Enormous underarm boil... does this need a doctor?

Apologies for the stubble Blush

This has come up over the last 4 days and it's super-annoying. Magnesium sulphate hasn't done much, nor have hot compresses (although it has grown pretty big pretty fast).

Should I get to the docs to have it drained?

Oh Lord. Envy

lemonsandgingerbeer · 26/06/2021 08:28

@RebeccaCloud9

Is it the sac? Dr Pimple Popper cuts/pulls that bit out.
I don't know - how do I tell?!

Doctor / nurse but it does need to be seen

Ouch

MartyHart · 26/06/2021 08:57

Yikes! Please see someone about this (and report back on what happens with pictures)

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 26/06/2021 09:02

Hmmm that just like it's like it's healing to me. Are you bathing it with warm salt water throughout the day?

blahblahblah321 · 26/06/2021 09:03

That looks like the opening of a sinus (not a medical professional BTW!!)

I would get that checked out as if it is, you probably need to keep it clean to avoid reinfection

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 26/06/2021 09:05

What's a sinus?!

blahblahblah321 · 26/06/2021 09:12

It's just like a pit under the skin I think. I've suffered from a pilonidal sinus for donkeys years and when mine flares then bursts I always end up with something similar to OP's little red blob. I was always advised to keep the area clean when it appears

What happens to it? Does it go back in?

This is like a proper blob of flesh sticking out... and there's a bit of leftover pus making its way out from behind...

It didn't properly drain first time round. If you can bear it, try a sharp sterilised needle.

CheerfulBunny · 26/06/2021 10:07

Oh god, how painful. I hope you get sorted soon. I had a massive spot in an (ahem) personal pube-related area last summer and it hurt so much it stopped me sleeping but luckily, burst after a couple of days. I am pathetically grateful it went by itself after I assaulted it with tea tree and germoline on an hourly basis. Some of the stuff on this thread is scary - when sporn goes bad! Shock

Fozzleyplum · 26/06/2021 13:11

That looks rather like the thing I delivered from DS's abcess. I would not be able to resist giving it a gentle pull with sterilised tweezers. But bear in mind I am not medically qualified, and overinvested...

I did try to give it a little tug and oh my goodness it really hurt!

It feels as though it might be attached at the other end...

Fozzleyplum · 26/06/2021 19:36

DS was advised to use hot compresses. I think someone upthread mentioned that they are not a good idea, but our surgery was definitely in favour of them. It was shortly after a session of those, that the sac was ready to come out.

CovidCorvid · 26/06/2021 19:41

It possibly is attached at the other end if it’s a sac? In dr pimple popper videos there is a root which she cuts off with scissors!

DobbyTheHouseElk · 26/06/2021 20:19

Dr PP uses local anaesthetic first though...

CovidCorvid · 26/06/2021 22:20

True!

LemonJuiceFromConcentrate · 27/06/2021 00:27

Oh wow, when it comes to talk of scissors and “roots” and stuff that feels painfully attached, surely we are in a zone where it has to be handled by professionals.

OnWhatPlanet · 27/06/2021 01:56

I'm not going to lie, I'm place marking to see what happens The Root Thing Smile

Mumdiva99 · 27/06/2021 08:50

That isn't the sac. When I squeezed DH back cyst years ago before I watched Dr PP after squeezing a flappy bit came out....which I now know was the sack. It wasn't hard and he couldn't feel me touching it.

I'd say just keep clean and keep taking the AB. Don't pull that off.

lemonsandgingerbeer · 27/06/2021 11:36

I've got another appointment with the doctor tomorrow morning. We'll see.

More of it seems to be emerging, whatever it is.

I have a hunch it may be the lump I could feel under my skin BEFORE it all blew up... but who knows?

It is GROSS though. I feel all kinds of weird.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 27/06/2021 12:44

I think it’s “innards”

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 27/06/2021 13:55

Are you hot compressing?

Will be interesting to see what the GP says. I think it looks better than it did for sure.

ScarlettDarling · 27/06/2021 19:45
