Starting a thread as it is only weeks away.

The Welsh cyclist who I saw win a medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and the raising of the Welsh flag will be there- Emma Finucaine, one of the fastest women in the world on a cycle.

@EasternStandard

I've never known an Olympics like it. Disgraceful. People saying they can't find stuff, they've missed a race they wanted to see. Where is this? Where is that? How do I find xxx? Never known anything like it, in all the Olympics I've ever watched. What the fuck is going on? Angry

Isn’t that just because the BBC don’t have the rights to much of it this time - Warner Brothers bought the European rights, so you need to watch on Discovery to see most of it?

Supergirl1958 · 30/07/2024 22:18

@Tryingtokeepgoing exactly that!

i actually haven’t missed a jot of the live action I’ve wanted to watch and I’ve watched all of the bbc coverage!

Supergirl1958 · 30/07/2024 22:35

Oblomov24 · 30/07/2024 21:42

Loved the 200m relay. Tom Dean! ❤️

Can't get over the disgusting French booing of Pidcock who I was watching the whole bike race.

They obviously felt it was the fault of pidcock in the little bang of wheels.
French are partisan, always have been! Always will be

You must have missed the 84 olympics then.

bear in mind no streaming or catch up, British tv was dependent on the US broadcast franchise.

you’d be halfway through an event, and as soon as it became clear the US competitor was not going to medal, they’d switch to something else.

omg I remember that!

And the tackiest opening ceremony ever.

burblish · 30/07/2024 23:29

@BellaAmorosa the Atlanta 1996 opening ceremony was supremely tacky, too (the crassness was the most memorable thing about it other than Muhammad Ali lighting the cauldron) - let's pray LA 2028 is better!

Today, I loved watching Evans/Murray, the men's 4x200m freestyle relay, and the sublime Simone Biles. We are away on holiday, so I'm not able to watch as much of the Olympics as I'd like, but am loving everything I do manage to see!

This is embarrassing. I now realise that I meant the 1996 Atlanta ceremony. Especially after Barcelona '92.

MouseofCommons · 31/07/2024 07:23

🙋‍♀️ I'm calling it for the LA opening ceremony. Taylor Swift, Are You Ready For It? Baby let the games begin....

Glad the women's triathlon has started. I just can't quite believe they didn't have a back up plan of consistently safe water for them to swim in. Apparently they neck pepto bismol and coca-cola after a dodgy swim to flush their stomachs out.

powershowerforanhour · 31/07/2024 07:30

Watching the triathletes get swept sideways by the current like 😮. Then all the steps to run up! I would have been on my knees at the bottom of them puking my guts up. Wet cobbles to bike on as well. Yikes.

powershowerforanhour · 31/07/2024 07:36

This looks like a pack of hounds after a fox. It must be pretty motivating to see the quarry ahead. I feel sorry for all the ones who have splatted on the bikes.

DuncinToffee · 31/07/2024 08:50

Just in time for the final of the Women Triathlon, I didn't realise it had actually gone ahead today Brew

DuncinToffee · 31/07/2024 08:56

Bronze for Potter, well done!

MouseofCommons · 31/07/2024 09:02

dunc the men are going next. I assume they want to squeeze everyone in before the rain and more pollution arrives.

I can’t help but feel slightly uneasy! It’s going to be on or around 30 degrees when they are completing their run! The bike race for the women was about 90 percent humidity! These are not good conditions during the height of the sun :(

DuncinToffee · 31/07/2024 10:15

I had to smile when they said that Yee doesn't like cold water

Sulusu · 31/07/2024 10:37

I'm loving the scenery on the triathlon. Makes me want to visit Paris again 😊

Do you think they know? Has anyone ever asked him or discussed it with him?

i am suspicious they just make stuff like this up. I mean who does like cold water 😂

Supergirl1958 · 31/07/2024 10:40

@Sulusu i did the bus tour as an 19 year old, 18 years ago! So pretty! Loved Paris! Haven’t been back since

It’s great, isn’t it?

I do wish the commentator didn’t feel the need to keep going on about ‘La Seine' though - I’m sure we’re all fine with just hearing it called 'the Seine', we know what he means!

DuncinToffee · 31/07/2024 11:29

This commentator 😂

Gold for Alex Yee!

EasternStandard · 31/07/2024 11:31

Omg that was incredible

Well done Alex Yee!

So happy for British diving bronze too

TokyoSushi · 31/07/2024 11:32

Oh Wow, Alex Yee, that was amazing!!

CrushingOnRubies · 31/07/2024 11:33

Well done Alex Yee! That was amazing and such an exciting finish

Izzynohopanda · 31/07/2024 11:33

What a finish for the triathlon! Did feel a bit sorry for Wilde who looked absolutely shattered at the end.
