With so many different products to choose from and conflicting advice available for every skin type, for some people, it can take a lifetime to find a skincare routine that’s simple, affordable, and most importantly works wonders for your skin. With this in mind, The Nue Co. would like to hear what advice you would give your younger self about skincare and how to maintain a healthy routine.

Here’s what [[https://uk.thenueco.com/discount/mumsnet?redirect=/pages/barrier-culture?&utm_source=partnerships&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=mumsnet&utm_term=sponsoreddiscussion&utm_content=cta
The Nue Co.]] has to say:

“Whether it's uncomfortable bloating, restless nights or low immunity, we could all use a little help sometimes to make life easier. Our supplements for stress, gut health, immunity, skin, sleep and more are clean, proven and sustainable.

Our new launch, BARRIER CULTURE, comprises a cleanser and moisturiser duo, offering a universal, preventative approach to skincare that rebuilds the skin’s barrier, protects against pollution, and reduces plastic waste.

Plus, BARRIER CULTURE is 100% vegan, non-toxic and safe for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding.”

Did you try out hundreds of different products before realising that a simple skincare routine works best for you? Did you swear by an expensive product for years only to find out that a cheaper alternative works just as well? Maybe you only recently discovered that your preferred skincare products were not environmentally friendly? Do you wish you had simply removed your makeup before going to bed? Or perhaps you would tell yourself not worry because you’re still searching for the perfect vegan product for your skin type.

Whatever you wish you could tell your younger self about skincare, all who post on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one lucky MNer will win a £200 voucher for a store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw!

I would tell my younger self to avoid harsh cleansers, drink lots of water, always remove makeup thoroughly and maybe get a good night's sleep once in a while. But mostly I would tell myself that my skin was not as bad as I thought, to stop trying to cover it up and just enjoy myself.

YesIDoLoveCrisps · 05/04/2021 05:08

Wash your make up off properly at night woman! Not with a baby wipe - with a nice product and rinse with water! Grin

VictoriaBun · 05/04/2021 08:11

Always cleanse your make up off at night . Buy a good moisturiser, eat healthy. Use a high spf, and look after your hands.

Muffinpuffin · 05/04/2021 08:14

I would tell my younger self to use sunscreen each day and to moisturise my oily skin rather than over cleanse and strip away all moisture (I suffer from acne). I would have visited a professional dermatologist much earlier on to learn about non invasive treatments too Easter Smile

Cismyfatarse · 05/04/2021 09:50

Moisturise. Sun cream.

Oh, and you are absolutely gorgeous. I suffered so badly from low self esteem about my looks. Now, at 53, I can see I had no reason at all to be ashamed of how I looked.

ursuslemonade · 05/04/2021 12:05

Use more sunscreen.
Leave the spots alone (I've ruined a 5 pence sized area on my face by my nose with brutal blackhead squeezing when I was a teen, it's now permanently red)
Sleep more.
No harsh, stinging products.
More serums and treatments.
Go easy on the eyebrows.

jacqui5366 · 05/04/2021 14:48

Relax your face more - so the frown lines and forehead creases are not as deep in your forties.

ILoveFlumps · 05/04/2021 14:52

I would ensure I started a proper skincare regime much earlier.
Made sure to remove makeup each night. Moisturised religiously, and most of all use a good SPF on my face. Every. Single. Day.

LTsMum1 · 05/04/2021 14:56

Pay attention to hands aswell (spf hand creams) as they are a giveaway of age!

UndeadSlut · 05/04/2021 14:58

Nothing major, but I wish I had got into the habit of doing a skincare routine earlier. I started when I was 34 and realised how easy it was to sort out a multitude of little niggles - flaky skin around the nostrils, blackheads on chin etc with just a few products daily!

pushchairprincess · 05/04/2021 15:25

I would tell myself to do facial exercises in my 20s to help prevent the chin and eye sags.

JulesJules · 05/04/2021 15:45

Wear sunscreen every day

goingpearshaped · 05/04/2021 17:11

Use sunscreen under moisturiser

TheDeckchairGardener · 05/04/2021 21:35

I find it ironic that ‘affordability’ is mentioned considering that the products being advertised are quite expensive!

I was given the advice to wear sunscreen daily when I was a teenager so I’m not really sure what advice would have been useful apart from to be healthy in general. I prefer to buy natural/organic products but am not loyal to any particular products or brands as I have never discovered much difference between them.

salemaxo · 05/04/2021 21:44

To actually start a skincare routine. For the longest time my skin was so smooth that I thought I wouldn't need to use anything so I didn't and that has impacted me now. I don't have the worst skin now but it's not the best.

MotherofTerriers · 05/04/2021 21:48

Wear sunscreen. Use decent quality skincare products. And USE them, sitting on a shelf in the bathroom they do nothing for you at all

jackstini · 05/04/2021 21:57

Drink more water
Remove makeup
SPF
No frowning!

alshareif · 05/04/2021 22:06

I wish I didn't listen to everyone talking about skincare not being important. Moisturiser would have been my friend.

GalaxyGirl24 · 05/04/2021 22:09

I would tell my younger self to manage my relationship with sugar early as my skin (eczema) is very sensitive to it.
Also not to use steroid creams so much as they thinned my skin, and not to scratch (areas of high pigment and damage!)

MParke · 05/04/2021 22:13

I wish I started using silk pillowcases back then. They've been such a lifesaver for my skin. It would have saved me a lot of trouble and tears.

StandUnderMyUmbrella · 06/04/2021 09:54

My daughter is amazing with her skincare routine and her skin is showing the results of that hard work - she has absolutely flawless skin, it makes me so jealous!!
I would definitely tell anyone to not sit in their make up, always take it off and cleanse properly and moisturise. You dont need expensive, fancy stuff, my daughter uses her excema cream on her face (Doublebase) and it does the job!

AudTheDeepMinded · 06/04/2021 13:32

Looking back I wish that I had realised earlier on how important it is to keep your skin properly cleansed at the end of the day, properly moisturised with a product to match your skin type, and how vital protecting your skin from sun damage is. And also that your neck and hand don't magically sort themselves out.

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 06/04/2021 13:35

I'd definitely tell my younger self to use min SPF 50 daily. I'm 43 and it's only a habit I've got into in the past few years but the damage is already done. Same goes for my neck, really wish I'd been my rigorous in applying cream there too.

MadamElderfield · 06/04/2021 15:00

Start with spf and anti-aging skincare earlier - the earlier the better!

MadamElderfield · 06/04/2021 15:00

oh yes, and drink more water!
