AnnMumsnet · 10/03/2016 10:59

We have been asked by the team at the Warner Bros. Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter to find around 75 MNers and their families to attend a special event for MNers at the Studio Tour (near Watford) to experience the attraction (and have a couple of extra treats) and to report back to the rest of MN.

They say "step on to authentic sets, discover the magic behind spellbinding special effects and explore the behind-the-scenes secrets of the Harry Potter™ film series. Tread the original stone floor of the iconic Hogwarts™ Great Hall, encounter animatronic creatures and wander down Diagon Alley™. Located at the Studios where all eight films were produced, the Studio Tour showcases the incredible British talent, imagination and artistry that went into making the impossible a reality on screen. Visitors will relive the magic through the eyes of the filmmakers who brought the Harry Potter film series to life".

We're looking for families to attend a tour of the studios where there will be some special treats for MN families - including a free souvenir guidebook, food during the tour (hot dog/goujons/mac and cheese per person from the Backlot Cafe), glass of wine/beer/soft drink and a Butterbeer taster! There will also be a chance to have a group photo in the flying car Smile.

This is a special event for MNers who love the Harry Potter films or even film making in general.

The tour is aimed at children aged 8+ but if you have younger children they can attend if you wish. It's accessible to all including buggies.

The event will take place
Near Watford North London
On Wednesday 23rd March
Arrival from 4pm (must arrive by 5pm) and the tour lasts around 3 hours. Note there may be some waiting around when you arrive due to being allocated the next available tour.

There is a free on-site car park, which is a short walk away from the entrance to the Studio Tour, with designated disabled parking. For those arriving by train, a shuttle bus runs to and from Watford Junction train station every 20 minutes (£2.50 return).

MNers can attend with their partner and children - please specify your group size on the sign up form.

You will need to make your own way to the event and attendance is strictly by invitation only!

After the event, we'd need you to please give your feedback on a thread on MN - and add a review in the MN days out section (here)

If you'd like to attend please add your details here and we will be in touch with selected MNers asap. NOTE: there will be a strict list of names and party size on the door.

All MNers who share their feedback of the Studio Tour and add a review will be entered into a prize draw where two lucky MNers will win a goody bag containing a Harry Potter wand, Fizzing Whizzbees, Peppermint Toads, Chocolate Frog and a packet of Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Beans (worth £57.75).

Thanks and good luck!

Woohoo! Email came yesterday - we were obviously level 2 invites Wink Its dd's birthday on Saturday so debating whether to tell her then, or wait until weds .... Decisions, decisions Smile

YesterdayOnceMore · 18/03/2016 09:44

Excitedly awaiting today's instruction email! And off to Primark tomorrow (thanks) to see what they have. The children already have costumes, but you can never have too much Harry Potter stuff!!

vincenta · 18/03/2016 10:01

That's a pity that I missed this one. This is the place my hubby and son would love to visit .But no way I am paying 97£ for 2 adults one child and one 18 month old. can't wait to see reviews from this event!

VoldysGoneMouldy · 18/03/2016 10:11

What a wonderful idea about the letters! I could totally make some parchment.... Grin

Found a little geeky shop near us and bought some Time Turners to wear! Not that I'm still bouncing around or anything.

LunaLunaLovegood · 18/03/2016 10:36

I'm trying to figure out how to fit in a trip to Primark soon... My top tip from reading reviews is DON'T WEAR GREEN. The photos are done with green-screens so parts of you could disappear Shock

YesterdayOnceMore · 18/03/2016 10:39

So don't go as a Slytherin then!

Byrdie · 18/03/2016 10:41

Agh. Also keep checking my email. We recently moved just 30 mins away and haven't been yet... and it's the end of term so would be perfect... Come on round 2... Or 3! Hmmmph. I'll leave husband at home if that helps!!

Cagliostro · 18/03/2016 14:31

Surely nobody would dare go as a Slytherin anyway :o

ShowOfHands · 18/03/2016 14:49

DS would be in Slytherin I suspect. I think we're unfairly prejudiced against Slytherin. Gryffindor and Slytherin are two sides of the same coin. Ambitious, confident, rule breaking, daring, proud. Slytherin might be home of the darkest wizards but I think they're not so dissimilar. I think Draco is infinitely more interesting than Harry for example. In fact, I struggle with the Gryffindor idolising. They are as prone to arrogant bullying and misbehaviour as the Slytherins imho.

This is why I'm Ravenclaw and DD, Hufflepuff. Grin

I may have over thought this.

Cagliostro · 18/03/2016 15:38

It's a fair point... and I don't think there's any such thing as overthinking when it comes to HP :o

Ludicrously excited. DH can't decide which of his HP t-shirts to wear :o

YesterdayOnceMore · 18/03/2016 15:51

I agree ShowOfHands. I always thought no wonder Slytherin hates Gryffindor- they always won the house cup and then had it cruelly taken away every year when extra points were given to Harry and his friends.

On another note, I assume no one has got an information email yet? (Slightly worried!)

ShowOfHands · 18/03/2016 16:05

Nope, no e-mail yet.

AnnMumsnet · 18/03/2016 16:54

No joining details email yet - just waiting on one more person to confirm and will send then - should be either over weekend or Monday 1st thing.

I've never realised how stressful waiting for my hogwarts letter would be! I think DP is close to disowning me Grin

YesterdayOnceMore · 18/03/2016 17:10

Phew! And thanks for letting us know!

VoldysGoneMouldy · 18/03/2016 17:34

RE Gryffindor preferential treatment, have you seen Dumble Burns on Tumblr? Loads of the comics lean on that, they're hilarious.

On Pottermore I'm a Ravenclaw, but at least one test has told me I'm Slytherin Shock

ThisToo · 18/03/2016 19:53

Our invite arrived yesterday but I only found the email this morning. I sent my RSVP straight back though so I hope Ann received it okay. My HP obsessed son is over the moon and will definitely be attending in his full Slytherin robes. Thank you Mumsnet Smile

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 18/03/2016 19:58

DS has refused to dress up. So we'll be going as muggles then Hmm

deepdarkwood · 18/03/2016 20:21

I've just used an online template to make an owl HP invite letter for dd for her birthday tomorrow - decided i can't handle trying to wait and tell them after school on Weds!

LunaLunaLovegood · 18/03/2016 22:31

It's still a secret here... DD said today that ALL her friends have been or are planning visits to WB Studios. Whilst feeling very sorry for herself. When I was her age my friends had a My Little Pony Club and I never had a My Little Pony Sad so I know how she is feeling. So pleased to think she won't be scarred for life, all thanks to Mumsnet Grin

wishingchair1 · 19/03/2016 13:18

Still wishing. Fingers crossed for a 3rd round. We can still come

Wiifitmama · 19/03/2016 14:35

I just received my email with instructions for the day in case anyone is wondering if it has been sent out yet.

DurhamDurham · 19/03/2016 14:38

The absolute relief when you get your joining instructions, it seems much more 'real' now.

See you there fellow Mumsnetters!!

FranksBobot · 19/03/2016 14:53

Hurrah my "owl" has arrived! Thank you so much Mumsnet we can not wait. Haven't told Dd1 yet, will be surprising her when I pick her up early from school. Bring on the butterbeer Grin

fingles · 19/03/2016 15:52

Still here, if anyone can't go.
