What an amazing experience we had yesterday.
DH had a Father's Day lie in and therefore didn't have time for his Gru makeover but the little ones dressed up and had the best time ever considering it was 'only' a Cinema trip.
Will add a full review later when I have more time and maybe if I can work out the namechange thingy I will add photos of my little Margo and Minion enjoying all the fun

nenevomito · 17/06/2013 14:29
  1. Absolutely hilarious and very appealing to my two children.
  1. I'd give it 4, DD gave it 5 and DS gave it 3 as he freaked out at the evil minions.
  1. DS's favourite parts were when Gru dressed up as a fairy princess and when he said "try again, a little less like a zombie." DD liked the bit at the end in the credits, but she's rather small so didn't get all the rest of the film.
  1. Meeting the life-size minions.
  1. Very good and loved the fact that there we didn't have to sit through hours of ads too.
  1. Already have. Brilliant film, very funny. Sequels can be touch and go, but because it had a completely different story line, it worked really well.

  • Please give a brief, one sentence review of the film
A fun adventure for the whole family
  • Out of 5, how many stars would you give the film? How many would your DC give it? (5 is highest and 1 is lowest)
5, we loved it
  • What was your/your DC's favourite part of the film? Who is their favourite character and why?
The minions changing into the mutated minions (or 'when the minions went all purple and crazy!') We loved the minions so much.
  • What did your DCs love best about the day?
Meeting a real life minion although oddly neither wanted to get too close
  • What was your overall experience of the screening?
So much fun,the balloon modelling, colouring and real life minions made it even more special
  • If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Despicable Me 2 to friends and family? Why?
We've already been telling everyone all about it! It's that rare example of a sequel being as good as the first film. Everyone should go!

  • Please give a brief, one sentence review of the film

Very funny on many levels.

  • Out of 5, how many stars would you give the film? How many would your DC give it? (5 is highest and 1 is lowest)

We would both give it 5

  • What was your/your DC's favourite part of the film? Who is their favourite character and why?

DS liked the chicken in the restaurant and the minion running naked into the sea parts. His favourite characters are the minions in all their forms

  • What did your DCs love best about the day?

DS loved the balloon minion and wearing the 3D glasses. We got quite a few strange looks on the tube home as he insisted on wearing them!

  • What was your overall experience of the screening?

*We had a fantastic day. Thankyou for choosing us.

I would suggest that the activities at the beginning could have been better organised as DS was pushed out of the way whilst waiting to get a picture with a Minion and then he didn't want to go back. This meant he was asking all the way home about his Minion picture which sadly we didn't get.

A bit more information whilst waiting in the foyer would have been nice as it was quite hot and DS was getting antsy waiting.*

  • If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Despicable Me 2 to friends and family? Why?

Absolutely. The film was great. The venue was perfect and DS is already asking to watch the movie again. It is definitely going to be purchased in 3D as soon as it is released.

5madthings · 17/06/2013 16:17

OK boys are back from school so shall get them each to add a review.

A funny film, GRU defeats baddies and finds love along the way!

Ds2 gives it five stars!
Ds3 gives it five stars!
Ds4 gives it thirty billion stars...he REALLY liked it! He was laughing hysterically at some bits, I felt a bit bad that he was laughing so loud but has loved it!!

I gave it four stars.

Ds2 fave bit of the film, when el macho tried o send GRU and Lucy into the volcano on the shark rocket but they escaped.
Ds2 fave character is Lucy because of her cool weapons...all the boys want a lipstick tazer!

Ds3 fave bit of the film when GRU got on his motorbike to go rescue Lucy.
Ds3 fave character is GRU because of his car and bike and he is really cool.

Ds4 fave bit of film, when they squirted the purple minions with the antidote and they turned nice again! (He found the purple minions a bit scary, needed a cuddle when they came on and tried to get the girls but he likes them even tho they are a bit scary)
Ds4 fave character is Edith cos she is a cool ninja and ALL the minions!

Their fave bit of the day was meeting the minions! And watching the film.

Overall experience of screening, the film was awesome, loved the 3d, esp the bubbles and the minions falling out of the screen!

We were at the o2 and it was very busy, lots of queuing, we didn't manage to get a balloon :( and I felt rushed when trying to get pics of boys with the minions, felt that could have been better organized.

They enjoyed the colouring in and the game on the iPad they got to play.

They liked the snack but I am glad I bought them a kiddy snack box each as the 'pushpop' was a bit pants tbh.

Overall it was a great day tho, despite our nightmare train journey to get there! We loved the film and will def be recommending it (already have) and will also buy it as soon its out on DVD.

Thanks mnhq for a great treat and it was lovely to meet s many other mnetters and their children who were all well behaved!

Shall come back later to add photos :)

5madthings · 17/06/2013 16:19

Oh they love the masks! And are requesting despicable me 2 toys, I hadn't found any local to me but have been informed we can get them in toys r us so shall gave to go there!

  • Please give a brief, one sentence review of the film
a great family film - enough laughs to keep parents interested as well as children although to be very picky (because we did love it) it was too violent and Lucy Wilde's character was very soppy/lacking in self confidence/not a good role model (except for first scene), which really differs to the girls who are great.
  • Out of 5, how many stars would you give the film? How many would your DC give it? (5 is highest and 1 is lowest)
Parents - 4 DC - 4.5
  • What was your/your DC's favourite part of the film? Who is their favourite character and why?

favourite part:
DC - when Gru pretended to be the fairy
Parents - Minions on the beach and doing YMCA

Favourite characters:
all - all the minions!

  • What did your DCs love best about the day?
all of it - it was all great - meeting the minions, doing the colouring, seeing the film
  • What was your overall experience of the screening?
very good
  • If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Despicable Me 2 to friends and family? Why?
YES. See above.
5madthings · 17/06/2013 16:27

Oh yes makes minions on the beach! Fart guns, fighting with the chicken, lots of 'classic' bits that will be remembered.

Solo · 17/06/2013 16:28
  • Out of 5, how many stars would you give the film? How many would your DC give it? (5 is highest and 1 is lowest)

5 well a million, but I think that's a 5*

  • What was your/your DC's favourite part of the film? Who is their favourite character and why?

Dd loved the 3D. She and I hadn't seen a 3D film before. Dd loved Lucy because she was a spy and she (Dd) loved her weapons.

  • What did your DCs love best about the day?

Dd 'loved the way it was sunny outside!' Hmm or.........she loved the minion balloons that those lovely, patient ladies made up for all the children before the film.

  • What was your overall experience of the screening?

Dd loved the cinema, but found it all too loud for her 6yo ears. I quite often found her to have her fingers in her ears.
I liked the O2 cinema; I don't know how old it is, but it was nice and clean and welcoming. I also liked that it was straight into the film and had no ads for future films that the Dc's could nag you to go and see.

  • If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Despicable Me 2 to friends and family? Why?

Yes I would. It's a great and funny film for the whole family.

5madthings · 17/06/2013 16:31

Boys with ds4 being scary minion.

5madthings · 17/06/2013 16:32

With the real minions!

Solo · 17/06/2013 16:32

Ooops! forgot the first question!

  • Please give a brief, one sentence review of the film

Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Grin

5madthings · 17/06/2013 16:33

No idea why they have come up sideways and upside down! They didn't do that on 'preview'...

Rilletts · 17/06/2013 16:53

Firstly, thanks MN for tickets. A great afternoon.

  1. Action packets, incredible visuals with lots of giggles in goggles.
  1. 4/5
  1. When 'they kisssed' and the bubbles at end.
  1. The film, they sat still and were mesmerised. DD liked Lucy the best.
  1. Overall impression of screening, was excellent. All very well behaved children in cinema too!
  1. Would certainly reccomend - have already in fact.

Thanks again!

MyelinSheath · 17/06/2013 18:09

The film is about a reformed evil character juggling good vs evil and raising 3 kids.

Me: 4 Kids: 5

Favourite part of the film: Where they snigger at Silas Ramsbottom's name.

Favourite character and why: Gru because he sneaks around and spies on other people.

What did your DCs love best about the day: The end of the film.

Overall very positive although wish we hadn't got there for 3:30 as there was a lot of waiting around.

Yes I'd recommend it, it's a fun family film that everyone can enjoy.

Yas1 · 17/06/2013 19:10

We would give the film 5 stars as it was so funny.
Favourite part if the film was when De Gru dressed up as a fairy. The kids loved all of it. The dc loved Lucy and all of the minions.
We all lived meeting the real life minions and the dc loved the ballon minions.
Really enjoyed the whole afternoon but thought that instead of the ring lollipop a little bag of popcorn could have been given, giving a proper feel of the cinema.
So far today I have mentioned the film to everyone I have met and recommend that it's watched. No doubt will get the DVD and have to watch it a million times like the first movie.

fuzzpig · 17/06/2013 20:02

I hope MN do more screening events like this. It really was fab and something we will be talking about for a long time! :)

RachelHRD · 17/06/2013 21:23

Thank you Mumsnet for a fantastic afternoon for all of us and an extra special Fathers Day treat for DH!!

  1. A fantastic film for minion's of all ages and with a happy ending - what more could you want!!
  1. 5 stars from us
DS(5) loved the minion fire engine and the end credits with the trumpets!! DD(3) loved the baddies!!! They both loved the Minions and wanted to bring one home!
  1. Unfortunately thanks to London traffic we missed most of the foyer fun but they loved meeting the minions and DS loved playing on the IPad game! They both loved the sweetie rings and masks!
  1. We really enjoyed it and felt very special seeing it before general release. The cinema is lovely and it was our first visit to the O2 Arena which is awesome! It was great seeing other vipers too!
I think it might have helped to have allocated seating as we missed some of the foyer fun (as well as being late!) by having to queue to go in. Whilst the DC's were thrilled with the ring lollies I think I would have preferred popcorn!!
  1. We would definitely (and already have) recommend the film. We all loved it and the 3D experience was amazing with both DC's trying to catch things. DH and I were very impressed too as the last 3D films we both saw were decades ago and things have improved somewhat since then!!

A fantastic experience and we are so grateful we were chosen Grin

  • Please give a brief, one sentence review of the film

Fantastic film for kids and adults, just the thing for perfecting your Gru accent.

  • Out of 5, how many stars would you give the film? How many would your DC give it? (5 is highest and 1 is lowest)

I would give it 5 stars as did my 18 year old niece who came with us. The DDs (6 & 9) gave it 5 million stars each and haven't stopped talking about it since.

  • What was your/your DC's favourite part of the film? Who is their favourite character and why?

They both loved Gru, DD2 loved the bit where he dresses as the fairy princess and DD1 liked the bit with the wig on his date.

  • What did your DCs love best about the day?

They loved everything about it, but being able to see it before other people made them feel very special. I liked the balloon minions, they're great, we have two Carl's, who I hope never pop!

  • What was your overall experience of the screening?

Really plositive, everything ran really smoothly and the kids had a fantastic time with no stress for me!

  • If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Despicable Me 2 to friends and family? Why?

Definitely, have already recommended it to loads of people and my niece was on Facebook as we left the cinema saying how great it was. It must have been good for her to describe it as cool and awesome to her friends!

Thanks Mumsnet for making it happen, we had a great day.

edam · 17/06/2013 22:06

At bedtime, ds said he would like to amend his/my earlier entry:

  • score out of 5: 5.5!
  • favourite part of the film: when Gru falls out of the litter bin
  • favourite character: Kevin the minion
noisytoys · 17/06/2013 22:08
