fantastic win for Lewis, wow!!! Gutted for George and Lando - how exciting were those last few laps with Max closing in I felt quite ill!!!

Exhaustedpenguin · 07/07/2024 21:29

What a race! Very jealous of all those watching live - the excitement levels must have been through the roof!

Wakemeuuuup · 07/07/2024 22:56

Just watched race now. I couldn't be happier that that Lewis. I'm delighted for him. Can't believe how emotional he was

IdisagreeMrHochhauser · 07/07/2024 23:03

Was the most engrossing race I've ever witnessed. I couldn't believe how quickly it all happened. Felt like it was over in about half an hour.

witte · 08/07/2024 06:42

That was just brilliant.

I agree! One to remember!

TheBizzies · 08/07/2024 09:54

Yes @Rowgtfc72 he made me laugh in the after race room (what's it called!?) and Lewis says "I thought you had a set of mediums?" Lando: err yeah <uncomfortable silence> 😂

we all thought that set would win him the race but wasn't it his call to use them
or not?

Love Sir Lewis and I cried - I've not been able to watch the 2021 race again but like Lewis all my emotions from that day came out!

im all emotional again now. Going to watch Teds Notebook now which I missed yesterday

I'm exhausted today, but had a great time at the race.

I struggled quite a lot physically but that's down to my poor mobility. Also the weather didn't help. There was a huge downpour around 12 that we got caught in, and even with a golf umbrella and rain jacket I got soaked as the rain went sideways for a while. It was thankfully a covered grandstand I was in, but the wind was freezing! I felt very sorry for the people wearing shorts!

I was sat at Brooklands with a fab view of the corner and down the Wellington straight. We saw a lot of overtakes there in all the races. Crowd was a mix of fans and everyone got on well.

There is tons to do in places like the fan zone, and loads of places to eat and drink.

Leaving was tricky though, it took two hours for us to get out of the car parks.

I think if I went again I would be tempted to go for Saturday and Sunday, and to try get hospitality tickets if I could ever afford them.

We are looking at going next year and trying to decide where to book and whether to take my wheelchair as my mobility is poor. Any recommendations? Would you still choose to go again?

I imagine it was a pretty awesome race to watch in person

I booked tickets late, so couldn't get blue badge parking. I think that's a big one, as it's close to the main entrance, and the place that hires out wheelchairs and mobility scooters is based there. I walk with a stick and found some places a bit tricky navigating as it was very wet and there is really rough gravel in some places that I think would be difficult in a chair.

There are a couple of Facebook groups for Silverstone that seem to have lots of good advice might be good place to ask there where the best place is to sit access wise.

Next time I would book really early to ensure I had blue badge parking near the main entrance and then hire a scooter. It would help me loads.

Ok will definitely get that parking booked. Do you think a scooter is better than a wheelchair then? Will look at the Facebook groups too.

Merrow · 08/07/2024 10:56

Poor Lando! What a crazy decision not to use the mediums though

Toooldtoworry · 08/07/2024 11:03

I am so pleased for Lewis and so gutted for Lando at the same time. I definitely felt the raw emotion from Lewis at the end.

milski · 08/07/2024 11:08

What a race!! I bet it was amazing being there at the track. So happy for Lewis. After Abu Dhabi, he's had such a tough time. Really sad that Toto only offered him a 1+1 contract after everything Lewis has done at that team. Lovely scenes of him hugging his Mum and Dad.
I remember after Bharain posting about how gutted I was that it would be another season of Red Bull domination. My, how the tables have turned on that one!
Loved how Max said in the cool down room, "been a while" and Lewis called him a ball hogger Grin.

milski · 08/07/2024 11:09

Not sure why it's posted a bottle emoji. Was meant to be a laughing face!!

Hazeby · 08/07/2024 11:11

Still coming down from yesterday. The atmosphere was incredible, what a privilege it was to be there. Got a bit wet at the beginning but who cares!!

InMySpareTime · 08/07/2024 11:14

@milski (gin) Gin and (grin) Grin are very similar

anothermnuser123 · 08/07/2024 11:14

It did feel like it was mclarens to lose yesterday and I think they could have with better strategy but also so happy for Lewis win, he deserved that so much.

Not a max fan but was impressed by his drive too.

Brazilianadventure · 08/07/2024 11:15

@Sulusu I have limited mobility and it’s why I no longer go.

The guide I posted earlier really does have a lot of help. I don’t yet have a blue badge so the parking would be difficult for me.

So glad you got to see a lot of action.

OP posts:
Defender90 · 08/07/2024 11:20

It was the best F1 race I have seen in a very long time.

The commentators kept pronouncing it SilverSTONE, when it has always been SilverSTON previously, kept making my eyebrow twitch, it was like they were really emphasizing the change in pronunciation.

Toooldtoworry · 08/07/2024 11:45

As a spectator it is not my favourite track tbh, as in live. I love it on the TV.

The stun is so bloody annoying.

It's stone. I don't know anyone who lives here who says stun.

Then I stand corrected, I'm sorry.

Maybe the locals warned DC and his crew on the way in this weekend.

We were down last year for the BTCC and it is a lovely part of the world.

Rowgtfc72 · 08/07/2024 15:40

Apparently Danika Patrick has definitely gone this time!

SilverstoneLocal · 08/07/2024 16:05

I'm sure someone else will be along soon to correct me, it seems pretty regional Grin

I saw an article with Jensen Button saying how bad Danica is, and that she needs to learn about F1 before commenting. It was pretty scathing. She replied and said in her opinion it's very unprofessional to have a relationship with a colleague and try and hide it. Naming him and Bernie.

It's a bit Shock she has definitely left Sky commentating though
