Starting a thread as it is only weeks away.

The Welsh cyclist who I saw win a medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and the raising of the Welsh flag will be there- Emma Finucaine, one of the fastest women in the world on a cycle.

Thanks @Supergirl1958 ! I wouldn't have been able to cope with an evening like this morning - i was far too stressed, emotional & felt ill! Took me a while to calm down, it was amazing!

I was trying desperately (and failing!!) to get jobs done! I’ve really enjoyed it. I highly recommend audio as well as visual coverage! It makes it more enjoyable!

Oblomov24 · 01/08/2024 04:22

It's sad that these days many of the swimmers, have not just the Phelps body, but many of them now have the same qualities: hyperextension, adhd, MH issues.

Oblomov24 · 01/08/2024 04:23

I've missed most of the Biles stuff. Will have to rewatch.

Itsallok · 01/08/2024 05:13

Jess Fox in her canoe - amazing!

Why is it sad? Athletes are flung into the limelight (not knowing they have these MH difficulties-in the case of Adam peaty I think he was only recently dx with ADHD!). Then the general public see fit to pass comment on every aspect of their life and their performances for something they spend day in and day out working hard for….!

EasternStandard · 01/08/2024 07:49

Loved the rower talking about her diary note this morning. I wonder how old she was

I found their emotion really moving

Love watching Simone Biles perform and whole US team, they really are incredible

Missed some of the events but feel hooked now

I think they always have. Phelps trained every single day. He didn't ever have a holiday.

To be the very best you have to be wired differently. The discipline for years and years with no guarantee of meeting your goal
The obsession. I'm in awe of them

WrittenOnWater · 01/08/2024 07:55

Lola Anderson? She’s 26. It was so emotional!

Yes it made me a bit teary

And watching Yee made me ecstatic

WheresSummer99 · 01/08/2024 08:46

The bmx wow love the commentary reminds me of snowboarding names

WheresSummer99 · 01/08/2024 08:47

id agree about high levels of neuro diversity in high level sport. We are a ND family and my DD has competed nationally in two sports plus regionally in a third. The high energy and hyper focus are key skills to succeed at sport at a competitive level. In our lift share for her current sport 3 out of 4 are ND the club is brilliant at managing a high number of ADHD and ASD kids with structure and discipline in a very supportive environment.

Supergirl1958 · 01/08/2024 08:49

@AndNobbyDancing me too. Did a bit of housework yesterday and I ache all over. 🙈
You definitely do have to be wired differently, but I also think you have to take into account the human element to some of them and they aren’t immune to feeling a bit sh1t about the comments they receive. There have been a couple of neg threads during this Olympics alone about Adam Peaty and his private life. All the stuff surrounding Simone biles during Tokyo with the ‘twisties’ and so on. They are human and this is all playing out for the public to see.

@WrittenOnWater that whole boat is full of interesting stories, very sad story with Lola and also the girl who fell off a horse and was paralysed! So glad they won that gold yesterday!

Action today could be interesting! Good luck Helen glover!

BestIsWest · 01/08/2024 09:22

Just watching the Women’s walk. I don’t really understand it but I thought they had to be in contact with the ground at all times but the clip they showed in slow motion the leader definitely had both feet off the ground.

Supergirl1958 · 01/08/2024 09:31

@BestIsWest i will never understand that discipline as long as I live 🙈

WheresSummer99 · 01/08/2024 09:54

Yeah I got bored watching the walking, they looked like me running 😂 but I respect it’s their sport and they are super fit but I do wonder if they are “failed” runners. How does someone choose to be a speed walker without breaking into a jog?

GrouchyKiwi · 01/08/2024 11:01

Fantastic rowing finals this morning.

So proud of the Kiwi women's pair. That was a superb race. The GB pair did so well for Bronze too.

Excellent Silver for GB in the Women's 4s - so close! Kiwis got Bronze as well. <3

Sulusu · 01/08/2024 11:47

J J Chalmers is doing a really good job as studio host for the BBC. Don't remember him being in that role before but he is great.

Arconialiving · 01/08/2024 12:08

I'm not a fan of JJ - much prefer Janette, Helen & Claire. Would love Rebecca Adlington & Jess Ennis-Hill to have more prominent studio roles & not just for their own sport.

Tense again this morning - elated for bronze for the women's double & men's 4 but gutted for the women's 4 as really thought they'd get the gold!

LightFull · 01/08/2024 17:11

The canoe slalom is very exciting and looks impossibly difficult

Looking forward to the Gymnastics final and Biles

I can't believe they let the camera men get so close to her face at the end of the team final the other day and for the men

The gymnasts restraint at not pushing them away is admirable. I notice they just turn their backs to them which is all they can do

LightFull · 01/08/2024 17:15

I really like Adlington and hope she gets to commentate with Tom Daley next time unless he competes

He's got another Olympics in him and the young DC are fully behind him so why not

Also looking forward to Murray being a commentator too soon

Beth Tweddle has been great

They're all great but Id like to see the newer ex Olympians, Wimbledon champions commentating too

I'd like Ennis to commentate for athletics I hope she is and the other girl I forget her name who competed after her

LightFull · 01/08/2024 17:17

There is a huge skill to commentating I know so they will always have a place alongside the rest

LightFull · 01/08/2024 17:17

Simone is such a legend

I have a girl crush on her I think

LightFull · 01/08/2024 17:20

Go Alice and Georgia- Mae

These are the best in world in an event that tests your body to its absolute maximum

I mean just competing in the final is bloody amazing

So proud of our girls all of out GB Team

Supergirl1958 · 01/08/2024 18:06

@LightFull problem is the commentary teams are well established. I can see Tom being a pundit hopefully though and Becky will continue her work with her work husband mark foster!
Im sure I read somewhere that SAM doesn’t want to commentate on tennis when he retired but I may be completely wrong 🙈

Havent been able to follow much action today but a solid three rowing medals. Always feel
a bit sad when the swimming is drawing to a close but then, it’s nearly time for athletics.

He’s doing a great job! He also popped up on the radio last evening with Tony livesey and was superb there.

Have to say it’s a great way of following the coverage habits it on the radio and TV simultaneously, although there’s always the risk with it being digital, of it being behind the live coverage.
