Whether you’re purchasing for your own baby or as a gift for a loved one, selecting newborn baby clothes can be a really special experience. However, there can be a lot to consider, so in celebration of their new organic cotton newborn range, Baby Boden would like to hear what’s important to you when choosing baby clothes.

Here’s what Boden has to say: “Baby Boden is excited to share its brand new newborn organic cotton range. In a selection of aww-inspiring designs with Boden signature details, the new collection is made from snuggly soft organic cotton which is kinder to the planet and gentle on the softest of skin.

The collection features snuggly zip-up sleepsuits, bodies in packs of 3, reversible styles, dresses, hats, dungarees, and also gift sets ranging from 4 to 7 pieces, which all come in a matching fabric bag or a beautiful Baby Boden gift box - perfect for gifting new parents who are expecting a new arrival. The whole range is machine washable, and carefully constructed with the safety and comfort of little ones in mind so you don’t have to worry.”

Do you put a lot of thought into the fabric of your baby’s clothes, perhaps preferring organic cotton? Is it important to you that your baby’s clothes are as soft as possible? Perhaps your clothing choices are influenced by the fabric’s effect on your baby’s skin? Or are you most interested in the washability and longevity of your choices? Maybe you’re most interested in the placement of poppers, buttons or zips, to ensure it’s convenient when you need to do a swift nappy change?

All who share what they believe to be most important when purchasing baby clothes will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £200 Boden voucher.

Thanks and good luck!

Soft cotton, or a soft wool for certain items of clothing.
Organic is good but TBH I couldn't afford it when DD was a baby.
Ease of putting on/off.
Cute designs that aren't annoyingly gendered. I especially liked the kawaii Japanese-style animal/veggie design ones I got from family.
Things that can be chucked in the washing machine.
Avoidance of child labour.

I look for softness, ease of dressing and undressing and nice patterns and prints where possible. If organic, even better, but it's not my top priority.

The most important aspects to me are organic cotton - absolute must! Also no thick itchy labels or areas of too much embroidery which could stain.

natural materials like cotton or bamboo - not scratchy and thought given to practicality like wide necks and easy to access nappy change area etc.

Mainly ease of getting the baby in and out. Soft materials and nice patterns.

Needs to be:
Cotton, soft to the touch and have no scratchy zips or buttons that will harm or irritate babies skin.
Stylish, needs to be stylish, cute & age appropriate
Durable, so will last lots of washes AND tumble drying

I love neutral colours, there seems to be a lack of good looking baby clothes around that aren't pink or blue. This isn't just for gender issues like not knowing if you will have a boy or girl but this is a matter of style! We can have cute prints and designs like geometric shapes or little images of cute things but it seems we have such an overload of sheep, bunnies and pigs and not forgetting winnie the bloody pooh.
I'd like to hand down my lovely baby clothes too so this actually saves a lot of the worlds clothing waste, we can easily pass on to others the neutral and cool looking baby clothes we sometimes find our loved little ones barely even wear before growing out of them.
Comfort and material aside, these are obvious...the look matters and i'd happily design some myself if anyone wants ideas. (self taught illustrator and designer here)
maybe someday you'll find my ideas out there.
suuuuper bored of finding the same old styles of baby clothing.

Soft natural fabric, practical to get on and off, no uncomfortable bits to dig in or ride up, and gender neutral/non-stereotyping designs. Also not too expensive as will soon be grown out of.

I want something that is easy to get on and off, babies go through so many sets of clothes especially when there are poonamis! I I want something I can whip off quickly and in a fabric that doesn't stain easily.

The use of organic materials, clothes made sustainably and made to last using a transparent supply chain. I'm happy to spend more on clothes I know will last more than one child, and prefer options to be brightly coloured and not obviously gendered.

Softness, nothing that could rub or chafe (like rough seams), machine washable, hard wearing and (once weaning starts) definitely no pale colours!

Easy to wash, not fiddly to undo and do up and soft on the skin

Fun, gender neutral designs that are practical. Can go down the body (wide neck) in case of a poo disaster for newborns! I love multicoloured stuff for boys - so much out there is brown/orange/dark blue and sludge green. So miserable. Also I don’t love that boys stuff is covered in cars and diggers and girls get all the animals and flowers! Sort of sucks that my son is pushed in one direction before he can even share his opinions. I love animal and space designs, the farm/garden Boden stuff is so cute! Love the dinosaurs and animals too.

They have to wash well, as they’re going to be washed a fair bit! Especially if you hope to pass them on to other children.

On sleepsuits the buttons need to go down the middle. Some just have buttons at the legs and bottom and you have to pull it over the baby’s head, which is such as a hassle especially for pooplosions.

Might not seem essential, but varied colours and patterns are also a big determinant of what I buy.

Must be 100% cotton.

Bright and colourful designs, bold and playful
Ease of putting on- the suits that open wide at the neck are handy. Buttons at the back of the neck are rubbish.
Easy to change nappies- no taking off dungarees completely
Unisex
Soft, stretchy materials
Touches like cuffs that you can fold over so they last for 2 sizes
