Help needed to create a Mumsnet Ocado 'bundle' offer (and a chance to win £75)

GeraldineMumsnet · 06/08/2008 11:44

Hi all

You may recall the recent Ocado survey where we asked folks to tell us about their lives in the first few weeks post birth. Using your responses, Ocado is designing a Mumsnet-inspired (and discounted) bundle of products that are perfect to have at home before delivery day comes.

The people at Ocado don't want to assume what your fave brands are, so we need you to nominate them. The brands with the most votes will get included in the final bundle to be sold on www.ocado.com.

We would like to reflect the products you chose in two bundles, one for essentials and the other for luxuries.

Everyone who takes part in this thread will be entered into a prize draw to win £75 to spend at www.ocado.com

Thanks and good luck.

They have missed out one real essential - a tube of arnica for the sore bits. I'd also like to see a probiotic in their pack to reduce the risk of allergies in the baby.

My luxury items would not have been magazines and sweets but a ready meal, preferably duck. Wouldn't include cakes and biscuits as essentials either - biscuits maybe but not cake. Mine got colic if I ate anything sweet. Didn't have time for baths or hand cream just a quick shower.

Essential products:

  • Nappies depends on size of baby but probably huggies, pampers better for big babies
  • Dummy not first weeks
  • Colic remedy didn't use but would have infacol around
  • Nappy cream sudocrem
  • Baby bath Johnsons
  • Baby shampoo Johnsons
  • Talcum powder didn't use
  • Cotton wool - boots own brand
  • Baby wipes - didn't use but Boots brand if you must
  • Nappy sacks - don't remember
  • Breast pads - don't remember, they were terrible anyway
  • Cake Mrs Crimbles double choc brownies
  • Biscuits jaffa cakes

Luxury products:

  • Magazine who has time?
  • Chocolate gave baby colic
  • Sweets gave baby colic
  • Hot drink drinking chocolate
  • Cold drink Sainsburys elderflower fizzy water
  • Bubble bath E45 bath
  • Hand cream E45

imaginewittynamehere · 08/08/2008 10:19

I would dispute that any of these are essential - I thought you wew supposed to use just water on your baby's skin in the early weeks. I got given a whole load of products (organic) that are still in a cupboard 2 years later. Colic remedy in an essential pack seems ott & dummies interfere with establishin Breast feeding

  • Dummy
  • Colic remedy
  • Baby bath
  • Baby shampoo
  • Talcum powder
  • Baby wipes
imaginewittynamehere · 08/08/2008 10:21

Sorry meant to say I would not include any of the things I listed

EustaciaVye · 08/08/2008 13:17

Agree about arnica. That should be in there.

sagitta · 08/08/2008 13:24

Essential

Nature baby nappies, wipes and bags
Othopaedic dummy - tommy tippee?
Infacol
metanium nappy rash cream, plus sudacrem
no shampoo or talcum
cotton wool, any
Washable breast pads (not avent)
lemon drizzle
ginger nuts - duchy original

Also
Calpol (to have in the cupboard ready for the first jabs)
Paracetamol

Luxury
Magazine - something trashy
Chcolate - green and blacks
sweets - would prefer fruit
hot drink - duchy originals fennel tea
bubble bath ?
Vaseline intensive care dermacare hand cream

I'd add:
box of really nice handkerchiefs
Condoms
Ear plugs

sagitta · 08/08/2008 13:39

I think hand cream is really important by the way - esp for PFB when I washed my hands obssessively and they got really dry. Cakes and biscuits not essential, whereas a nice bottle of wine would be.
And, yes, arnica.

ruty · 08/08/2008 14:10

condoms? After just having a baby? Power to you saggita!

sagitta · 08/08/2008 16:17

Well, the one thing I've learnt is that I DEFINITELY don't want any more - but you never know when the urge might come upon you to have sex again

JulesJules · 08/08/2008 19:46

Essentials:
Nappies - Pampers newborn
Dummy - NO
Colic remedy - NO
Nappy cream - Waitrose Bottom Butter
(Nappy rash cream - Metanium)
Baby bath/shampoo - Avent all in one
Talcum powder - NO
Cotton wool - own brand, white cotton wool tube of discs. Or white balls
Baby wipes - fragrance free
Nappy sacks - own brand
Breast pads - Johnson
Cake - something moist and chocolatey
Biscuits - Duchy Originals, especially ginger

Luxury products:
Magazine - Red, Junior
Chocolate - Bar of Green and Blacks or Lindt Lindor truffles
Sweets - Fruit pastilles or fizzy fish
Hot Drink - Twinings Earl Grey tea
Cold drink - Champagne
Bubble bath - something organic with lavender,(or tea tree and arnica bath oil if such a thing exists!)
Hand cream - L'Occitane or Clarins, or Neutrogena

I would say leave out dummies, colic remedy and talc altogether. There needs to be some chocolate in the essentials list!

twoGsinBuggerOff · 08/08/2008 19:47

oh good point cmotdibbler, waitrose already have a deal with motherease. so i say a motherease sandys bamboo, littlest size and an airflow wrap. (v good nappy and wrap imo.)

cmotdibbler · 08/08/2008 20:13

And I forgot to say that my essential products would be Lanisoh and the giant bumper pack of Always nighttime sanitary pads...

twoGsinBuggerOff · 08/08/2008 21:26

yeah and some of those bedmats you get for soaking up major leakages at night. nice!

theinsider · 08/08/2008 21:29

Nappy cream : metanium

Also agree with twoGs about bedmats. I slept much better for not worrying about leakages. ewww.

twoGsinBuggerOff · 08/08/2008 21:51

are you reading this ocado? PAMPERS BED MATs, we say!

theinsider · 08/08/2008 22:47

Out of the whole "essential" items I used only nappies, cotton wool/wipes and nappy sacks.

Cake and biscuits should be removed from essential and the "chocolate" from luxury should replace it, or at least be there as well as them.

My essential list is:

nappies, wipes, bags, industrial strength sanitary towels, bed mats, chocolate. Oh yes and breast pads, if required.

Regarding brand the chocolate can be cadbury, bourneville, divine, lindt, green and blacks. Any will do. Just "chocolate".
