Haven't found a thread for Olympic sports discussions so I'm starting one. This thread is only for discussions of the actual sporting events as they happen over the next few weeks, not the unfairness of IOC's rules/philosophy (e.g. allowing a male athlete to declare himself a woman and compete in the women's category...which is immoral, unscientific, and wholly unjust, but that topic already has multiple separate threads).

Although this will be an Olympics like no other, I'm excited for the opening ceremony tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing gymnastics and swimming especially!

Anyone up? I'm excited to see Helen Glover at 1.30am - assume BBC will show it. Not feeling the table tennis right now!

Re talking to the horses , during the test you are not allowed to be heard talking to the horse so although you may talk to it at home if you do so in competition it needs to be very quiet .

And much harder to get away with at this level where there are judges all around the arena. At the lower level you might get away with muttering the odd word or two when your back is to the judge.

I'm on the windsurfing, it looks exhausting.

There needs to be a conversation about coverage in France as its been disappointing. The dreadful magazine format of Olympic Breakfast, people want to watch because they like sport, not to hear a tone deaf presenter sing, I've given up with then completely.

Yes! Hazel always looks so polished. I currently look like I’ve slept in a bin.

I’m enjoying the women’s rugby sevens at the moment. Can’t wait for the gymnastics later.

The info on BBC1 states 'plus women's all-around gymnastics final'. My guess is that it will start on BBC1, but expecting flick to BBC2 and red-button over the course of the final. I think even if it doesn't start on BBC there will be a voiceover saying where to find it.
