Game of 2 halves. We looked so good the first half and then never showed up in the second..

It's tough being an Everton supporter at the moment.

That was so tense, but I am so, so happy that we won. We really needed that, as you say. A much, much better performance. I think that is the first time this season when we have put in two good halves in the same game!

I was less happy to see:
Emma Hayes showing once again that she is a terrible loser.
Lauren James doing another spiteful stamp.

We are still the only British team to have achieved the quadruple - and we did it as amateurs against teams of semi- and full professionals.

Can you imagine what would have happened if he had pushed her rather than the other way round?

Her behaviour was totally unacceptable.

Well, quite! Or if he'd said she was being "shrill".

Annoyingly, some of the media are trying to construct an "Eidevall the bully" narrative, using Hayes' comments and Gareth Taylor's claim earlier this season that JE bullied a female match official. The fact that he didn't bully anyone in either case is apparently an irrelevant detail.

BellaAmorosa · 31/03/2024 21:38

I'm not Eidevall's biggest fan, but I do respect him. I gather he is a "Marmite" sort of person. But I'm also wondering if the dislike that some head coaches have for him is a sort of culture clash - I'm thinking Marc Skinner, Emma Hayes (obv) and Gareth Taylor. Or is it just the fact that they are the top clubs and they dislike a rival head coach?

MrsMitford3 · 31/03/2024 22:03

I am shocked at Emma Hayes behaviour.
Imagine if he had shoved her!

She was the one who insisted on the one ball game and then didn't like it when she wanted a quick throw in.

I also feel like her bad behaviour/lack of discipline/sportsmanship as a manager is reflected in the lack of control in some of her players.

And for her to try and justify it by saying he showed "male aggression" is so frustrating as she tries to deflect her own shitty behaviour.

Will be interesting to see how America takes to her...

domineastronomy · 01/04/2024 09:55

Great win for Arsenal but Emma Hayes was an embarrassment.
The joy of women's football has been the absence of bad sportsmanship despite the high intensity of matches.
Really disappointing.

Oxonc3 · 01/04/2024 10:45

Can’t find any footage of the ‘one ball’ incident itself, only the manager interaction afterwards. What did he do re the ball?
Anyone going to Wembley on Friday for the Sweden match?

BellaAmorosa · 01/04/2024 11:08

The ball incident:

Before the match, Arsenal indicated we wanted to play the multiple-ball system Chelsea wanted the single-ball system, which meant that they got their way.
In extra time, with Chelsea having gone behind, Erin Cuthbert wanted a fresh ball for a quick throw-in. Jonas said something to her along the lines of "Now you want to play multi-ball because it suits you? Tough." He also shouted/said something to the referee/linesperson about it. Emma Hayes took exception to the fact that he'd talked to her player (🙄) and said something like, "Don't bully my player/don't talk to my player." Jonas was given a yellow card for the interaction with the referee/linesperson.

domineastronomy · 01/04/2024 12:41

I don't understand why you would pick a one ball game. Unless you are expecting to be in the lead and want to run the clock down maybe?

domineastronomy · 01/04/2024 12:44

Or worried about fitness?

BellaAmorosa · 01/04/2024 13:01

Possibly either of those reasons, but also I suspect because it was the opposite of what Arsenal wanted. Emma Hayes tells her players that they have to try to win everything on the pitch - all the decisions as well as all the physical battles. She might have seen this as "winning" the ball system?

domineastronomy · 01/04/2024 13:21

Ok yes. But why would EH get her way?
There should be a coin toss surely?

The one-ball system is the default if the managers can't agree.

domineastronomy · 01/04/2024 14:02

Ok thanks- saves money on ball boys/girls I guess!

BellaAmorosa · 01/04/2024 20:04

This is Suzy Wrack's take, which contains very significant new information to me - Jonas shouted at the ref to not allow the additional ball to be used, Erin Cuthbert took the throw-in and then shouted at him before going back onto the pitch. So even worse from Emma Hayes, IMO. She knew that he had not shouted at Erin before she accused him of male aggression in two interviews. I hadn't realised about the order of events because I only saw still photos, not video clips. The argy-bargy about the ball is understandable from both Cuthbert and Eidevall, but Emma Hayes' calculated attempt to smear JE is not. Despicable.

WSL and League Cup final: talking points from the weekend’s action

Emma Hayes goes too far, Bunny Shaw hits a goal-of-the-season contender and Leicester end a difficult week well

domineastronomy · 01/04/2024 22:51

The comment ratio was interesting!
Very little support for EH.

MustTryHarderAndHarder · 02/04/2024 10:36

Well, EH's behaviour and attitude explains the way Lauren James behaves on the pitch. EH probably encourages her disgusting behaviour.

At least LJ got a yellow card this time. Hopefully the refs now realise what she is like but I am not holding my breath.

I will keep an eye out for the start of the sexual assault trial, though.
