With so many different products to choose from and conflicting advice available for every skin type, for some people, it can take a lifetime to find a skincare routine that’s simple, affordable, and most importantly works wonders for your skin. With this in mind, The Nue Co. would like to hear what advice you would give your younger self about skincare and how to maintain a healthy routine.

Here’s what [[https://uk.thenueco.com/discount/mumsnet?redirect=/pages/barrier-culture?&utm_source=partnerships&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=mumsnet&utm_term=sponsoreddiscussion&utm_content=cta
The Nue Co.]] has to say:

“Whether it's uncomfortable bloating, restless nights or low immunity, we could all use a little help sometimes to make life easier. Our supplements for stress, gut health, immunity, skin, sleep and more are clean, proven and sustainable.

Our new launch, BARRIER CULTURE, comprises a cleanser and moisturiser duo, offering a universal, preventative approach to skincare that rebuilds the skin’s barrier, protects against pollution, and reduces plastic waste.

Plus, BARRIER CULTURE is 100% vegan, non-toxic and safe for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding.”

Did you try out hundreds of different products before realising that a simple skincare routine works best for you? Did you swear by an expensive product for years only to find out that a cheaper alternative works just as well? Maybe you only recently discovered that your preferred skincare products were not environmentally friendly? Do you wish you had simply removed your makeup before going to bed? Or perhaps you would tell yourself not worry because you’re still searching for the perfect vegan product for your skin type.

Whatever you wish you could tell your younger self about skincare, all who post on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one lucky MNer will win a £200 voucher for a store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw!

Use really decent suncream and hats! I spent so much time doing water sports and skiing and was less careful than I should have been and it shows in my skin now

rainbowwelly · 03/04/2021 10:24

Use SPF, look up sebaceous filaments they aren't blackheads, moisturise, more SPF, even more SPF and SPF!

jellybeanpopper · 03/04/2021 10:29

Drink more water

jellybeanpopper · 03/04/2021 10:31

Wear sunscreen. I grew up on the equator, it was hot and sunny all year long. We swam outdoors a few times a week. Sunscreen was not the norm, I didn't start using it until I became and adult and moved abroad

PeacheyPeach · 03/04/2021 11:55

I would tell my younger self to be comfortable in her own skin. That she was pretty and lovely and her bright fresh face was something to be looked after not to be covered up.
I would also tell her to always take her makeup off before she went to bed!

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 03/04/2021 14:30

Keep your skin care regime simple but entirely regular!

Stargirl84 · 03/04/2021 14:40

Go on the pill earlier to regulate hormones and prevent acne scarring.

Lurleene · 03/04/2021 14:45

One day you will learn to love your freckles so don't waste your time trying to bleach them away with lemon juice.

Dilbertian · 03/04/2021 14:56

Moisturise your décolletage.

My face is lovely (if I say so myself Grin) but my collarbone-upper chest area has aged much faster. Moisturise. Moisturise. Moisturise.

Olinguito · 03/04/2021 15:42

Start moisturising and using sun block earlier, and include neck and hands. Don't hide young skin under heavy foundation.

AdoraBell · 03/04/2021 15:50

I would tell my younger self -

Ignore your parents, you do need sunblock every day and don’t mess around trying different recommendations of brands and products, Clarins works best for you.

Use Moisturiser and sunblock on neck and décolletage as French women do.

CatRatSplat · 03/04/2021 17:17

Moisturiser on the excema and don't cover it up. Would love to have known what we do about looking after excema.

5128gap · 03/04/2021 17:17

To not worry about getting older, as due to changing to an excellent diet, exercise and good skin care regime at 50, by 52 you will have the best skin of your life.

SheldonesqueIsAlmostHuman · 03/04/2021 18:11

Sunscreen
Water
Remember your neck and bib.
Do not smoke.

Do not go living it large down Nissi Beach in the day and Ayia Napa square at night. Cocktails are not a necessary fluid. Kebabs are not a vegetable.

Unless on exercise or on the ranges, you’d have been better served wearing your helmet over your face.

And to my teen self - you were ok you know. You didn’t have to clart yourself in make up. Pan stick was not compulsory. Nor were peach kernels to scrape it off.

And don’t let your other half’s mam pin you down on the sofa to squeeze your nose. Especially not that hard that your unsqueezed bit of face got pushed out the back of your head.

julieandertoninthewarehouse · 03/04/2021 21:00

I'd say - enjoy what you have. Be happy in your own skin. because life is far too short, as you'll find out. And drink less alcohol!

biffyboom · 03/04/2021 21:41

Please don't use sunbeds and please use facial sunscreen- just because you don't burn doesn't mean you aren't damaging your skin.

TableNiner · 04/04/2021 10:00

Acne is a medical problem, don't try to fix it yourself with endless over the counter 'cures'

lovemyflipflops · 04/04/2021 10:35

Wear sunglasses, drink water, always choose a moisturiser with a spf

icanbewhatiwant · 04/04/2021 11:03

Moisturise neck too...not just my the face!!

TechnoDino · 04/04/2021 13:33

To wear sunscreen every day, and a hat in the sun.
And to look after my neck and chest, too..

stressbandit · 04/04/2021 14:48

Stop squeezing the skin so hard and no picking!

picklemewalnuts · 04/04/2021 17:56

Use as little as you can- don't mess with what isn't broken!

Use simple, minimal products that don't interfere with your natural skin type.

Above all, don't strip the skin of natural protection and then slap on oils and creams to make up for it.

79lauren79 · 04/04/2021 19:03

Occasionally miss the nights out drinking and in smoky pubs, your skin and bank balance will thank you for a few less drinks

picklemewalnuts · 04/04/2021 19:26

View it as a treat and luxury for yourself, not a chore like teeth cleaning.

Theimpossiblegirl · 04/04/2021 20:22

Drink more water, use more sunblock.
