Help needed to create a Mumsnet Ocado 'bundle' offer (and a chance to win £75)

GeraldineMumsnet · 06/08/2008 11:44

Hi all

You may recall the recent Ocado survey where we asked folks to tell us about their lives in the first few weeks post birth. Using your responses, Ocado is designing a Mumsnet-inspired (and discounted) bundle of products that are perfect to have at home before delivery day comes.

The people at Ocado don't want to assume what your fave brands are, so we need you to nominate them. The brands with the most votes will get included in the final bundle to be sold on www.ocado.com.

We would like to reflect the products you chose in two bundles, one for essentials and the other for luxuries.

Everyone who takes part in this thread will be entered into a prize draw to win £75 to spend at www.ocado.com

Thanks and good luck.

In general, AmIWhatAndWhy, or on this thread? I haven't used dummies with any of my 3 DSs, so I'd hardly call them an "essential"... And I'm sure if you search the archives you'll find plenty of anti-dummy feeling. My 2 year old made me laugh in the library the other week when a little girl came in with a pink dummy - he pointed and said "Is that a pig mummy?" It did make her look a bit like she had a snout

Housemum · 07/08/2008 14:48

I think that dummies are the sort of thing that you may not want to buy, but unless you are hard-core dummy-hating, I excpect most mums admit that they would consider it if they have a v young baby crying - DDs 1 & 3 had v limited use of a dummy to help settle in early weeks - DD3 is now 7 mths and doesn't use it. DD1 gave hers up at similar time. DD2 never had one and is a resolute thumb-sucker. (Perhaps coincidence).

Swedes · 07/08/2008 14:50

are dummies not now recommended to help against SIDS?

AllBuggiedOut · 07/08/2008 14:59

? Swedes

Washersaurus · 07/08/2008 15:00

Well try to remember this is for an Ocado bundle daaahling, if it is dummies and Johnsons products you want, then maybe Mothercare do a bundle for you?

Cammelia · 07/08/2008 15:01

I didn't put brands, will say Waitrose own for everything if possible.

Magazine would be Junior

edam · 07/08/2008 15:04

Agree with Cammelia EXCEPT for biscuits. A lovely pack of posh biscuits would be very much appreciated. I lived off biscuits and crackers when ds was tiny, struggled so hard with b/f that I very rarely had the chance to actually prepare, cook and eat a proper meal.

Cammelia · 07/08/2008 15:06

Add Duchy totally covered in chocolate ones then

AlexanderPandasmum · 07/08/2008 15:06

Essential products:

  • Nappy cream - Metanium or Drapoline
  • Baby bath - Halos n Horns

  • Talcum powder - wouldn't want or use, no longer recommended?
  • Cotton wool - any sort in ball form, plenty of them
  • Baby wipes - pampers sensitive / nature babies
  • Nappy sacks - any
  • Breast pads - lansinoh
  • Cake - chocolate
  • Biscuits - Foxes

Luxury products:

  • Chocolate - any good quality Belgian/Swiss chocolate
  • Sweets - any
  • Hot drink -
  • Cold drink - organic apple juice
  • Bubble bath - one aimed at new mums
  • Hand cream - soap and glory

Possibly some of that hand hygiene gel stuff (useful for keeping around nappy changing areas etc).

sfxmum · 07/08/2008 15:07

AllBuggiedOut · 07/08/2008 15:14

For me it has nothing to do with snobbery, and everything to do with whether I would part with money for something I don't want. Same goes for colic remedy and talc. I don't want to buy a bundle that has them in as it's unnecessary spending.

Finally - Bio Oil is another good product to add, to help the stretch marks fade!

Am at the dummy hating.

But anyway, heres my moneys worth

Essential products:

  • Nappies - yes very good. Pampers. Have tried just about every brand going and only pampers can do it.
  • Dummy - Although they are used alot, its not something I would expect to see in a package of this kind and I wouldnt class it as an essential. I think its something that parents usually go out and buy beforehand or after if they feel they need them.
  • Colic remedy - I know alot of people that have used it. Isnt it gripe water?
  • Nappy cream - Sudocreme, no question. Can cure a broken leg you know.
  • Baby bath - Making the presumption that the majority of Ocado customers are of the lentil weaving society, I would say no to it but again, lots of new parents do use it so I would say Johnsons bedtime bath stuff (I used it for myself. It smells lovely)
  • Baby shampoo - As above
  • Talcum powder - I wouldnt bother putting it in.
  • Cotton wool - Ocado's own
  • Baby wipes - Ocados own, providing they aren't too watery.
  • Nappy sacks - Ocados own. They have to be really smelly though.
  • Breast pads - I found Avents very good but any with sticky bits on for your bra would be fine.
  • Cake - Absolutely. Chocolate, fresh, cream.
  • Biscuits - Obviously for the hoards of visitors and to scoff during late night feeds. I find ginger biscuits and choc digestives good for dunking.

Luxury products:

  • Magazine - Should be in essentials. A parenting/baby mag.
  • Chocolate - Galaxy would do it for me but again, for the benefit of Ocados type of customer, I would say G&B's.
  • Sweets - Mints of some kind. Ocados own would do it.
  • Hot drink - Should be essential, tea, coffee, hot chocolate.
  • Cold drink - Again, an essential. Red Bull/Lucozade , no errmmmm, cordial of some sort. Ocados own. I personally love fizzy drinks though.
  • Bubble bath - Avents stuff is nice
  • Hand cream - Not really something I use so wouldnt be bothered about it.

How about throwing in some groceries into the essentials.
Like a couple of ready meals, a pizza. Something easy to eat.

And for the luxury I would replace handcream with alcohol.
