Daughter had flies eggs in her ingrowing toenail

That's it. She is 18 and has refused to have the toenails dealt with properly. They have been persistent for a couple of years on her big toes - both sides. Frequently they bled and we have been on and on at her, as they usually look foul.
Anyway, today she saw some little white grains on the toes and after taking a pic to blow the image up, we could see they were flies eggs!! I cannot get over the image in my mind.
I scraped them off and we soaked her feet in water with disinfectant. I can't help worrying that I didn't get them all out.
Obviously she is now going to go to the Dr about them.

Is this too grim a picture for Sporners corner?

Yes treatment has definitely changed - my Dad had his whole toenail remove now it is just those at the side.

I keep mine under control with 6 weekly visits to a podiatrist but it is costly (£35) but I have six that need managed. No pain or pus now though and it keeps it under control

You don't watch The Toe Bro then? I've watched so many I could perform the procedure myself ,no complete nail removal🤣

The picture looked exactly how my daughters did last year, when I eventually got her to agree to go doctors about it they referred her to the hospital. They took 1 look and said there is no saving her nails and had to have both big nails removed.

@newmum32 come off it, it’s disgusting !! The OP should be getting her daughter help for medical treatment not posting this obviously serious medical condition on Mumsnet !! I can’t believe a mother would ignore this problem for so long and I can’t believe an 18 year old’s personal hygiene is that bad! No excuses about Drs they would have seen her!

I always feel bad putting maggots in the clinical waste bin though, thanks for all the hard work now here’s a fiery death.

😂😂😂 I remember being a junior doctor in a vascular ward years ago and feeling super sorry for all the poor helpful maggots.

She wasn't when she started having problems.

They work so hard don’t they? At least we’re both crazy though. Thought it was just me.

Have you taken your daughter for urgent medical care, OP? This looks like staph infection and could lead to amputation if not treated with antibiotics.

How is she doing?

Any update op?

I hope your daughter is doing better Flowers
