Small lump started about a week ago, each day goes by it progresses.. Today its red raw where my thighs have rubbed together the skin has broken down. I've lathered it magnesium sulphate and hot compress... I can see a very tiny head coming up.
My god the agony is unreal.. Also don't feel myself at all. Not feverish or anything. Just feel really terrible.
What is this? Boil? Abscess??

The white stuff is magnesium sulphate BTW

I hope you get some sleep!

Any ibuprofen gel in the house? Wondered if you can slather it on, put a dressing on and hopefully pass out and get some sleep?

Kerikerikeri · 02/10/2021 23:17

Glad you spoke to someone OP. It won’t be too long until morning. Hope you manage to get some sleep x

Leavemyspongesalone · 02/10/2021 23:18

I would take the advice of the medical professionals on this one OP. I hope it pops soon, it looks so sore.

IncessantNameChanger · 02/10/2021 23:18

Your skin looks bruised around it. Do you think its tracking out or just red from the hot water bottle? Its looks like a circle of redness to me from the first picture to now. I think you need to mark it.

Ouch!

Whoopy1 · 02/10/2021 23:18

@angel1977

Ridiculous to go to hospital or A and E with this. Sterilise a needle or razor blade and pop it then apply the mag sulph to the wound and and a non adherent dressing like mepore. Why cant people take some responsibility for their health? Simple self care treatment. No wonder the NHS is at breaking point. Unless your whole leg is swelling and you feel like you are unable to function. Its sore because of where it is anf the pressure caused by the pus the inside, let it out, take painkillers and it should improve.
So you think it is ridiculous to follow medical advice? The op should not lance this, if it needs lanced it should be done by someone qualified to do so. Magnesium Sulphate should not be put on an open wound unless someone who actually knows what they are doing advises it. In fact Magnesium Sulpate is no longer commonly used for boils, carbuncles etc., so please stop giving the op such poor advice!

Roll on morning. Good luck

toocold54 · 02/10/2021 23:19

I’m glad you’ve got it sorted OP! I’d take some pain relief and try and get some sleep so you can get the antibiotics early tomorrow.
As you’ve washed it you should be absolutely fine tonight but if you do start feeling poorly then you could always give 111 a call back.

Inagony234 · 02/10/2021 23:21

I've got sudocreme actually. I might try that next. The magnesium sulphate is appearing to bring the head up though. I just hate how raw it looks and feels :( the skin has literally broken away.

I had similar and had to have it drained under general anaesthetic after being put on antibiotics after a few days then on a drip. It had to be packed for 6 weeks. If only it was as easy as popping it and it being better. Hope you get relief op .

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 02/10/2021 23:23

I favour Sudocrem over MS, I find it too harsh, Sudocrem works a treat as many a teen with spotty skin will confirmWink

Inagony234 · 02/10/2021 23:23

I've never known anything like this before, other than a bartholins cyst. Hope this isn't the start of recurrent boils :-(

LordoftheDanceSaidHe · 02/10/2021 23:24

I'd follow others advice with the salty hit water, wash cloths and savlon.

PricklesTheHedgehog · 02/10/2021 23:25

Good luck OP. Hope your antibiotics kick in soon.

IncessantNameChanger · 02/10/2021 23:35

The packing isnt nice but it might refill. Dh had one packed and it was grim. He was told he would need it cut out to stop it reoccurring at a later date but in the end they had cut it all away in the drainage OP.

Kummerspeck · 02/10/2021 23:37

Please remember that just because someone says they are qualified in some way does not mean they are or that their advice is right.
As a unicorn with a medical degree and a speciality in inner thigh infections I think you should stand on one leg and recite poetry till it pops...
...but seriously, your course of action with antibiotics at home is sensible, A&E seems extreme.

Salome61 · 02/10/2021 23:40

Have you got any melonin pads you can put on it while you are in bed? Sorry you are in such pain, I hope you can get some sleep, glad you are getting some anti-b's in the morning.

This is dangerous "advice".

You don't know enough to know what you don't know.

BigBadBoom · 02/10/2021 23:43

I said sudocreme earlier, please try it. Just slather it on. I have had things similar to this for years and I promise that it helps. As long as there isn't infection tracking out of it, like a red line, at least it might make you more comfortable until morning. It's an antiseptic ointment, it won't do any harm.

Buttercup72 · 02/10/2021 23:50

Make a poultice, mix some hand soap and sugar together and leave it on the boil, it should help speed up the process. The pain can be terrible - I’ve had a few myself. You may be best seeing a doctor in case you need antibiotics.

BigBadBoom · 02/10/2021 23:50

It's not the nicest thing, but please don't panic.

DappyApple · 03/10/2021 00:10

I feel for you op I suffer from reoccurring boils in my bikini area. Nothing seems to help me but one thing that I’ve found that does help to drain them is hydrocolloid plasters. Sometimes marketed as blister plasters

They only work when the boil is getting ready to go, but speeds up the process

I usually get the larger ones so that the boil is completely covered and leave it for as long as possible. It might sting to buggery when it starts to drain. But you can see on the plaster itself if there’s fluid/gunk on it as the plasters are clear.
Usually when you remove the plaster it’ll just open up.
Once it has opened and started to drain the pain will subside.

Might be worth a try if it hasn’t burst by tomorrow.

Itsnotallaboutyoubaby · 03/10/2021 00:31

Just to say I hope it bursts soon OP

TrollsAreSaddos · 03/10/2021 00:52

That looks sore.
