Haven't found a thread for Olympic sports discussions so I'm starting one. This thread is only for discussions of the actual sporting events as they happen over the next few weeks, not the unfairness of IOC's rules/philosophy (e.g. allowing a male athlete to declare himself a woman and compete in the women's category...which is immoral, unscientific, and wholly unjust, but that topic already has multiple separate threads).

Although this will be an Olympics like no other, I'm excited for the opening ceremony tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing gymnastics and swimming especially!

I thought Hughes came across badly in that interview but then the questioning was pretty harsh - but then, he was absolutely miles ahead in that false start it was ridiculous!

Loved the high jump result, but missed some of it - what did the official say to them, was there an opportunity for them to go again for just one of them to try and win?

Has all the gymnastics finished now, all the individual stuff?

In the high jump they can have a jump off or share , their decision .

The official was explaining that they could continue with the jumping and then Barshim asked if they could have two golds, official said yes, continued his explanation but Barshim and Tamberi just started celebrating.

I thought I heard the official say "yes its possible" so hopefully he actually meant yes and not possibly!

I know, it seemed like the official was still carrying on talking when they started celebrating, like he had something else to explain!

I thought it must happen fairly regularly in high jump, with joint wins, so everyone would be completely au fair with the rules of that sort of situation anyway, no explanations needed iyswim?

That bit with the high jump had me in tears! So lovely!

I think that high jump was the best Olympic celebration I've ever seen. They were so happy! 😁

Thanks - so have things been rescheduled then? I thought I had heard that the floor final was on Sunday and knew one of the Gadirova twins was in it, which was why I was wondering if it had all finished and I had missed it?

Yeah looks like a few bits have been moved around. I wonder if it had anything to do with a lot of the sailing events being moved due to weather.

If you download the app you can either look at full schedule for each day or the schedule just for events that we have an athlete in :) I have found it quite handy!

When is the medal ceremony for the men's high jump and men's 100m? Is it already done it is it tomorrow?

I would think the medal ceremonies for those events will be tomorrow as the shot put for women was yesterday and they got the medals today .

Agree with this, I wanted her to stop, it was very uncomfortable and the “cramp in my calf” was a bit too much “dog ate my homework”. Embarrassing all round and what was the point? It was almost shaming him for the mistake and for sure he’s going to get caned on SM

I would really urge those who have enjoyed the gymnastics to not miss the Mens Individual High Bar final on Tuesday, in my opinion it is the most thrilling of all the gymnastics events.

I said to DH I wonder if they have a ckntra t to say they have to do the BBC interviews because I would be surprised he actually wanted to talk about it at that point. Yes the cramp in his calf really wasn't an excuse they can put their hand up at anytime before the gun.

Discovery + seems to have most sports and highlights ,I signed up just for the games and will cancel straight after so £6.99 it’s well worth it for me . I also found a crime documentary that I’d seen advertised and watched that .
