Lyme Regis in Dorset, it's just lovely there and the Jurassic coast is stunning.

lovemyflipflops · 25/07/2020 10:22

We loved going to Morecambe as children, lots to do, and a quintessential seaside town - deckchairs, ice creams and amusements !

torthecatlady · 25/07/2020 11:07

Dh and I love Edinburgh. It is absolutely beautiful any time of year and there is loads to see and do.

NobbyButtons · 25/07/2020 14:50

We've enjoyed visiting Woolacombe (huge beach and great body-boarding), Bude (sea swimming pool), the New Forest (ponies liven up the walks), Northumberland (good beaches with no litter in sight, and less busy than the SW), caves in the Yorkshire Dales, Jurassic Coast (fossil hunting), the Lake District and Dumfries and Galloway.

PashleyB · 25/07/2020 16:14

We've had some lovely holidays inthe Lake District- my favourite thing is going on a boat on Coniston and having an ice cream overlooking the lake.

TrueNorthStrong · 25/07/2020 16:30

Cornwall: sun, sea, fields and sky. When were there we don't want for anything.

dadshere · 25/07/2020 16:53

We love Cornwall and Devon, both have great beaches and lots for families to do, Cornwall shades it though because it is more dog friendly.

Our family favourite is Great Yarmouth in Norfolk. I use to go every year when growing up. It reminds me of being a child and it holds such simple and fun memories of my childhood with my parents and grandparents.

I would love to take my family to Cornwall. It's looks picture postcard amazing!

IWasThere4Aug12 · 25/07/2020 20:45

Lots of happy childhood memories of summer holidays in Devon and Cornwall but if I could go anywhere right now it would be the Lake District. Specifically Keswick & Derwent Water - I do miss the mountains!

SingingWaffleDoggy · 25/07/2020 23:45

We are lucky enough to live on the Jurassic coast. The scenery is amazing, Charmouth beach is lovely, Lyme Regis always feels like you’re on holiday, Sidmouth is also a busy seaside destination with a few shops etc and great walks, Exmouth has sandy beaches as far as the eye can see as does Weymouth, Portland is a mix of military, industry, posh yachts and beautiful views, Lulworth and Durdle Door are beautiful. Then we’ve got Dartmoor a short drive away. So we can holiday from home on days off.
We love north Cornwall for short breaks but are looking at the New Forest for our next one. Further afield I do love Scotland but don’t fancy driving all that way with a toddler or flying/ going by train with the cost of a hire vehicle at the other end.

My favourite holiday was in Torquay. We stayed in a yurt in a wood. Campfires, trips to the toilet in our wellies, cutting wood for the log burner. We all loved it!
As well as the surroundings, the actual town and seaside is beautiful.
The kids still talk about it now and even love reminiscing about the lunch we stopped for in a beefeater on the way! Grin

Dorset...gorgeous countryside and coastline.

lucie82 · 26/07/2020 11:44

We have a few favourites in our family! We love Scarborough if we want a lovely beach! Our recent holidays have been spent up at Berwick upon Tweed and in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales near Settle!

The Isle of Wight. We don't have a car and the Isle is so easy to get to by public transport. We would go there because it was ideal for when our daughter was small. We went to Sandown in the east twice, in a caravan, within growling distance of the tigers at the zoo. The beach at Sandown is sandy, and we had great times there. It also has a pier and a dinosaur museum which was cool. In Shanklin is tons to do for the kids including crazy golf! We'd take the train or bus to Ventnor, Carisbrooke castle and Osborne House. Bracing Roman Villa was awesome too.

About three years ago we stayed in a lovely beachside fishing cottage just outside Yarmouth, and explored that side of the island. It's less crowded that side. We bussed it down to the Needles and Black Gang Chine. It was beautiful and oddly stuck in the 1950s, but charmingly so. We made sand sculptures. We also went to a farm and fed the lambs, and had a day out at Amazon world.

I love the Isle of Wight, so much to do with the kids and lovely scenery, and the food is lovely too! I would always go back.

(I promise I am not working for the IOW tourist board. I just really like going there Smile)

Heismyopendoor · 26/07/2020 15:50

Argyll! So beautiful and the people have always been so welcoming.

Wowthisisreal · 26/07/2020 19:47

We actually used to go to Parkdean (or Weststar back then) holidays when we were younger in Dorset and Cornwall but my favourite place to go on holiday is Devon! Good distance from where we live and has lovely medieval towns, national parks, sandy beaches, quaint villages and lovely harbour towns!

evespudding · 27/07/2020 10:20

St Ives, St David's and Lyme Regis are all special to our family. Beautiful beaches, lovely independent eateries and little streets to potter in.

Danascully2 · 27/07/2020 13:27

Rhossili bay in Wales is stunning, I have lots of family memories of holidays to Scotland and spending a day in the mountains walking through the heather with hardly anyone around. We live quite rurally now though so also like a city break - would love to go back to Edinburgh one day.

becca3210 · 27/07/2020 13:33

Penzance and St Ives in Cornwall. Beautiful walks, friendly pubs and lovely beaches

Hopezibah · 27/07/2020 16:18

We love Bath and Bristol for City Breaks. Once visited Leeds too and that would be great for a city break. For beaches Devon and Cornwall are just stunning - especially slightly out of season when quieter. And for countryside Lincolnshire, Shropshire, and Wiltshire are all great places to visit. Missing our travels this year.

Candyflosscookie · 27/07/2020 16:53

We love the west coast of Scotland, and the islands. Arran, Mull, Islay are all so beautiful and lots to do.

foxessocks · 27/07/2020 18:12

Too many places to list really but we visit Bristol a lot as family there and there's so much to see and do we still haven't done it all

1wella · 27/07/2020 18:22

Pembroke in West Wales is our family favourite. Fabulous clean sandy beaches with lovely coastal walks. It's great for children and adults with so much to see and do. The shops and restaurants are great and family friendly.

MrsVeryTired · 27/07/2020 18:59

Whitby, we try and get there every summer, unfortunately not this year due to Covid but hopefully next year. Friendly locals, dog friendly cafes and child friendly pretty much everywhere. We usually book a cottage for a week and have stayed in several areas of Whitby, all great. Have lovely memories of taking my old dog for walks along the cinder path. Prefer to go in summer but have also been in Oct holidays and pleasantly surprised with weather. Would like to visit Harrogate for a stay some time.

popsydoodle4444 · 27/07/2020 19:01

Scarborough;we love it up there;we often stay at Clayton bay,we've been there several times,in October,May,July and August so in different weathers.

We love the beaches up that way and the easy access to places like Whitby,Filey,Bridlington etc
