Help needed to create a Mumsnet Ocado 'bundle' offer (and a chance to win £75)

GeraldineMumsnet · 06/08/2008 11:44

Hi all

You may recall the recent Ocado survey where we asked folks to tell us about their lives in the first few weeks post birth. Using your responses, Ocado is designing a Mumsnet-inspired (and discounted) bundle of products that are perfect to have at home before delivery day comes.

The people at Ocado don't want to assume what your fave brands are, so we need you to nominate them. The brands with the most votes will get included in the final bundle to be sold on www.ocado.com.

We would like to reflect the products you chose in two bundles, one for essentials and the other for luxuries.

Everyone who takes part in this thread will be entered into a prize draw to win £75 to spend at www.ocado.com

Thanks and good luck.

I have a book coming out in two weeks' time which is a guide to baby products and includes lists of essentials for new parents.

I can fairly safely say that many of these essentials, as others have suggested, are just not essential. Toiletries are simply not needed for newborns, talc is not recommended and there is a fair amount of stuff on here which is quite subject to personal choice (e.g. nappies eco vs. standard vs re-usables).

Would it be better to have a tick-list rather than a bundle, so for example you can opt out of nappies if you are using re-usables?

Or maybe they'd be better rethinking this and just sticking with the luxury stuff?

Essential products:

  • Nappies - Pampers or Bambos if they want an eco-option.
  • Dummy - x
  • Colic remedy - not a great idea.
  • Nappy cream - Earth Friendly Baby + Waitrose Bottom Butter (which doubles as wonderful hand cream when your hands get sore after all that post-nappy change hand washing)
  • Baby bath x
  • Baby shampoo x
  • Talcum powder x
  • Cotton wool - Waitrose would be fine.
  • Baby wipes - Nature.
  • Nappy sacks - Nature.
  • Breast pads - Johnson's.
  • Cake - one of those big choc chip cakes they do in Waitrose (real cake co or something similar - they are about £5 and look like home-baked ones and are just delicious!)
  • Biscuits - a big tin of shortbreads to dish out with tea to visitors (indeed perhaps add some extra posh tea bags and decent coffee for visitors?)

Luxury products:

  • Magazine - Junior Pregnancy and Baby plus a choice of popular mags like Red, EasyLiving.
  • Chocolate - Green & Blacks
  • Sweets - none for me, just double the amount of chocolate!
  • Hot drink - Charbonnel hot choc.
  • Cold drink - Evian.
  • Bubble bath - maybe something like Neal's Yard?
  • Hand cream - Bottom Butter see above.

What about adding a common-sense parenting book like What to Expect the first year - or the Best Friends' Guide to the first year or whatever it's called?

Would love to recommend my book for the list but by the time the birth comes it would be too late and not needed!
