Family skincare tips shared with La Roche-Posay

Keeping your family’s skin healthy can be difficult, particularly once the winter chill sets in. With that in mind, La Roche-Posay would like to hear about the skincare tips you have.

Here’s what La Roche-Posay has to say: “Extreme temperatures, a lack of humidity in the air and even strong wind can weaken the protective layer of the skin, causing it to lose natural moisture. This is why you tend to notice even more dry or sensitive skin in winter. It is key to pay attention to these signs and take extra care of your family’s skin during this time of the year. We would love to understand what winter skin concerns you and your family have, and how you are dealing with them”

Do you have a skincare routine that works for the whole family? Maybe you have ‘hero’ products that seem to do everything for everyone? Does La Roche-Posay feature on your family’s skincare routine? Perhaps you have tips on things to avoid to keep your skin healthy?

Whatever your family skincare tips, share them below to be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for the store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

Dermol lotion for eczema.

gingerninja1808 · 02/03/2020 14:16

We don't have a family skincare routine as such, but two of my kids and myself do get dry skin so we keep a big tub of emollient cream in the bathroom and we all use that after a shower!

moom54 · 02/03/2020 16:55

Always use a moisturiser with a combined SPF, every day come rain or come shine!

1wokeuplikethis · 02/03/2020 21:06

My children have eczema flare ups in the winter so we slather them in Vaseline body lotion each night and oilatum in their bath helps. My son has moscullum contagiousum and we can’t do anything for that but they get so sore and itchy, again reach for the original Vaseline and slather them.

Sudocreme is a staple in our house: used on sore bits for the kids and me, spots for me and my husband and as a barrier when my son is really sore with his MC.

My kids need to use hydrocortisone cream nightly, but the stand out fix all skincare saviour of the cupboard is without a doubt Elizabeth Arden 8hr cream. It’s used daily on all the family; lips, weepy cuts, dry skin, wrinkly elbows (me) sunburn, hangnails, red dry face spots the kids always seem to pick up and ingrown hairs. It fixes almost everything and a little smidge goes a really king way which is great because it’s frickin expensive!!

So they are my fix-all’s for everyone:
Vaseline body lotion (yellow one)
Vaseline
Oilatum
Sudocreme
8hr cream

Always use sunscreen

Duchessofealing · 02/03/2020 21:23

Always sun cream and always moisturiser and hand cream - especially in winter.

My hero is definitely the Effaclar , growing up and throughout my teen years I always had amazing skin , until my late 20’s -early 30’s when I developed adult acne. After spending £££ and trying pretty much every product available out there I bought the 3-step kit without holding much hope . It took me around a year of using it two times a day and I got the point where I don’t need to wear foundation anymore. Definitely a God sent and I recommend it to everyone now so my many thanks to La Roche-Posay , keep sorting people’s confidence out 👍

Use at least a Factor 50 Sun cream even if it's not very hot, and don't forget lips, neck and hands, plus any other skin that is on show. I use products specifically for my skin type and age and only use mild products on the children. Don't forget to keep hydrated too

JC4PMPLZ · 03/03/2020 08:10

Soap and water does it. Am a convert to high SPF UVA suncreams for the DC.

APeakyBlinder · 03/03/2020 08:15

La Roche-Posay Cicaplast is a hero, my son calls it "mummy's magic cream"- he gets irritant contact dermatitis on his face (when it comes into contact with something acidic, tomato's etc) and amazingly Cicaplast takes the redness away almost immediately. It keeps my skin happy after using retinol etc. Basically, we use it anytime skin seems unhappy!!

I love all my lotions and potions but we keep it simple with my child. Gentle wash all year round and SPF in the summer. When it's very cold my daughter in particular gets quite dry. She pinches some of my cicaplast baume that I bought to use after overdoing it with vit A. Works a treat!

cooperage · 03/03/2020 10:41

I've been a devoted fan of LRP since the DC were babies.

Student DD suffers with winter eczema flare-ups in her cold and damp student house and Cicaplast balm + Lipikar are her saviours. My hands and lips get very dry in the overheated office so I always have Xerand hand cream and Cicaplast lip balm on my desk.

Ski-mad DS uses Antihelios XL stick on his face when skiing.

In summer I use a different brand on my face that seems to be better at preventing age spots, but love Antihelios oil for my body.

I'm quite the LRP groupie

BreastOfIntentions · 03/03/2020 10:42

Have a proper wash with facecloth at least once a day, and always use SPF no matter the time of year!

farhanac · 03/03/2020 13:54

The main thing is to make sure they are drinking enough water

Realitea · 03/03/2020 14:50

We all have very sensitive skin and use gentle products for our skin and for washing clothes. In the summer, due to half the family also having vitiligo, we use factor 50 suncream. We use eczema body wash and aveeno shampoo. I also use a lot of moisturiser!

DisgruntledGuineaPig · 03/03/2020 17:29

We're another family thatdon't really have a skin care routine for the kids ! Both get sun cream in the summer months, but over winter, nothing. We don't use bubble bath as it seems to lead to dry patches on their skin.

del2929 · 03/03/2020 18:13

a good moisturiser after bath does wonders- we use childs farm

michael888 · 03/03/2020 18:58

Both our DD and DS have eczema so we take particular care with their skin. A barrier cream after bathing is a must to trap in the moisture whilst the skin is still slightly moist.

We all just sunscreen throughout the year, even though we live in the northern hemisphere.

sharond101 · 03/03/2020 19:35

A good diet, plenty of clear fluids and sunscreen!

pfcpompeysarah · 03/03/2020 22:36

We use Cetraben in our house as my son has quite dry skin and it helps massively to stop him itching and flaking up.

Elizasmum02 · 04/03/2020 12:23

we often spesak about skin care in our house as my brother in law her terminal skin cancer, the kids are very aware of using =sun screen in the sumer and . in winter a frm of cream that also protects from the sun !

kateandme · 04/03/2020 12:58

always use suncream.get them into theroutine of doing it as a rule so it doesnt become a chore they hate bfore they can go out!
aftersun is a great moisteriser and gentle product.

StewPots · 04/03/2020 13:26

My DS has eczema on the tops of his arms and legs - we currently use Dermol 500 for this, as a bath emollient and a moisturiser.

But he misses having the child friendly bottles with the nice smells etc and dermol isn't exactly made for a fun bath time. He's only 6 and it makes me feel bad.

I'd welcome recommendations for anything else we can try which won't set off his eczema!

DD and I stick to a regime of cleansing, exfoliating toning and moisturising and my skin is a lot better nowadays!

xaphan77 · 04/03/2020 17:56

always moisturise! and in the summer use one with a sun factor

fishnships · 04/03/2020 18:33

Having a large container of epsom salts and encouraging the family to use it helps their skin. It is lovely and soft afterwards and as a bonus it eases aches and pains (great after a hike) and provides potassium.
