With so many different products to choose from and conflicting advice available for every skin type, for some people, it can take a lifetime to find a skincare routine that’s simple, affordable, and most importantly works wonders for your skin. With this in mind, The Nue Co. would like to hear what advice you would give your younger self about skincare and how to maintain a healthy routine.

Here’s what [[https://uk.thenueco.com/discount/mumsnet?redirect=/pages/barrier-culture?&utm_source=partnerships&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=mumsnet&utm_term=sponsoreddiscussion&utm_content=cta
The Nue Co.]] has to say:

“Whether it's uncomfortable bloating, restless nights or low immunity, we could all use a little help sometimes to make life easier. Our supplements for stress, gut health, immunity, skin, sleep and more are clean, proven and sustainable.

Our new launch, BARRIER CULTURE, comprises a cleanser and moisturiser duo, offering a universal, preventative approach to skincare that rebuilds the skin’s barrier, protects against pollution, and reduces plastic waste.

Plus, BARRIER CULTURE is 100% vegan, non-toxic and safe for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding.”

Did you try out hundreds of different products before realising that a simple skincare routine works best for you? Did you swear by an expensive product for years only to find out that a cheaper alternative works just as well? Maybe you only recently discovered that your preferred skincare products were not environmentally friendly? Do you wish you had simply removed your makeup before going to bed? Or perhaps you would tell yourself not worry because you’re still searching for the perfect vegan product for your skin type.

Whatever you wish you could tell your younger self about skincare, all who post on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one lucky MNer will win a £200 voucher for a store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw!

Don't be tempted to squeeze spots! A spot or blemish hardly shows up when other people look at you - get a great big scab and burst oozy red spot really does when you pick at it so much - so just stop!

I would also tell myself that I am beautiful and not to feel like I am not. I wish so many teenagers and young people today could also see how beautiful they are naturally without feeling the need or pressure to have surgery, lip fillers, lash extensions etc I don't mean any of that in a judgemental way but there really is such natural beauty that gets lost when it is covered up or modified.

Oily skin at 15 - nightmare.
Oily skin at 40 - brilliant. Still absolutely no sign of wrinkles.

Definitely wish I'd started using moisturiser earlier than my early 30s though. Or had any kind of routine at all.

Eye cream every day!! And spf every day! I cringe at the damage I've done already for not wearing suntan lotion as a teen

wellingtonsandwaffles · 01/04/2021 21:18

Stop squeezing your spots ! (Tell my current self that too...)

Atalune · 01/04/2021 21:22

Sunscreen
Don’t squeeze spots that are NOT ready to squeeze
Invest in a simple skincare regime and DO IT

I suffered from spots- not quite acne more hormonal chin spots. I finally bought the Clinique 3 step system with the spot treatment little tube thing in my twenties at GREAT expense and it was a bloody revelation!! My skin was so much better so fast. And I don’t think it was because of the products per se, it was more the time and care I was investing in myself.

Lookatthat · 01/04/2021 21:25

That it really is about the basics - always wear suncream, drink plenty of water, and eat healthily. Then your skincare basics of cleansing and moisturising go a lot further.

AgentCooper · 01/04/2021 22:53

Moisturise religiously (neck as well as face). Don’t start smoking. Get into the habit of drinking enough water!

Jdhshekr · 02/04/2021 04:45

I was pretty good at using moisturisers with SPF but I’d tell my younger self to use them religiously every day and to use them on my neck and chest too.

voyager50 · 02/04/2021 09:19

Start using anti-aging products in your twenties - it works!!!

GalOopNorth · 02/04/2021 09:36

Use sunscreen

borntobequiet · 02/04/2021 09:42

Use moisturiser at least occasionally and sunscreen if you’re in the sun. It doesn’t need to be expensive. Don’t fall for marketing nonsense like this.
I’m astonished that basic skincare is now marketed as being non-toxic and safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding. We haven’t seen lead based cosmetics for some centuries, I believe.

Gazelda · 02/04/2021 10:02

Look after your neck. Moisturise beyond your jawline.

ipswichwitch · 02/04/2021 10:44

Use SPF, and moisturise neck as well as face, and stop using harsh exfoliants. And enjoy the fact you have lovely, blemish-free skin, because it’ll all change in the menopause!!

BunnyBonking · 02/04/2021 10:53

To not use sunbeds. I was addicted in my 20's and used them every other day. Also to remove my make-up at night. After a big night out I'd collapse into bed and wake up the following afternoon with lipstick on my arm and eyeliner on my cheeks - I'm sure it wasn't doing my skin any good! :)

bugontree · 02/04/2021 11:21

You should have the botox inbetween your eyebrows!

Started earlier, in 30's, with with retinol, vitamin c and Hyaluronic acid. More sunscreen on arms and chest.

Read on what to eat to keep young skin.

Keep that well paid job to pay for the anti-ageing treatments - they are expensive,.

MrsFrTedCrilly · 02/04/2021 12:00

Don’t waste your money on fancy moisturiser and serums, have the facial go chill you out instead!

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 02/04/2021 12:04

Drink more water, eat more veg, and take my make up off properly with a good cleanse every night. I would also have started using a SPF moisturiser much younger.

MakeTeaNotWar · 02/04/2021 13:22

Wear spf and a brimmed hat and avoid getting sunburnt so much!

CeeceeBloomingdale · 02/04/2021 13:29

That drinking plenty of water and eating well will have much more effect than anything topically applied. Also suncream, every day.

Russell19 · 02/04/2021 19:48

Don't use face wipes!

queenoftheschoolrun · 02/04/2021 22:02

Use sunscreen! And finding the right supplements which work better than expensive skincare products.

sharond101 · 02/04/2021 22:15

I would tell my younger self to protect your face from the sun. The glow is temporary and can be replicated with make up however the wrinkles and sun spots are permanent!

starlingsintheslipstream · 03/04/2021 00:20

As so many others have said, I'd be telling my younger self to use sun cream.

PearorPasta · 03/04/2021 00:31

I'd tell myself not to smoke and to start using anti wrinkle cream at a much younger age!

unforgotten23 · 03/04/2021 08:28

SPF - every day without fail!!!!
