We have been asked by the team at the Warner Bros. Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter to find around 75 MNers and their families to attend a special event for MNers at the Studio Tour (near Watford) to experience the attraction (and have a couple of extra treats) and to report back to the rest of MN.

They say "step on to authentic sets, discover the magic behind spellbinding special effects and explore the behind-the-scenes secrets of the Harry Potter™ film series. Tread the original stone floor of the iconic Hogwarts™ Great Hall, encounter animatronic creatures and wander down Diagon Alley™. Located at the Studios where all eight films were produced, the Studio Tour showcases the incredible British talent, imagination and artistry that went into making the impossible a reality on screen. Visitors will relive the magic through the eyes of the filmmakers who brought the Harry Potter film series to life".

We're looking for families to attend a tour of the studios where there will be some special treats for MN families - including a free souvenir guidebook, food during the tour (hot dog/goujons/mac and cheese per person from the Backlot Cafe), glass of wine/beer/soft drink and a Butterbeer taster! There will also be a chance to have a group photo in the flying car Smile.

This is a special event for MNers who love the Harry Potter films or even film making in general.

The tour is aimed at children aged 8+ but if you have younger children they can attend if you wish. It's accessible to all including buggies.

The event will take place
Near Watford North London
On Wednesday 23rd March
Arrival from 4pm (must arrive by 5pm) and the tour lasts around 3 hours. Note there may be some waiting around when you arrive due to being allocated the next available tour.

There is a free on-site car park, which is a short walk away from the entrance to the Studio Tour, with designated disabled parking. For those arriving by train, a shuttle bus runs to and from Watford Junction train station every 20 minutes (£2.50 return).

MNers can attend with their partner and children - please specify your group size on the sign up form.

You will need to make your own way to the event and attendance is strictly by invitation only!

After the event, we'd need you to please give your feedback on a thread on MN - and add a review in the MN days out section (here)

If you'd like to attend please add your details here and we will be in touch with selected MNers asap. NOTE: there will be a strict list of names and party size on the door.

All MNers who share their feedback of the Studio Tour and add a review will be entered into a prize draw where two lucky MNers will win a goody bag containing a Harry Potter wand, Fizzing Whizzbees, Peppermint Toads, Chocolate Frog and a packet of Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Beans (worth £57.75).

Thanks and good luck!

i may be stressing a little over that too - had to move heaven and earth to get cover for work :) i still keep checking the email. Its really me!!! I love mumsnet - DP used to be skeptical but now he thinks of it as some sort of miracle! lolol

wannabestressfree · 16/03/2016 05:21

Yes never again the rallying cries of 'are you on mumsnet again?' When as a family it has bought us such treasures of Harry Potter and pasta sauces :)
Joking apart I am grateful as I could never have afforded to take them en mass and they get a bit grumpy if I suggest a hunger games style picking event.....

LunaLunaLovegood · 16/03/2016 08:52

Sounds like it's going to be one big Mumsnet Birthday Party Cake

Has anyone else been googling 'what is the least worst budget hotel in the area'?!

Sootica - for us or the kids? Grin

DS totally thinks I am the best mother in the world right now.

LunaLunaLovegood · 16/03/2016 10:29

I haven't told DC yet. DH knows and is so pleased. I'm getting them all to pick me up from work with car loaded with luggage and set straight off.

Still not sure when we will actually tell them...

Great tip about the wands. Can anyone recommend any cheapo ones in particular?

I think we need some Harry Potter smileys. [wizard]

ShowOfHands · 16/03/2016 12:37

I haven't told the dc. I'm going to pick them up from school with their costumes to change into (dd was Hagrid for world book day) and just drive there. I'm not sure I can resist telling them though. I keep whooping in a wholly undignified way. I am SO thrilled. I can't believe it.

Awww ShowOfHands, epic costume!

DD wears her Gryffindor hoody non stop anyway so she won't notice anything unusual Grin

FranksBobot · 16/03/2016 13:34

Luna we've stayed at the premier inn near leavesden and the holiday inn express at Watford junction before. Both were rather nice.

RTKangaMummy · 16/03/2016 13:39

For people who want hotels, if you have loads and loads of money "The Grove" is 5* and is very close and easy to travel to/from Warner Bros by car or taxi or for more realistic price the Travelodge, in Market Street, WATFORD central is a short walk WATFORD Junction station, where the HP bus goes from/to

The Travelodge in central WATFORD is ok, not 5* but quite safe with an entry system to the rooms not a quiet location as it is in centre of the town. but there is no parking there, but there are car parks within a few mins walking distance, one is called CHURCH car park, which is the closest.

There are loads and loads of different eating places in Watford

We have stayed in the Central Watford Travelodge last year and it is ok better than some in Watford but not as good as The Grove

Hope that helps SmileSmileSmile

RTKangaMummy · 16/03/2016 13:39

Can you still get Harry Potter clothing in Primark?

mcdog · 16/03/2016 16:06

WE ARE GOING!!!!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH MUMSNET!!!!!!!

Silky2015 · 16/03/2016 16:10

I don't suppose a few extra tickets have appeared. Positive thinking in full force

ThisUserNameIsAlreadyTaken · 16/03/2016 16:15

Re. Hotels,

There is a hotel called Hunton Park, that's a bit like a cross between the grove and a travels lodge.

Not as expensive as the grove but more than a travel lodge.

There's also another travel lodge thing in Garston, next to TGIs on St. Albans road.

Ann I didn't say in my email to confirm for the 6 of us.
Thank you.

mcdog · 16/03/2016 16:18

Is it inappropriate if I take the wand I bought in Florida with me???

mcdog · 16/03/2016 17:06

Annmumsnet: my email is saying your email address is undeliverable. Please accept this as our RSVP for 2x adults and 2x children!!!!!

muminthecity · 16/03/2016 18:05

AnnMumsnet - Have all of the tickets been allocated now? I'm still frantically checking my emails every 5 seconds! If it helps my chances at all I'd be happy to have 2 tickets instead of the 3 I put down - one adult and one child Flowers

ToucanPlay · 16/03/2016 18:22

Have the 2nd lot gone out? Hope not as I've not received any email and am still clinging on to hope!

ToucanPlay · 16/03/2016 18:24

I just jumped a foot cause there was an email from mums net in my junk box but it was unrelated Sad

ShowOfHands · 16/03/2016 18:55

The original e-mail says we have until tomorrow to confirm attendance so the waiting list perusal won't happen till tomorrow. Fingers crossed for you all!

YesterdayOnceMore · 16/03/2016 23:06

I'm joining with those who are worried their reply email hasn't gone through. I have no reason to think it hasn't, but it's still worrying me!

DurhamDurham · 17/03/2016 07:11

I keep checking my sent box and I can see my RSVP there but then I go to the outbox to make sure it's not still there Blush
