Keeping your children’s skin happy can be difficult, particularly during the winter months. With that in mind, La Roche Posay would like to hear about your skincare tips this winter.

Here’s what La Roche Posay has to say: “We know winter can be tough on the skin, especially for the little ones. Cold, windy weather outside combined with central heating and lack of humidity inside can weaken the protective layer of the skin, causing it to lose natural moisture. It is key to take extra care of your family’s sensitive skin and protect it during this time of the year. We would love to hear about your winter skin routine and how you keep your children’s skin soft and comfortable during these months.”

Do you have a winter skincare routine for your children? Perhaps you have tips on how to increase humidity in your child’s room or you keep an emergency moisturiser in your bag at all times? Does La-Roche-Posay feature on your family’s skincare routine?

Whether you have a ten step dedicated winter skincare routine or you’re the ‘moisturise and call it a day’ type, we want to hear all about it.

All who post on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one lucky MNer will win a £200 voucher for a store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw!

Aveeno is brilliant for children’s skin. I keep them wrapped up warm in the winter otherwise their skin gets very dry.

Purplemirror · 23/01/2021 17:01

I always keep a thick balm type moisturiser or barrier cream in the car when we are out in cold for my sons face. Then a face moisturiser for night time before bed. These seem to help but he still has a dry face in the depths of winter.

Ange211 · 23/01/2021 17:32

Vaseline on faces as a barrier before going out into the cold is a huge help.

OnlyToWin · 23/01/2021 20:18

In winter they need extra moisturising products to protect against the cold weather and the drying heating, so I use these.

BlueSussex · 23/01/2021 21:24

My son has eczema and so I have always had to be really careful about his skin. E45 is useful, especially on wrists, elbows and backs of knees.

Ratbagratty · 23/01/2021 22:05

I've had to start using a high based oily petronium cream on daughter's excema, it works but it has to be typed up daily. Not tried la-roche-posey, but will see if it had the right ingredients when I see it.

buckley1983 · 24/01/2021 00:21

Goodness.. reading this makes me thing I should have more of a routine for my son's skin! Fortunately - his skin looks very healthy, although he has had dry skin in the past - I noticed it would flare up after swimming & if I used bath foam in his bath. We steer clear of bath foam now & always shower & moisturise directly after swimming (although not done this in recent months for obvious reasons!) which has helped.
I've found using natural products really helps, dressing appropriately for weather & keeping an out for any dry patches or redness works well for us.
Also - ensuring little man is drinking plenty of water & eating a balanced diet.

Hand and lips get chapped in my home - down to all the hand washing and sanitising at the moment, and being indoors with the heating on.
We use lip balm and I have a vitamin E hand cream for dry chapped hands.
I will add a little baby oil into the bath, and feel that helps with dryness too.

MakeTeaNotWar · 24/01/2021 09:55

Lip balm for lips, make sure baths are not too hot then slick them up with moisturiser afterwards. Also encourage hydration

TreacleHart · 24/01/2021 12:34

Mine only wear natural fibres against the skin ( but not wool )
Keep hands and keep warm with bamboo socks and gloves.
I also feel that their skin is better without daily baths as it allows the skin to develop its natural defences.
On the irritated areas we tend to ' cycle ' the skin creams that suit them best.
By this I mean we will use them for a few weeks each in rotation as it seems to suit the skin by doing so .

problembottom · 24/01/2021 13:00

My daughter is prone to eczema on her back and chest. I find bathing her only every two or three nights stops her skin from drying out. She also gets an application of La Roche Posay baby balm when she wakes up and when she goes to bed. No flare ups so far this winter...

Sethy38 · 24/01/2021 13:10

@GraceEMumsnet

When will the draw take place?

bettertimesarecomingnow · 25/01/2021 01:19

Dd only has a shower every two days or her skin dries out.

We were lucky enough to trial some LRP sensitive skin shower stuff and moisturisers and it was a game changer. Her skin is so much improved and even if she has a flare up it's quickly resolved.

We tend to find that central heating doesn't help so keep her room cool and go easy on the fabric conditioner with her clothes.

Lastly she began taking her own soap to school - a dove hand wash as the cheap classroom soap was stripping her hands til they were red raw. That made a huge difference

BoomyBooms · 25/01/2021 11:15

Bath with skin sensitive products that have as few chemicals and preservatives as possible, and moisturise twice a day with a natural irritant-free moisturiser.

IWouldBeSuperb · 25/01/2021 12:47

I moisturise my baby's skills daily as it's really sensitive and this prevents ezcema outbreaks.

I have also found a smear of bepanthen great for preventing sore skin around the mouth caused be cold weather/heating/licking lips!

ISBN111 · 25/01/2021 14:44

Just coming on to agree with others that children don’t need to bathe as regularly as adults. Once out of nappies, a weekly bath with daily flannel washing is fine.

Winter; keep emollients to hand for cheeks getting dry and sore. And lipbalm.

I do get my child to wear wool as it is so much warmer than synthetic fabrics. He wears long sleeved high necked t shirts underneath. If possible I go for merino wool for handknits as this is less prickly.

fishnships · 25/01/2021 19:03

Thanks to Mumsnet I have discovered La Roche Posay's Lipikar Baum cream. I love their effaclar blur foundation, so wanted to try this cream and it is brilliant! I now keep a big bottle for those times when skin becomes dry or itchy. We all use it, not just for kids Smile

JofraArchersFastestBall · 25/01/2021 19:34

My children are prone to eczema, more so in winter.
I bath them less often, and put colloidal oatmeal and coconut oil in the water when I do. Then moisturise straight after every bath - la Roche posay is good, with diprobase ointment or similar for any really dry patches.

susan1983uk · 25/01/2021 19:43

My daughter has mild eczema and was prescribed a topical lotion as a baby. I always ensure that I cream her with the same lotion after her bath so that her skin is nice and moisturised.

DrydenAird · 25/01/2021 20:02

Since mine were babies, I've noticed that too much bathing dries out their skin. Unless they're clearly filthy/mud-covered/stinking they don't need a bath/shower every day!

Love2cycle · 25/01/2021 20:38

I love aveeno products, but don't have any particular routine. Just as and when needed.

Caityboo · 26/01/2021 07:57

I use sudacrem when the kids get sore noses or chapped skin put it on before bed redness gone in morning

TellMeItsNotTrue · 26/01/2021 08:40

With eczema and dry skin running through the family we usually moisturise before bed / after bath or shower

We use doublebase and dermol shower/bath plus cream at the moment but I'll look into this now I've heard about it

racheltravel17 · 26/01/2021 09:57

Part of our routine is for our daughter not to bath too often as makes her skin so dry, especially in the winter months. After a bath, we don’t rub her dry - she wraps the towel around her and dries slowly. Once dry, we use Child’s Farm moisturiser - love the smell and so kind to skin - she likes a little massage with it.

sheebasima · 26/01/2021 10:12

I put coconut oil in the bath every night to keep skin supple and E45 on during the day.
