In terms the weather forecast for the weekend looks like rain so potentially a mixed up race. For those going, sorry if you get wet, but you will still have fun.

So jealous of everyone going to Silverstone. I went a few years ago and loved it! It weather was awful, torrential rain all weekend but was still great fun!

Fab! It's currently wet for F3 practice. Wonder if the track will remain wet/damp for F1?

Delighted about Ollie Bearman - that race that he covered for Carlos was the making of him and really put him on the radar for other teams. Delighted that Haas picked him up.

When there are all of the excellent drivers from the lower categories who just cannot make their way into F1 because of all of the F1 drivers staying there for so long, should there be a career limit on the number of seasons (if you're not finishing in the top 10 drivers for example on a regular basis) and then you have to go back to F2 and F2 top 10 drivers move into F1? Something more fluid between the categories needs to happen, imo.

Problem on that though is that the position you finish in so much depends on the team you're in so you can be a great driver really outperforming the car and still not get in the top 10.

Of course in theory cream rises to the top and really talented drivers are likely to get picked up by the good teams, but not always. And then on the flip side you've got total seat warmers like Stroll who can get a decent points haul because his daddy owns a good team.

So I don't think it's workable in practice, but I agree it's a shame that some of the dead wood doesn't get cleared out more often in F1.

Hope you all survived the storm last night, it woke me up with the thunder and lightning and I thought of all the campers with big flag poles up.

I'm sure you'll all enjoy today anyway.

anothermnuser123 · 06/07/2024 10:56

Can I ask for those that have been Silverstone, where is best to book for? My Daughter really wants to go next year and I have no clue what is best. I also may need to take a wheelchair to make it even more difficult. We were looking at the enclosures, are they worth it?

I'm so excited at the idea of going but with the cost, want to make sure we pick good seats.

Brazilianadventure · 06/07/2024 13:47

@anothermnuser123 apart from cost it will be what type of view you want.

My preference is the main grandstand on the Hamilton Straight. My reasons are you get to watch all the goings on in the pits (binoculars help), you get to see the race starts and finishes, the drivers loading on the truck/cars for the drivers parade. It is also covered so most seats get shade on hot days and potentially are drier on rainy days. The Mahiki T1 Enclosure grandstand is here with the hospitality not that far away.

However, if you want to see race cars at their best the grandstands that give views of say the run from Copse, through Maggotts and Beckets and down the Hangar Straight maybe better. Club Silverstone is here.

This link https://www.silverstone.co.uk/sites/default/files/pdf/F1%20Master%20Map%202023.pdf is a map showing the key entertainment areas, grandstands and paths. From memory the paths are wheelchair accessible. One of the lucky posters on this thread who go this weekend maybe able to post the really detailed map in the programme.

Silverstone also has an accessibility guide https://www.silverstone.co.uk/events/formula-1-british-grand-prix/tickets/access

A key one is to be able to see a big screen and to take binoculars so you can read the timings. Think about the weather and how far you will have to walk (a long way).

Other posters will have a different view as it is quite personal where you like to sit.

So FP3 top 3 was George, Lewis and Lando. If that is the result tomorrow the atmosphere will be amazing.

Roll on qually - will it be wet? BBC says 71% chance at 3pm.

This is awesome thank you. Gives lots of info and gives us plenty to think about.

Oh yes! I'll take that result! 😁

Yes three brits in the top 3 George Lewis and Lando fantastic. 🇬🇧 🇬🇧🇬🇧

Whooooo hoooooo 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧bring on tomorrow !!!!

goingdownfighting · 06/07/2024 16:27

Yay! Looking forward to watching tomorrow!

Brazilianadventure · 06/07/2024 16:31

As long as one of them wins it will be a good result.

OP posts:
imworkinglatecosimasinger · 06/07/2024 16:37

I’m a longstanding die hard Lewis fan but I’d also like Lando to win .. tough call !

BearFacedCheek · 06/07/2024 16:37

I missed the last few GPs for various reasons, so was delightsed to be able to watch quali today and see that result! Can’t wait for tomorrow!

Brazilianadventure · 06/07/2024 16:45

I do wonder if RB at the summer break may switch Perez out for either DR or Yuki. Liam can take the VCarb.

In terms of the constructors championship RB need a second car scoring points. I’ve said previously McLaren, Ferrari and Merc have driver pairings that are much closer and could close down the gap to RB.

However, in the Drivers Championship not having a rear gunner could impact Max. Max should hold on but it could be made harder.

IdisagreeMrHochhauser · 06/07/2024 18:00

Silverstone have done very well. Currently watching the England match on the main stage big screens. Let's hope it doesn't go to extra time though as the Mercedes drivers are due on stage immediately after the final whistle at 90 minutes 🤦🏻

Sulusu · 06/07/2024 18:59

All three lads in the top three is fantastic! So happy for George Russell to get that pole at Silverstone, it must feel so special after a rough couple years with Mercedes.

Looking forward to tomorrow, but I'm a wee bit nervous as my mobility isn't great. Will report back when I get home how it went.

I do have a covered grandstand seat which I'm grateful for as the forecast for tomorrow isn't great. The rain should make for an interesting race though!

witte · 06/07/2024 20:43

I know Perez has a contract but I think he's toast. Did anyone else see the interview with Christian Horny before qualies? Then just the slow head shake when he went off track.

Brazilianadventure · 06/07/2024 21:28

Just watching the C4 coverage of qually and they have a lovely segment on this years trophies. They are made by Alastair Gibson out of recycled F1 car parts.

Alastair previously made a gift for Jenson Button when he left F1 from the C4 team using his Braun car colours.

OP posts:
billysboy · 07/07/2024 09:56

Well done George , Lou Lou and Lando
Perez is skating on thin ice at the moment , I think it may be a wet race

imworkinglatecosimasinger · 07/07/2024 12:20

Horner hinted that they had considered Perez past performance in his contract which said to me they can drop him easily.

Looking forward to seeing the awesome Hannah Waddingham sing the National Anthem! yes I’m a huge Ted Lasso fan 😃

Rowgtfc72 · 07/07/2024 14:49

Ah! Was just about to Google the National Anthem singer.

imworkinglatecosimasinger · 07/07/2024 14:59

Big improvement on Damian Lewis 😂

so excited for this race !
