I am devastated about Viv leaving. Even though my head says Eidevall wasn't getting the best out of her, and she's just not his type of player; that her post-ACL injuries will probably be a long term issue. But I guess it was her decision - she will want to play.

DuncinToffee · 13/05/2024 14:38

She is such a fantastic player, one of my favourites. It used to drive me crazy how the tv presenters kept pronouncing her surname wrong

OP posts:
BellaAmorosa · 13/05/2024 14:48

She's the best I've ever seen.

MrsMitford3 · 13/05/2024 15:29

She really pushed the bar sky high on the women's game.
Her injury was such a shame.

A joy to watch.

I predict she goes to America.
But not sure how that would work with Beth.
they came across so well in the documentary.

So maybe not right away but can't really see her in another team here.
*wishful thinking?

BellaAmorosa · 13/05/2024 15:40

I hope she doesn't join another WSL team - that would kill me. Some are mentioning Man City as a destination but I don't see how that would work - they are totally geared towards feeding the "Beast" that is Bunny Shaw. That isn't Miedema's game at all. And what would happen to Mary Fowler - this has been her breakout season.

MustTryHarderAndHarder · 13/05/2024 15:50

DuncinToffee · 13/05/2024 12:12

Vivian Miedema will be leaving Arsenal.

Yes, have just seen that. They are saying that City are interested.

Oxonc3 · 13/05/2024 19:46

They seemed v happy so another WSL team more likely than US? Nit sure how long Beth Mead has on her contract?

BellaAmorosa · 14/05/2024 21:59

I'm at the "fingers in my ears, lalala, it's not happening" stage, Oxonc3, so I have no comment to make!

MustTryHarderAndHarder · 17/05/2024 09:34

What time are the matches going to be if the World Cup is in Brazil. Brazil are 4 hours behind, so I assume they are going to start very late?

DuncinToffee · 17/05/2024 09:42

Iirc, in 2014 the matches were mostly evening time, 5pm onwards or something?

Wasn't it that tournament when drinks breaks were introduced?

I don't think you had the wrong thread @IMustDoMoreExercise

It has just been announced that the Womens World Cup will be in Brazil in 2027

Well, if the matches are going to be at 1pm Brazil time then it will be so hot.

They don't care about the players.

It will make a change. I do hope they live up to expectations - boosting women's football in S America. About kick-off times - my guess is 9pm, 11:30pm, 2am BST. That sort of thing.

BellaAmorosa · 18/05/2024 05:54

It's the Women's U17 Euros Final today at 4pm. England take on Spain. The third place play-off is at 12 noon. Both matches should be on the BBC Sport website. The final definitely is:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/ckv7g02ww5vo
It clashes with the final day matches but I think I will wait until it finishes and then rewatch on BBC iPlayer/BBC Sport.
Some very promising players on both teams.

Thanks@BellaAmorosa

Yes, looking forward to it.

We've got some really good players, but Spain are producing some really good women players in spite of their sexism problems.

DuncinToffee · 18/05/2024 10:51

Thanks Bella, I haven't watched any of the u17 matches as I haven't had the time, shame about the timing today.

Any predictions for today, who will lift the trophy?

I hope it will be Man City, quite a few Everton connections there

OP posts:
MustTryHarderAndHarder · 18/05/2024 11:12

Yes, I think I want City to win even though Chelsea are a London team.

Man U will be in a difficult position because if they win or draw then Man City will probably win the league.

It's ironic, isn't it? Insanely high technical levels and football nous even at 14 or 15, which some of their players are.

BellaAmorosa · 18/05/2024 11:47

I can't support either City or Chelsea for the title, I'm afraid - I'm a terrible example of football tribalism.
I will mostly be crying about Miedema's departure. The speculation is now that she was not offered a new contract because she is now banjaxed because of her knee, and will never be the player she was. So either way, I'm howling. 🥹

I wonder if the sexism actually motivates them in some perverse way?

If they are treated badly then all players will really bond against a common enemy which is what you need in a team sport.

I remember when I had a job where we all hated our boss. We all got on so well together.

BellaAmorosa · 18/05/2024 11:57

I don't think Man U are going to be held back by the idea that City would win the title if they win v Chelsea. I think a bigger factor will be whether they have got over the excitement of winning their first trophy last week. Plus there is absolutely nothing riding on this game for them except pride. It's all about their focus. Chelsea will be 100% there.
Aston Villa are quite similar to City in style and in such cases the better team usually hammers the other. City will be nervous, though - so that could hamper them.

And Bunny Shaw got Player of the Season. Richly deserved, congratulations to her and I hope it cheers her up while she's re-habbing.

I am not bothered much about the title either, it's more if I had to make a choice Wink

Will send you a virtual box of tissues Bella

I will happily welcome Viv at Everton, one can dream Grin
