I wonder if the sexism actually motivates them in some perverse way?

If they are treated badly then all players will really bond against a common enemy which is what you need in a team sport.

I remember when I had a job where we all hated our boss. We all got on so well together.

I think that's a very good point! Except when the bosses try to divide and rule by playing favourites or something like that. Then it's not so easy to stick together.

But definitely the sexism in the game and in society generally makes them super-tough. That's what I noticed about a clutch of Spanish players we had about 10 years ago (including Vicky Losada who is now at Brighton) - and our current Spaniard, Laia Codina. Although I didn't make that connection then.

I'm at Old Trafford. We're not going to roll over because we don't want City to win the league. We may well get beaten because our form is majorly inconsistent and Chelsea have usually got the measure of us but it won't be because we aren't trying.

Yes, I didn't think that you would do a Spurs.

DuncinToffee · 18/05/2024 15:05

All over and Chelsea are the WSL 23/24 Champions

Good performance from the Toffees and nice to see that Vivianne Miedema scored.

As expected. After we beat Man City at home, that was always going to happen. Chelsea's mentality is excellent and they were never going to let the chance slip again. Congratulations to Chelsea - well deserved for a consistent season despite battling on four fronts until quite late on. Commiserations to Man City - a win, but it wasn't enough.

Horrible to lose so heavily at Old Trafford, but at least Man U Women are finishing their season with silverware - the FA Cup, no less. The three Cups have gone to different clubs. This is healthy.

Well done to Everton (might have a peek on FA player later to see how Kuhl did). I feel for Bristol City, but they were always a bit out of their depth. I don't think it would take an awful lot to come back up again, though. They play lovely football and have a brave manager.

Spurs, good win against West Ham.

Lovely clean sheet for Arsenal today, with a goal and an assist from Miedema. Brace from Russo was well taken and we had two other scorers - I love it when we spread the goals around the team. Bad luck to Brighton.

Well, she certainly showed us what we will be missing.

Let's hope Jonas knows what he is doing.

Yes, I watched most of the match and Spain were amazing.

We are good, but Spain are head and shoulders above us.

Whatever they are doing works.

BellaAmorosa · 18/05/2024 21:05

We don't need a whip-round - money wasn't the issue. The club decided not to offer her a new contract because...reasons.

Let's hope Jonas knows what he is doing.
I'm not at all convinced that he does.

They look like adult professionals. It's not just the technique it's the decision-making which is so mature. Frightening.

Yes, it was girls vs women. Truly frightening.

MustTryHarderAndHarder · 21/05/2024 12:41

Really pleased that Stina Blackstinius has signed a new contract.

BellaAmorosa · 21/05/2024 13:04

Fantastic news, yes.

MrsMitford3 · 21/05/2024 13:26

My fav!! Yes Stina!!!!

MrsMitford3 · 21/05/2024 13:27

Although I would have happily sacked Jonas and kept Viv!!

BellaAmorosa · 21/05/2024 15:05

You and me both!

MustTryHarderAndHarder · 24/05/2024 10:52

Just about to watch the Arsenal match in Aus.

MustTryHarderAndHarder · 24/05/2024 11:08

I wonder why Agmeyang didn't travel with them.

MustTryHarderAndHarder · 24/05/2024 11:16

It looks like they don't know how to pump up footballs in Aus. They are on their 3rd ball.

MustTryHarderAndHarder · 24/05/2024 11:46

SPOILER

What an assist from Lia. She and Reid have been playing so well.

BellaAmorosa · 24/05/2024 12:04

The kids have been great. The players do look tired, though. That's the price you pay for the PR side of these out-of-season friendlies.
The under-pumped balls debacle was a bit embarrassing! And the pitch is poor, which is a great shame. I'm enjoying it anyway.

Michelle (and all the other players who have had significant injuries this season) is being kept at home for that reason.
