Haven't found a thread for Olympic sports discussions so I'm starting one. This thread is only for discussions of the actual sporting events as they happen over the next few weeks, not the unfairness of IOC's rules/philosophy (e.g. allowing a male athlete to declare himself a woman and compete in the women's category...which is immoral, unscientific, and wholly unjust, but that topic already has multiple separate threads).

Although this will be an Olympics like no other, I'm excited for the opening ceremony tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing gymnastics and swimming especially!

Mind you I just switched to BBC and saw DAS being interviewed and get upset about the 200m. Not so entertaining- poor women in tears - how deverstating for her.

No, zooming in on an athlete who has turned away from the camera to compose themselves is not doing their job.

Heartbreaking for DAS. The camera person zooming in on her when she asked them to watch the start go while she cried made me really cross. She just wanted a moment to compose herself. So pleased for Nieta though - she's been running the best times of her life.

I hope Daryl Neita gets some recognition. I'm really disappointed for DAS but that news obscured the fact that we did get an athlete into the final.

Apologies anyway, front page of this thread clearly says it's only for the sport, something which we will probably have to remind people in the next few days.

She’s managing to have a very long conversation with Greg Rutherford in a completely composed manner , very professional. I like her , and these things happen but if you know you are injured why not pull out and let someone who isn’t injured have an opportunity, it’s not like this is the last games she will have the chance to come to .
