Family skincare tips shared with La Roche-Posay

Keeping your family’s skin healthy can be difficult, particularly once the winter chill sets in. With that in mind, La Roche-Posay would like to hear about the skincare tips you have.

Here’s what La Roche-Posay has to say: “Extreme temperatures, a lack of humidity in the air and even strong wind can weaken the protective layer of the skin, causing it to lose natural moisture. This is why you tend to notice even more dry or sensitive skin in winter. It is key to pay attention to these signs and take extra care of your family’s skin during this time of the year. We would love to understand what winter skin concerns you and your family have, and how you are dealing with them”

Do you have a skincare routine that works for the whole family? Maybe you have ‘hero’ products that seem to do everything for everyone? Does La Roche-Posay feature on your family’s skincare routine? Perhaps you have tips on things to avoid to keep your skin healthy?

Whatever your family skincare tips, share them below to be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for the store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

High factor suncream in the summer, lower in the winter. We live in a hard water area so my skin is permanently dry, so I have to lather in moisturiser all the time, otherwise I look like a wrinkly old handbag!!

lolly2010 · 09/03/2020 20:21

We don't have a set routine but I bath my youngest every other day to prevent his skin drying out. We use sunscreen in the summer.

OoohTheStatsDontLie · 09/03/2020 21:21

In the winter I put moisturiser and if its really cold / windy, an additional layer of vaseline on top of exposed skin eg the face. If I don't my daughters skin becomes chapped, red and sore

biffyboom · 10/03/2020 13:47

I try to lead by example and encourage my children to moisturise regularly, especially as the youngest has eczema, so needs to keep on top of it, and the elder has dry skin and previously suffered from eczema when younger.
With sunscreen I apply it at the same time as my children, so that it doesn't seem like a big deal and it's something they will hopefully continue on themselves as they get older.

I use effaclear daily. Really notice the difference when the face wash runs out and I use something else, just wish it was available in supermarkets to buy. My husband uses it when he has a breakout but usually just uses basic shower gels. My 4 year old daughter also gets the occasional dab of effaclear moisturiser but that’s because she wants to do what mummy is doing!

Pimmsypimms · 10/03/2020 22:58

Shower gel for extra dry skin stops me from itching. Sun cream on everyday in summer to try and help keep my hyperpigmentation at bay and face cream for blemish prone skin as at 42, My skin is still prone to breakouts!

SUnscreen in the summer and lip balm for the winter

queenoftheschoolrun · 12/03/2020 14:16

We all use Factor 50 sunscreen

RedLentilYellowLentil · 12/03/2020 18:55

I use E45 for moisturiser on my face. No one else uses anything. We don't have central heating, though, and I wonder if that helps.

Blondie1982 · 12/03/2020 20:49

I think it's important to use age appropriate products if they're available

rocketriffs · 14/03/2020 08:57

Hydrate. We always have dinking water at hand and encourage the kids to take regular sips. After bath time, I still apply baby oil and in summer, a high factor sun cream to the skin. In winter, sometimes dry patches appear, so I apply E45 cream to the affected areas.

StickChildNumberTwo · 14/03/2020 10:18

We don't anything complicated - washing in the bath/shower, washable wipes for cleaning mucky faces, obviously lots of hand washing especially at the moment (and fortunately that doesn't seem to affect any of our skin badly). Suncream in summer. That's about it.

Jade1976 · 14/03/2020 15:32

Suncream, wash with a pH 5.5 body wash, avoid SLS in shampoos

Piper1985 · 15/03/2020 09:55

We all use skincare products I use no7 creams which are amazing and my husband uses loreal for men which he swears by.for our children we use Johnsons baby lotion and because our daughter has eczema we use cetreban which works wonders

Quietvoiceplease · 15/03/2020 15:04

I think we're fairly low maintenance as a family: soap in the shower or bath (less plastic than shower gel), but we all have various elements of dry skin, so use emollient creams after washing. These vary but include E45, Cetrophil, Aveeno or others. Good facial moisturisers with sun screen most of the year on our faces. Would love to know a good SPF moisturiser for teenage/spotty skin.

avery64 · 15/03/2020 17:47

As a family we all have a tendency towards dry skin. E45 works wonders but the problem is remembering to use it regularly rather tan waiting for a flare up. We are all guilty of it!

grannybiker · 15/03/2020 20:46

Moisturise all year round using quite basic products with out scents.
From March onward, make sure your facial moisuriser contains sunscreen. On the subject of sunscreen, please don't neglect this or get complacent.

nanoobaku · 15/03/2020 23:21

Regular using of E45 does wonders for skin for the whole family

angiehoggett · 16/03/2020 08:36

I use a sonic cleansing device it really does work on getting the skin super clean.

Bellroyd · 16/03/2020 08:53

This is a bit of a thing in our house. My husband's answer to all facial and bodily cleaning is to vigorously wash with soap and water, using a bar of Wright's Coal Tar. Apart from the mess he leaves everywhere for me to clean up, I have told him umpteen times that he should take more care over his skin like the rest of us. He never uses cleansers or moisturises and I think he over-washes his face.

angela121262 · 16/03/2020 13:19

Use unbranded items which are for sensitive skin so all the family can use

BRILLBY · 16/03/2020 14:29

I go by 'treat skin as sensitive even if you don't think it is'. It seems easier to prevent dry, itchy skin than to treat it. Therefore I apply body lotion to prevent dry skin and use an unperfumed wash without sodium lauryl sulfate - from one of the baby ranges. For the face I also use Simple products as they're unperfumed too as well as being good value.

molly57 · 16/03/2020 19:52

The inside of the body is as important as the outside so drinking lots of water is vital.

phillw · 16/03/2020 23:29

Use sunscreen throughout the year, autumn and spring sun can still be very strong.

alem17 · 17/03/2020 14:46

Keep out of the sun when it's at its hottest in the middle of the day and use high SPF suncream always.
