After 15 years of marriage he has finally let me have a go.

Every so often the wax builds up. Normally it gets bad enough for him to be practically deaf in one ear - and only then will he finally use the olive oil and then see the nurse 10 days later for syringing. He has never let me accompany him to the nurse .

This time....he let me not only look....but.....help.....

It was amazing.

We got a special syringe-y thing from Amazon. Olive oil for a few days and then I set to it.

He is totally grossed out by the whole thing.

He allowed me to take photos of the results.

He knows I want to share it with my fellow sporners.

He thinks we are all utterly grim.

Fingers crossed for more.

He is letting me help him attack the other ear. He is just grabbing a towel and I will start.

Visitors imminent though so may end up being done later. Will update. Hopefully with more photos.

Well just finally done the other ear. Not quite as satisfying with the big motherload from Ear1 but still got results. Was more a gradual thing and mostly just by the syringe.

DH says hi and he very kindly fished out a couple of bigger lumps from the sink which escaped - so they could be included in the photographic evidence.

He still thinks we are all very, very weird.

Think this may be it for this year. Will maybe revisit in 2017.

And then the bits fished out of his outer Ear2 with a cotton bud.

Thinking on it - still a pretty good haul. But just did not give the same satisfaction as the tweezer extraction of the bug yesterday.

OMG. Ordering for selectively deaf DH now. I can't deal with another argument at Xmas about the level of the TV!

furrymuff I have been known to attack at night when he's drunkenly passed out asleep. Granted not for big ones, but for the ones that have caught my eye. Someone will probably complain I'm assaulting him now. He does let me use my "pokey stick" on his back and face sometimes, but won't sit long enough for my liking!

Well, this is happening with boring regularity now. not DH started muttering at the beginning of the week about increasing blockages/deafness. I restrained myself from rubbing my thighs, but kindly offered to shine a torch and have a look.....

Fantastic motherload was there, too hard and far away for an immediate attack. I set him with the task of popping some oil in for a few days.

But. He childishly muttered about not having any drops anywhere..... (in his defence, his ears troubles do turn him into a sulky child - he is OK apart from that. And he puts up with me all of us sporning over the results.

So....

Anyway. I have a slight panic about the lack of ear-drops. Work/life a bit mad early in the week and not sure if I could get to the shops quick enough

I know he would not accept just using any old oil. I refrain from shouting "Come on you wuss, I need the oil to start immediately so that I can attack sooner!"

I go hunting. Victory! I find a dusty bottle on top of the bathroom cupboard and put it on his pillow (dusted first cos I am nice like that) so he cannot forget that evening.

And now. The waiting game.....

A day passes.

Another day. --Do not worry, dear fellow-sporner, I am reminding him to "oil" regularly.

I take the odd look with the torch but have to stop myself doing it too much as the temptation to attack is strong. I do not want to risk
a) Scaring DH off
b) Turning DH off with my spornerish stalker-or-waxy-ears behaviour.

And then yesterday morning...

"Twenty, would you have a go at my ear please? I think it is ready."

His reluctance is in stark contrast to my hidden eagerness.

We go upstairs. He sits on the stool in the bathroom with a towel draped over his shoulder and holds the Bertolli pot ready to catch the water as it comes swooshing out of his ear.

"DH I think, from previous experience we should just, you know, stick with it. Keep going until we have it all out." no wussing out, it is all mine

So I start to syringe. One bu one I gently swoosh the warm water into his blocked ear.

Only a few tiny flakes are the result. But my elevated heart rate tells me to keep at it.

I take a look with my torch...and it shines on the clearly shifted motherlode.

One lump is close enough to extract with a cotton bud.

Oh the bliss and satisfaction of that small lump on the white cotton.

Mixed with the exhilaration and anticipation that seeing the HUGE lump nearly close enough. There is no way that fucker was not going to be mine this morning. We would not be able to "Leave it for another day". Yes! Victory would be mine. Just patience and and not showing too much excitement to DH would win the day.

And so I went back to calmly (on the outside) syringing warm water gently into DH"s ears.

And then.....

God, sorry - DS needed help with homework (cooking from a different culture so have had an afternoon of filo pastry and feta cheese).

So....we kept going. "Oh, something is moving.." muttered DH. "Oh, I can hear..."

The anticipation - well, mine..not his...was building. I resisted and resisted having a look until I could bear it no longer....

OMFG - it was there. It was enormous. It was within very easy reach. I casually picked up a cotton bud. A quick swipe and the fucker was mine.

After a couple of final swooshes (though I checked and could see all was clear) we stopped. DH mopped the drips from his ear.

"You'll be showing that to your weird friends then?" he asked with a grimace? Permission given I skipped to find my phone and snapped away.

Wow, another good result. I need to get one of those syringes. I have used a calpol one, it just doesn't hold enough liquid but has done the trick on husband's in the past.
Looking at the syringe good old Amazon thought I might be interested in the ear camera, good old Amazon would be right. It's going in my Christmas list 😂.

This is amazing. I weirdly can't watch the videos but I do love photos.

I dig at my ears with a cotton bud far too often and never get anything juicy. I'm just getting over a cold and I can hear squelching in my left ear so something is in there, I just need to get it out.
