Family skincare tips shared with La Roche-Posay

Keeping your family’s skin healthy can be difficult, particularly once the winter chill sets in. With that in mind, La Roche-Posay would like to hear about the skincare tips you have.

Here’s what La Roche-Posay has to say: “Extreme temperatures, a lack of humidity in the air and even strong wind can weaken the protective layer of the skin, causing it to lose natural moisture. This is why you tend to notice even more dry or sensitive skin in winter. It is key to pay attention to these signs and take extra care of your family’s skin during this time of the year. We would love to understand what winter skin concerns you and your family have, and how you are dealing with them”

Do you have a skincare routine that works for the whole family? Maybe you have ‘hero’ products that seem to do everything for everyone? Does La Roche-Posay feature on your family’s skincare routine? Perhaps you have tips on things to avoid to keep your skin healthy?

Whatever your family skincare tips, share them below to be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for the store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

Sorry, magnesium!

Sensitive skin needs TLC so SPF 50 sunscreen is a must in our household, followed with a gentle hydrating daily moisturiser.

wellingtonsandwaffles · 06/03/2020 09:28

Fewer baths, natural products, Vaseline if needed, let DC put on their own creams and seek medical support if needed! Some very helpful prescribed stuff out there.

pushchairprincess · 06/03/2020 13:20

Anthelios Dermo-Pediatrics Lotion SPF50 in the Summer - they can play out all day, and i feel confident I am protecting them, and La Roche-Posay Baby Lipikar AP+ Syndet Body Wash for bathing, I can use it on my new born and 4 year old, no need for several bottles and skin looks and feels clean and healthy.

I use Pure Potion on DD's eczema prone inside elbows and backs of knees even when there's no redness, in winter, to compensate for central heating dry air.
I got DH tea tree face cream, which he uses having never used any moisturiser ever.

Not over-washing
drinking lots of water
exfoliation (me)
sunscreen
spray dry oil has been good
Colloidal oatmeal similarly good
I use a shower oil which is excellent

AlliKaneErikson · 06/03/2020 22:23

Myself and both dc have dry and sensitive skin, so we only use in scented, as far as possible. DD can only have oil type sunscreen, as she’s allergic to the ‘cream’ types.
We find Aveeno is great- we’ve never tried la Roche-Posay products, but I’ll give it a go after reading this thread.

Suncream in summer - and we have found a roll on one that the children can manage to apply themselves when at school.

Gynlais · 07/03/2020 14:30

Dove soap for the whole family, no shower gel. Vaseline lip balm, Aveeno moisturiser and sunscreen.

pinkjjf27 · 07/03/2020 14:36

I really suffer with skin issues in my family and really struggle to deal with them, I have yet to find anything that is good for all of us. I Aveeno, E45 and for this kids and Balneum and o'keeffes for me they help a bit but in the winter and very hot summers my skin bleeds and I really struggle to find anything that works I havent tried La Roche-Posay but frankly I have wasted so much money on all these creams that claim to work and nothing does so I am redundant to keep trying new creams. I use sunblock all year around

OnlyToWin · 07/03/2020 17:28

Sunscreen in summer and a moisturiser with SPF 15 all year round. We encourage the teens to take their make up off and wash their faces properly but tbh I have been known to sleep in make up myself - I survived!

Binkybix · 07/03/2020 18:04

My children (especially my daughter) get very dry hands in winter (for which we use aveeno) and are both very sensitive to sun creams in the summer.

I started using SPF 50 Roche Posay Anthelios cream for my own skin to fight wrinkles. I then had the idea to try it on my kids and it’s great - full protection with no reaction.

We are moving to somewhere where they’ll need year round sun protection soon and I’m going to stock up!

HRoosevelt · 07/03/2020 20:07

RP effaclor duo good for my slightly spotty prone skin, kids get oilatum or epaderm epaderm moisturiser

glasgowLil · 07/03/2020 21:40

I’ve found that dermol lotion and aqueous cream really help both mine and my daughter’s skin. And sun cream in the summer.

Buggedandconfused · 08/03/2020 00:28

My daughter gets dry skin so we all use Sanex Zero shower gel. She uses Aveeno oat body moisturiser and I use an Aldi low fragranced one. My son gets dry hands in the winter so he uses a Sainsbury’s own brand hand cream.
I love La Roche Posay products but they are a little out of my price range but we do have Cicaplast for very dry patches and scars.

DennisTMenace · 08/03/2020 07:39

My kids are still little, so don't need to have a daily bath, I try to avoid for them as drying. I add bubbles to the water instead of directly to the skin. Hair washing is always a battle! In summer spf 30 or 50 depending on how long we are outside for. I try to avoid petrochemicals, parabens and SLS, but if it is in sun cream or toothpaste then I feel the benefits outweigh the risks.

Fr0g · 08/03/2020 08:12

Castor oil in the bath, rubbing alcohol as a hand sanitizer

Smellophant87 · 08/03/2020 08:47

Nipple cream for all skin issues - nappy rash, chapped lips, dry skin... it's the best!

Jess827 · 08/03/2020 10:32

Wash less. Yes, I'm serious. Babies and toddlers don't need a full, chemical laden bath every night unless they're actually filthy. Why we ignore dermatology advice and bathe delicate skin too often as the norm is beyond me. If anyone in our family have skin problems it can usually be helped by skipping a bath and being extremely kind, wash with simple soap and water, gentle towels, no scrubbing. E45 or similar if chapped in winter.

That's it.

Less is more.

JulesJules · 08/03/2020 15:13

Sunscreen in the summer - I keep it by the front door so we remember to put some on before leaving the house. I keep a couple of mini ones, and sunscreen lipbalm, in my bag.
We use soap rather than shower stuff.
My favourite luxury is Nuxe oil

ButterflyBitch · 08/03/2020 15:43

Regular moisturising. Sunscreen in the summer. Not bathing as often though now my son is older he is needing to shower more! Stinky beast that he is Grin

Mumonamission01 · 08/03/2020 17:53

My biggest skin care tip for a family is consistency. My skin type is very dry, my partners is sensitive and my 3 year old daughter is normal. In summer we all wear different sun creams, In winter we all need different moisturisers! Its finding the time and making it apart of the every day routine

Dontsayfuckorbugger · 08/03/2020 20:03

Having 3 teenage DC in the house and an hormonal wreck of a mother we rely on spot treatments like they are going out of fashion. The spot patches are great to use overnight as is the La Roche Posay soothing repairing balm

ironicname · 08/03/2020 20:28

We all use the Cocaplast Baume in the winter to see off any dry or chapped skin. It's also great slathered all over my hands before bed.

It is great on the children's lips before bed too, can soothe red sore and flakey lips instantly.

Isitandwatchastearsgoby · 09/03/2020 08:05

We use child’s farm products all through the year but children do have an additional la Roche Posay baume on their faces before going out in the cold. I try to use a thicker moisturiser and lots of lip balm.
