Just checking in.

Not sure which thread to use for this, but about Rubiales Shock

https://twitter.com/SemraHunter/status/1695015083636666518?s=20

The RFEF assembly is live

Rubiales
-Says the kiss was more a peck than a kiss "un pico más que un beso". He says there's not position of dominance

·He doubles down and calls it a MUTUTAL, CONSENTUAL, spontaneous kiss

·He says that "false feminism is a scourge for society"

-He says he's being socially assassinated, insists he did nothing wrong, and blames false feminism

·He asks what real victims of sexual abuse would say about him or think about him

·In trying to defend his actions, he's repeatedly attacking "false feminism"

He is NOT resigning

Rubiales speech - "did you really think I was going to resign over a peck" - is one of the most surreal moments in the history of football. Everything about this is quite mad and has brought immense shame upon Spanish football.

It is not hyperbole to say that this Rubiales speech - both in its tone and content - is more damaging than anything that has gone before it this week. It is deeply bizarre and outright dangerous. A dark day for Spanish football, applauded by both national team managers.

OP posts:
BellaAmorosa · 25/08/2023 13:43

Yeah. Your problem, Rubiales, is that this happened on live TV, so nobody has to take your word for what happened.

I didn't even see the kiss the first time round. I saw this bald headed guy pulling the players in for an unnecessarily intimate embrace, the neck-kissing, etc and thought yuck, creep. Grabbing Hermoso was just an escalation.

I don't kiss my friends on the lips! And as for it being consensual...mate, you grabbed her head and forced it on her.

He just doesn't respect women. And I doubt if he's the only one in the Spanish football establishment.

Go on, Jenni Hermoso! Hope she gets justice and a proper apology.

Version12 · 25/08/2023 14:18

Wow, some crazy stuff going down today in Spain. I wonder how long Rubiales will last.

MustTryHarderAndHarder · 25/08/2023 15:12

Yes, I was surprised when they said on the news last night that he was expected to resign tomorrow.

He will not want to give up his €700k salary plus all the bribes he gets for being head of their FA.

BellaAmorosa · 25/08/2023 16:30

Not to mention the other unofficial perks.

And implicit in resigning would be an admission of wrongdoing.

DuncinToffee · 25/08/2023 17:05

Latest via Semra Hunter

Víctor Francos, president of the CSD (Consejero Superior de Deporte):

•”The path of the Government with the president of the RFEF has ended today.”

•”We will suspend Mr. Rubiales from his duties.”

Reports saying that Luis Rubiales can be banned by government AS OF TONIGHT.

OP posts:
BellaAmorosa · 25/08/2023 18:16

Good news! I hope they don't just use the suspension as a temporary "naughty step".
There needs to be an actual inquiry into how the women's game is run in Spain, it seems to me.

DuncinToffee · 25/08/2023 18:26

There needs to be an actual inquiry into how the women's game is run in Spain, it seems to me.

Indeed, the signs were all there with players refusing to play but it only escalated because this was done in front of the cameras.

DuncinToffee · 25/08/2023 19:30

That picture is so disturbing, the way he grabs her head and now claiming Hermoso consented.

OP posts:
DuncinToffee · 25/08/2023 19:39

translated statement

"After the perplexity of the speech delivered by the president of the RFEF, Mr. Rubiales, the players of the senior team, recent world champions, in support of Jennifer Hermoso, want to express their firm condemnation of behaviours that have violated the dignity of women."

“I want to clarify that, as seen in the images, at no time did I consent to the kiss that he gave me and, of course, in no case did I lift the president. I do not tolerate my word being questioned and much less that they invent words I never said." - Jenni Hermoso

"We want to end this statement by asking for real changes, both sporting and structural, that help the national team to continue growing, in order to continue this great success to later generations."

"It fills us with sadness that such an unacceptable event is managing to tarnish the greatest sporting success of Spanish women's football."

"After everything that happened during the World Cup award ceremony, we want to state that every player that has signed this statement will not go back to the national team under the current leaders"

MattDamon posted this on another thread.

There are years of abuse and general incompetence behind this. 15 players wrote a letter asking for better conditions last year and all but 3 of them have basically been blacklisted by the National Team. The fact that they still managed to win the WC is incredible and very much in spite of their management, not because of them.

The coach (who is best mates with the 'kisser') is a nepo hire. His dad is high up at the federation. Generally considering incompetent and unskilled for the role. He made the young women keep their hotel doors open until 11 PM every night so he could 'check' on them. He did random checks on their bags and shopping (wtf was he looking for??) whenever he wanted.

It's about power to these sick fuckers. Several previous team captains were called up to the WC but they weren't allowed to wear the captain's arm band as 'punishment' for supporting the 15 players mentioned above. When the keeper was given the band she asked if she could give it to one of former captains out of respect. The coach went ballistic and she was banned from the remaining games.

The mental and emotional torture these women have been under has been horrific. Hoping against hope that change is finally coming

DuncinToffee · 26/08/2023 10:08

I just read that MattDamon post on the thread in chat about the kiss.

This is shocking, and almost makes me glad that Rubiales has done this so publicly and that has brought the whole thing into the World's spotlight. I, for one, knew nothing about this previously.
I hope there is enough pressure now for significant changes to the whole organisation to be made.

What a shame for all the players though - at a time they should be on an absolute high after winning the World Cup, they are just having to fight another battle.

I didn't know I could watch the matches like this.
I've just downloaded it.

Make the most of the free FAplayer while you can, @UsingChangeofName! In a couple of years, the service will either have disappeared or cost money to use.
The little videos they feature are actually quite entertaining. I've warmed to a lot of players from other clubs because they've made me laugh on FAplayer.
