Help needed to create a Mumsnet Ocado 'bundle' offer (and a chance to win £75)

GeraldineMumsnet · 06/08/2008 11:44

Hi all

You may recall the recent Ocado survey where we asked folks to tell us about their lives in the first few weeks post birth. Using your responses, Ocado is designing a Mumsnet-inspired (and discounted) bundle of products that are perfect to have at home before delivery day comes.

The people at Ocado don't want to assume what your fave brands are, so we need you to nominate them. The brands with the most votes will get included in the final bundle to be sold on www.ocado.com.

We would like to reflect the products you chose in two bundles, one for essentials and the other for luxuries.

Everyone who takes part in this thread will be entered into a prize draw to win £75 to spend at www.ocado.com

Thanks and good luck.

I love the people who are distancing themselves from dummies and talcum powder. It's hilarious.

Washersaurus · 07/08/2008 13:41

Why is it funny? I doubt they ever used them. Neither of my DC's have had dummies, and I still have 3 bottles of unopened talc that were given to me when DS1 was born 3 years ago!

Housemum · 07/08/2008 13:46

Essential products:

  • Nappies: Pampers
  • Dummy: Mam
  • Colic remedy: Infacol but tbh none were that good
  • Nappy cream: Burts Bees (you get Sudocrem in Bounty stuff so any other make would be better)
  • Baby bath: Nature Babycare
  • Baby shampoo: Nature Babycare
  • Talcum powder: Burts Bees or Nature Babycare (cornstarch not talc so better)
  • Cotton wool: not fussed - organic if poss (didn't use much - used baby flannels for early days changes at home as was doing so much washing anyway)
  • Baby wipes: Nature Baby or Pampers sensitive.
  • Nappy sacks: Nature Baby
  • Breast pads: washable eg Imse Vimse If disposable, Tommee Tippee.
  • Cake: tricky - not chocolate in case it's summer. Biscuits better as can just open and scoff! Viennese whirls.
  • Biscuits: Oops, should have read ahead. (BF whilst typing!( Shortbread fingers.

Luxury products:

  • Magazine: Junior pregnancy and baby
  • Chocolate: Green & Blacks (not dark choc though as everyone knows it's best but not everyone actually likes it!) Or Thortons
  • Sweets: Jelly beans
  • Hot drink: Instant hot choc or Ovaltine
  • Cold drink: Peppermint cordial.
  • Bubble bath: Something spa like - you want to feel "clean" and not too scented.
  • Hand cream: Burts Bees

As you can see I'm a big Burt's Bees fan - first tried it with DD3, the nappy cream is great - smells gorgeous too. Expensive but have hardly used any - she hasn't had nappy rash yet (now 7 months) - so if they'd do small sizes for this they would get more converts I'm sure (only reason I bought the handcream was because I liked the baby stuff so much). The talc is great after a bath - it's cornstarch powder so not carcinogenic? (Unless that's an urban myth like the deodorant ones that go round?)

AmIWhatAndWhy · 07/08/2008 13:48
  • Nappies - Bambo Nature
  • Dummy - MAM
  • Colic remedy - ColicCalm
  • Nappy cream - Neals Yard Baby Barrier
  • Baby bath - Plain Water!
  • Baby shampoo - Plain water, or a little olive oil for bad cradle cap.
  • Talcum powder - Never
  • Cotton wool - I have a phobia of, but surely it's all the same?
  • Baby wipes - Huggies Pure
  • Nappy sacks - none, a small airtight paper bin will do.
  • Breast pads - Mothercare washable
  • Cake - Carrot cake, or anything the DH/P doesn't like so it can all be devoured by the mum.
  • Biscuits - Walkers Shortbread

Luxury products:

  • Magazine - Junior, Guardian Weekly, OK, Take a Break
  • Chocolate - A multipack of mini 'Timeouts'
  • Sweets - Jelly babies, Wine Gums
  • Hot drink - Good strong ground coffee, probably columbian.
  • Cold drink - Elderflower and Raspberry Cordial (sainsburys) over lots of ice
  • Bubble bath - Lush 'comforter'
  • Hand cream - Lush 'Dream Cream'
Swedes · 07/08/2008 13:50

I've never used colic relief or talc or dummies or baby shampoo but I have friends who have needed/used these things. I don't feel the need to personally distance myself from them.

It's Mumsnet at its judgy judgy best isn't it?

AmIWhatAndWhy · 07/08/2008 13:52

Washersaurus I had loads of talc given too, which I passed on on freecycle. It's utterly pointless.

Dummies have their use though, both mine had them for the first couple of months.

Washersaurus · 07/08/2008 13:52

Come off it Swedes, NO ONE really uses talc do they?

AmIWhatAndWhy · 07/08/2008 13:54

My mum uses it on the DC when they are there, because she likes the smell.

I hate the stuff.

Washersaurus · 07/08/2008 13:54

I don't think people are distancing themselves from the other items, but having not used them probably don't feel they are able to recommend any particular brand

Housemum · 07/08/2008 13:56

I had loads of Johnsons talc with my other 2 and never used it (gave to my mum as she uses talc - must be a generation thing as I don't) but this cornstarch talc was lovely after a bath, tiny bit on your hands rubbed onto DD3, particularly round leg creases.

Swedes · 07/08/2008 14:06

If you say "Breast Pads - Not necessary" you are immediately invited to leave Mumsnet. If you name a favourite brand of dummy you are put on a "watch list" for further signs of subversive behaviour.

AmIWhatAndWhy · 07/08/2008 14:09

pmsl Swedes

The first rule of 'Dummy Club'

AllBuggiedOut · 07/08/2008 14:23

So they just want top know what brands of their list we'd want? Here goes...

Nappies Nature

  • Dummy Wouldn't want included
  • Colic remedy Wouldn't want included
  • Nappy cream Earth friendly baby
  • Baby bath Earth friendly baby
  • Baby shampoo Earth friendly baby
  • Talcum powder Wouldn't want included
  • Cotton wool Any flat square pads
  • Baby wipes Simple
  • Nappy sacks Nature
  • Breast pads Tommee tippee
  • Cake Waitrose own
  • Biscuits Green & Blacks, Waitrose own choc covered cookies

Luxury products:

  • Magazine Living, Elle Deco
  • Chocolate Roccoco (dark choc)
  • Sweets Pear Drops
  • Hot drink Cafe Direct filter (red packet)
  • Cold drink Bottle Green cordials
  • Bubble bath Wouldn't want included
  • Hand cream Wouldn't want included

I'm assuming this is a bundle I cold opt to buy (for me or as a gift) - if so, inclusion of those items I've said I wouldn't want included would stop me from buying, unless the discount overall was so substantial as to make it a bargain even if I threw these things away.

AmIWhatAndWhy · 07/08/2008 14:30

Why is there so much anger against dummies?
