Shaw + Miedema+Kemp+Kelly+Fowler is pretty scary.

I'm thinking the Citizens should have gone all-out for Dominique Janssen to replace Morgan. Top defender and so versatile. She plays anywhere along the back line AND as DM. Great technique. 29 years old. Experience of English football and speaks English perfectly. Serial winner. Euros winner with the Netherlands. Perfect for a side like City especially since they seem to like having a relatively small squad. Still, we don't know what the player's preference or the club's thinking was. Anyway, Man U are very lucky to have her.

Apparently - according to Viv Miedema herself - it was a mutual decision.

I'm trying to move to the acceptance stage. Still disappointed, though - while Miedema was with us, I held the hope that at some stage under Eidevall we would revert to what I think of as Arsenal style football. That we were just going through a necessary stage of development. But the parting of the ways, saying she didn't suit his style, killed that hope.
However, signing Mariona Caldentey is a great move. And Russo is showing signs of turning into the world class striker that she was touted as but wasn't yet. But we have to win the WSL or the Champions League next year or JE is toast.

Rumours about Walsh and van Domselaar abound. I would be delighted with both but we could lose one of our young midfielders if we sign Walsh.

@BellaAmorosa do you know if Blackstenius (probably appalling spelling) is injured? Wondered why she didn't play yesterday-although slightly relieved I want her back for the beginning of the season!

Yes, she was injured and in rehab. There are some lovely photos on arsenal.com of Stina, Kim Little and Lotte Wubben-Moy back in training, so barring a calamity we should see all three in the first match day squad in September. And maybe for the pre season US tour as well.

I think the implication is that the backroom staff acted without her knowledge and approval. So I assume she is taking the punishment of missing the opener against the injured team - New Zealand - since she is their boss and ultimately responsible for the actions of her staff. But she isn't being sacked/resigning because she didn't instigate or know about it. That's just my reading between the lines in the article.
