw win a medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and the raising of the Welsh flag will be there- Emma Finucaine, one of the fastest women in the world on a cycle.

The three ladies in the BBC athletics studio all look amazing 😍

And does Denise Lewis just not age?

Denise Lewis is gorgeous

Supergirl1958 · 02/08/2024 21:06

@Theyweretheworstoftimes absolutely. Hopefully he gets some recognition!

He really has been the star of the games! Is this it for him now?

Supergirl1958 · 02/08/2024 21:14

OMG Ian Thorpe! I had such an obsession with him when I was a teenager! 🙈

AndNobbyDancing · 02/08/2024 21:15

Why isn't Duncan Scott a household name?

Has anyone seen the map they get given?

Interesting to see the .ale swim suits of the 2000's I'd forgotten

AndNobbyDancing · 02/08/2024 21:15

And why doesn't Ian get a seat 😂

I was just about to say how lovely Duncan Scott is. I don't follow swimming so never really heard of him but he comes across as a genuine good guy as well as obviously very talented.

😂😂 he looked VERY erm…glowing!! Perhaps they were worried about the perspiration!

I honestly don’t think the man has aged, he’s put on a bit of beef, but he’s such a personality, I swooned when he kept winking at Claire. 🥰

Theyweretheworstoftimes · 02/08/2024 21:26

Duncan Scott doesn't court the celebrity lifestyle.

Scott made history after winning four medals - more than any other British athlete at a single Olympic Games - in Tokyo 2020, simultaneously becoming Great Britain's most decorated swimmer in Olympic history.[With an additional gold and silver medal in Paris 2024 bringing his total to eight, Scott became tied with Bradley Wiggins as the third most-decorated Olympian in British history.

*edited too late.

Should say full legged mens swimsuit

AndNobbyDancing · 02/08/2024 21:28

Apologies as I'm sure I've missed the comments, but I love the purple track.

I think there was talk at the time of how much it made them glide through the water faster or whatever.

Was it the Sydney games with Eric the eel? The guy who qualified from his heat because of all the false starts! interesting that doesn’t really happen in swimming any more.

Also loving the purple track! In the words of Sanka, it feels ‘very Olympic’ 😂😂

The two male boxers competing as women are not trans. They have disorders of sexual development that mean that they are XY males, potentially with atypical phenotypes, and were barred from competing in the women's sex class by the International Boxing Association. Challenging this has nothing to do with trans people.

AndNobbyDancing · 02/08/2024 21:35

The 10,000 m mens race gave me a workout, really enjoyed that. Have been disappointed that work has meant I haven't seen much live but watching on round up has been ok

Nice for the downstairs cloakroom I suppose.

Supergirl1958 · 02/08/2024 21:38

@AndNobbyDancing hopefully you’ll get to see a bit more over the weekend?

Im busy tomorrow so will see very little. Looking forward to the men’s tennis final over the weekend!

burblish · 02/08/2024 21:46

Thankfully, I'm on hols this week and next, so my Olympics viewing isn't being inconveniently interrupted by work 😁

Supergirl1958 · 02/08/2024 21:51

@burblish im lucky that I work in a job where I get the summer off. But it’s stopping me from declutterring! 🙈

I’ve followed his achievements for years. He’s an outstanding swimmer, seemingly without an ego. He doesn’t court the limelight at all, he often reminds me of a young Andy Murray in his demeanour.

In his post race interview last night he talked about the 300 pools that had closed in the UK since COVID and his work at grass roots level and how expensive it was for his family to travel to some of his competitions.

Such a down to earth and talented young guy.

i agree, he is over looked when his achievements are immense

marchand's parents are both olympic swimmers

AndNobbyDancing · 03/08/2024 10:16

I am loving the rowing.

Bronze in the women's eights

Gold in the men's.

Especially liked being thanked for my contribution by playing the lottery 😂

AndNobbyDancing · 03/08/2024 10:23

Although I'm not sure I understand the BBCs obsession with talking about dead relatives.

Agreed, its starting to get a bit like X Factor. Just being an excellent athlete isn't good enough you have to have a traumatic event in your personal life as well.
