Enormous underarm boil... does this need a doctor?

Apologies for the stubble

This has come up over the last 4 days and it's super-annoying. Magnesium sulphate hasn't done much, nor have hot compresses (although it has grown pretty big pretty fast).

Should I get to the docs to have it drained?

I also got burnt, weepy, scaly armpits from Mitchum. I was horrified and satisfied in equal measure

I hadn’t attributed the scaley under arm skin to Mitchum! Whatever I put on mine just seemed to activate the skin further. In the end I used a steroid ointment on it and it cleared. Horrid stuff.

Op hope I it on the mend now.

Teenage DS is prone to these and they quickly grow HUGE. So far, on each occasion he has been prescribed antibiotics and, a few days in to the course, the boil pops. The most recent one was very satisfying. It suddenly came to a head and a sort of ribbon of solidified pus poked out. I pulled on it gently and "delivered", much in the style of James Herriott delivering a calf, a sac of bloody pus. There was more pus behind it which I squeezed out and then the whole thing deflated and healed over a couple of days.

Oh God, I loved reading that - I could see it in my mind’s eye. I’m a full-on spooner, aren’t I? How did that happen?

DH has recently acquired the habit of watching live feeds of planes landing and taking off. I gently mocked him, and he said it was more wholesome than watching people squeeze zits on YouTube

He doesn’t bother logging in to his own account when watching YouTube on the telly, just uses mine. I’m going to have to create a second YouTube login for my sporn activities….

Well, OP (and others in this thread), I read this yesterday, thankful in the knowledge that I have never had to deal with anything like this. However, was just in the bath and while I was soaping my underarms felt a largish lump that is sore to the touch. On closer examination, it seems I too have a boil albeit not as big as OP's and quite a way under the surface. As I was in the bath, I took the opportunity to apply a hot compress and will continue to do so now I am out of the bath. If it does not come to a head/burst, I will call the GP on Monday.

I must admit I am grateful to this thread otherwise I would have panicked on discovery of it!

But then I imagined that's a bit like offering someone your leftover dinner scraps (and wasn't sure how to snap it without giving you all an eyeful of boob), so...

Woke up this morning with what I thought was a lump of congealed gunk on top of the leftover swelling.

Tried to wipe it off and it's AGONY - tried to wash it off and it didn't work... tried to pinch it off with tweezers and it won't give.
