Help needed to create a Mumsnet Ocado 'bundle' offer (and a chance to win £75)

GeraldineMumsnet · 06/08/2008 11:44

Hi all

You may recall the recent Ocado survey where we asked folks to tell us about their lives in the first few weeks post birth. Using your responses, Ocado is designing a Mumsnet-inspired (and discounted) bundle of products that are perfect to have at home before delivery day comes.

The people at Ocado don't want to assume what your fave brands are, so we need you to nominate them. The brands with the most votes will get included in the final bundle to be sold on www.ocado.com.

We would like to reflect the products you chose in two bundles, one for essentials and the other for luxuries.

Everyone who takes part in this thread will be entered into a prize draw to win £75 to spend at www.ocado.com

Thanks and good luck.

zipzap · 06/08/2008 23:49

Essential products:

  • Nappies - pampers newborn
  • Dummy - NUK orthodontic
  • Colic remedy - never used
  • Nappy cream - metanium (for nappy rash), vaseline for every day
  • Baby bath - Johnsons all in one or Method baby products
  • Baby shampoo - can use the Johnsons all in one or the Method one - just realised you have no baby lotion down - the Method one is really nice
  • Talcum powder - no no no
  • Cotton wool - large packet of reasonable sized cotton wool wipes (like ones you would use for removing eye make up) - and a little plastic dish that fitted them to hold the water
  • Baby wipes - johnsons sensitive (big pack and a travel pack)
  • Nappy sacks - own brand ok, scented! also include a small travel pack size
  • Breast pads - johnsons or lanisoh are both good
  • Cake - not essential
  • Biscuits - plain chocolate McVities Digestives and something plain like ginger nuts or hobnobs

Luxury products:

  • Magazine - parenting magazine that has a nice freebie on
  • Chocolate - large bar(s) of good quality dark chocolate (purely for its health benefits of course!)
  • Sweets - not that bothered, would prefer something savoury like twiglets
  • Hot drink - don't drink personally but maybe some caffeine-free coffee or tea for those breastfeeding that don't want to give a caffeine kick to their baby?
  • Cold drink - Bottlegreen elderflower cordial & a bottle of champagne
  • Bubble bath - Korres shower gel (citrus scent) - not enough time for a bath!
  • Hand cream - Korres sweet almond hand cream - but not really necessary - a good pump liquid hand wash much more useful

Other stuff:
Hand wash - something mild that you can use lots of times a day without your hands getting excema - carex soothing for an everyday option, Korres sweet almond liquid hand soap for the luxury option

getting out - small A5-ish size waterproof 'bag' big enough to hold a couple of nappies, a travel size packet of wipes, travel size of nappy sacks, a pampers or huggies disposable changing mat, small pack of tissues, small tube or tub of cream. I have a couple, one from Eagle Creek, the other from outdoor designs (neither are baby products, just from their ordinary 'organised packing' ranges) that have a zip close and a clip for securing them onto something if necessary. Small enough to put into an ordinary bag rather than have to lug a large changing bag around with you.

for baby - small toy, espcially if it has a loop on so it can be secured to cot/car seat/bouncer etc. Woozits and some of the little einstein and tiny love range are all nice. Also an all-plastic wipeable toy that can be used on the changing mat as a distraction (could also be a teether)

other - packet of calpol sachets - I know you don't need them in the first couple of months but invariably the first time you do need them you don't have them (eg for after first jabs) so would be useful to have just a couple of doses in. And a syringe to give the medicine - the one in the infant neurofen bottle is best as it doesn't have any sharp bits on like the ones you get from the chemist.

    • Kushies make a brushed cotton blanket that is really useful for all sorts of things - a light blanket, a soft towel, a mat to put on the floor, a pram liner, a shade to put over the front of the pram or side of car seat if sunny etc
    • a laminated single page document listing as many different helplines and useful web sites (plus space to add your emergency /useful numbers) - such as breast feeding help lines, NHS direct, mumsnet, etc. Something that will point a sleep deprived new mum in the right direction for advice for all the main issues that might be encountered in the first few weeks - breast feeding (and bottle feeding), sleeping problems, health problems, depression, meeting other new mums, teething, crying, child benefit, tax credits, name registration etc. And of course the ocado details (along with a special new mum's discount or free delivery code ).
  • arnica cream to soothe post-delivery sore bits

  • a couple of years ago a baby mag (sorry, not sure which one) did a fab freebie - a date-free year long calendar with 13 blank month pages on, so you could start with the month your dc was born and get to their first birthday. came with a load of stickers to chart milestones (first smile, first tooth, height, first word etc) as well as some of the more boring things (jab appointments, child benefit reminders) and spaces for your own notes and photos - very easy to fill in as a record of the first year, I'm sure most people mean to but never have time. The stickers helped and would have made it a good thing to do with an older sibling too. Makes a nice keepsake and has good branding opportunties if it is in regular use!

zipzap · 06/08/2008 23:52

Oops. sorry, got a bit carried away there

and have just discovered that you need to put * around each word rather than a phrase if you want it all in bold - was supposed to be Cotton* Wool rather than Cotton Wool... hey ho!

I think like others that lansinoh needs to go on here, also always (or whatever) pads (as that seems to drag on longer than you'd planned) and some lavender oil to get you sleeping when they are rather than hovering over the moses basket in case they stop breathing

You can get liquid talc, that would be good. I didn't use talc till fairly recently and only really at my parents house.

Like the idea of putting green nappies in and about not including dummies. Not everyone uses them and they can undermine breastfeeding.
