trying to book - tickets have got through to the requesting stage but time waiting varies between 7 mins then goes back to at least 15 ...I am wasting my energies are there any likelihoods of getting tickets????

The whole website is a pile of croc. I have wasted all weekend on it... Awoke at 5am on sat and spent all day trying to get tickets - kept joining the queue to be told that there's no tickets, but when you get back to the homepage, those tickets are still there - sometimes the tickets are still there hours after you've tried buying them.

It has been really badly designed to: It doesn't actually tell you what rpice tickets are available, so you have to lose time by clicking in to every session (when half of them don't actually exist and your ability to filter is limited - I have to search for either artistic or rhythmic tickets but can't search for both. Of course, I only stand the chance of getting one set...

So after three days solid on this sodding website, I've got nothing. Not a happy bunny!

LadyLetch · 05/08/2012 23:15

And... Why is it that my husband is searching with the same parameters as me, but his account says that there are 14 tickets available, whereas mine only says that there are 10 available? Why can he search for tickets that I can't? (Although thye have never actually resulted in any tickets - which results in a dichotomy - why do they display tickets that are not actually there, or why do they make tickets only available to some??) We have both been clicking 'search events' on our respective accounts all day !

YouBrokeMySmoulder · 05/08/2012 23:17

I think they are using the cookies a lot. Certainly I have been through for lots of tickets and then my dh says no, we can't afford it and I grumpily log out again.

caramelwaffle · 05/08/2012 23:23

When you are searching for a lot of different types of tickets make sure you clear your cache after each failure to secure tickets:

clear your cache
clear your cookies
clear your "requested tickets" from your shopping basket

after each attempt.

If you are just after the "Olympic experience" you'll have more chance at the moment securing paralympic tickets.

bisjolympics · 06/08/2012 01:08

Everyone sitting near me tonight at the Olympics all seemed to be clever with computers - having programmes that keep searching automatically. No wonder it is so hard to get tickets if you don't know how to do that. We were in Coca Cola corporate seats looking at those around us.

LadyLetch, if you select venues as "other London venues" for your search term instead of searching by sport, it should show you everything in London but not on the park - which would include both sets of gymnastics.

ILoveApples · 06/08/2012 09:50

I'v been trying to get tickets for ages too. When they are in my shopping basket and have been rejected as unavailable, can I just keep clicking on Request Tickets or do I have to go back to the beginning at Select Tickets etc.? This si sooooo frustrating Angry

ILoveApples · 06/08/2012 09:52

select tickets = Search Events

AngelDelightIsIndeedDelightful · 06/08/2012 09:57

On Thursday night I finally managed to get Olympic tickets - we went to the badminton on Saturday morning. The website is beyond useless, but it is worth it in the end.

Apples - I've been restarting my search every time I got unavailable tickets. Quite quick at selecting the options now but precious seconds wasted when you're in a race for them.

LeandarBear · 06/08/2012 10:02

caramelwaffle Sorry to disagree but you don't need to clear your cache and cookies or even your shopping basket. Although, its probably best to clear your Shopping basket and just concentrate on one item.

The only 'secret' to getting tickets is to keep trying, keep trying and try some more. I, have managed to get athletics tickets (£450), diving tickets, gymnastic tickets plus other less prestige tickets over the last few days. I did not proceed with all the tickets I got but they were 'confirmed' ie I had got past the request tickets stage and had confirmation of the actual seat details and could proceed to the payment stage. I got the tickets by perseverance, I chose the relevant sport or all inclusive dates and kept refreshing til something came up and then kept 'requesting tickets' ad nauseum.

I only got one set (2 tickets) for evening gymnastics after hours of trying, but it shows that they are there.

I never cleared my cache/cookies

AngelDelightIsIndeedDelightful · 06/08/2012 10:04

I didn't either Leandar.

CharminglyOdd · 06/08/2012 10:12

Neither did I. It was just sheer luck and perseverance.

oliviafrombolivia · 06/08/2012 11:08

I have just bought 4 x £30 tickets for Volleyball tomorrow night at Earls Court, (can't quite believe it), using this link twitter.com/2012TicketAlert, good luck everyone...

Ketuk · 06/08/2012 11:34

It's just ridiculous!

I am beyond angry at how the website 'works' Angry

I hope serious questions are asked about the number of empty seats, and I'm sure a lot of it is down to the website!

oliviafrombolivia · 06/08/2012 11:36

Ketuk please do try link above, it worked for me the first time I tried... can't quite believe it myself

MrsVamosGOTEAMGB · 06/08/2012 12:36

Ticket alert is useless today, linking to tickets that aren't currently available.

I think most people are on the site permanently, trying to update for tickets.

It doesn't help when you have to try different days and dates and random dates to see all that's 'available' only to be told 'no tickets'.

SO many times yesterday and this morning I have got through to reserving tickets, with times varying between a 9 minute wait to 1 minute and still no tickets.

It seems like they are totally drip-feeding tickets for events, but only for the next couple of days. I think it's absolute crap that they have to drip feed, yesterday I was trying for athletics tickets, which then disappeared, then a couple of hours later reappeared, with cheaper tickets ! It doesn't seem to matter what price band you choose either. I have never ever known sales for tickets to be so bad.

Very frustrating.

I feel sorry for people who are still trying who live a distance from London. You've virtually got no chance if they are going to drip-feed tickets, then reduce prices with hours to go before the event. I am lucky in that I can get to London with a couple of hours notice. Others are not.

TheDoctrineOfEnnis · 06/08/2012 13:01

MrsVamos, if they are selling returned tickets then I think they are selling at the face value of the returned tickets, not at any discount. The face value is printed on the ticket so it would be quite possible to see what the person next to you had paid if you were both holding tickets.

MrsVamosGOTEAMGB · 06/08/2012 13:05

Oh, it's nothing to do with the price per ticket ! I know they are not discounting them !

It's that they have tickets, starting at the top whack, down to say, £50.

Then they all go. Later on, the event reappears, with tickets of all price ranges, so from top price down to the £20.12.

Which you still can't buy !

I would feel a little annoyed if I paid between £50 and £150 for tickets though, and then found the person sitting next to me paid less. Them's the breaks, I guess, and the fact that some live closer to Stratford than others, and can get tickets at very short notice. Smile

TheDoctrineOfEnnis · 06/08/2012 13:11

But I don't think they know what tickets they are going to get back. I think they would be wrong either way - if they held on until they had, say, 5,000 then they would get in trouble for not giving people who had to sort out travel arrangements as much notice as possible to get a ticket.

Fundamentally, the system was probably not designed for mass sales after the beginning of the Games (originally you had to buy resold tickets at least five days ahead of events so they could be posted to you - now they are offering print at home).

MrsVamosGOTEAMGB · 06/08/2012 13:29

Well, if they don't know what tickets they have to sell, they shouldn't be putting events up for sale, as if they do.

Currently there are velodrome and athletic tickets, but the ticket allowance for the session is 0. They may reappear with limited amounts for sale, they may not.

It's frustrating is all !

And I also happen to think that the whole way they have been sold is appalling. They lead people to believe if you didn't succeed in the ballots, tough luck. I bet there are a lot of pissed off people who tried and failed for tickets, who maybe now can't go, to hear that tickets are still available.

MrsVamosGOTEAMGB · 06/08/2012 13:39

And now, a matter of minutes later, those sessions have gone !

So, am I to assume they were never for sale ? Or keep logging in in the hope that they put some on later, or tomorrow ?

Arrrggghhh !

lapsedorienteerer · 06/08/2012 13:57

I've wasted hours on the ticket website.

TheDoctrineOfEnnis · 06/08/2012 13:57

I think they were for sale - but maybe just a few of them and thousands of people trying. Only one of them has to get in a microsecond before you for there to be zero when you click through.

MrsVamosGOTEAMGB · 06/08/2012 13:58

Yep, they are all kind of blurring....... Smile
