This sponsored discussion is now closed. Thank you to everyone who shared their stories below.

We've all experienced that sinking feeling when you open the washing machine door and realise all is not as it should be, which is why Cushelle have created new Facial Tissues - designed to not fall apart in the wash. Beyond just a rogue tissue, Cushelle want to know - what's accidentally made it into your machine and ruined the whole load?

Here’s what Cushelle has to say: “Cushelle, the irresistibly cushiony soft toilet tissue brand, has launched facial tissues for colds, hay fever and messy kids! Cushelle Facial Tissues are soft, strong and also washing machine resistant, meaning they won’t break up in the wash if accidentally left in a pocket.”

Have you realised a phone or wallet was inside the machine when it was too late because of unemptied pockets? Or maybe you’ve followed cliche and accidentally washed a new red shirt along with the whites, leaving you embracing a new found love for pink? Whether it was some spare change, a felt tip pen, or your monthly train ticket that ended up in your wash, Cushelle want to hear your stories below.

All who share their stories on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one lucky MNer will win a £300 voucher for a store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

2 Mobiles have ended up in there & bus passes. All in back pocket & thrown in machine without checking. Bus passes have survived as in plastic wrapping but the mobiles have not worked. Costly error.

My daughters red mitten was stuck in the arm of her jumper and it died the whole wash pink. That included my fluffy cream towels that I had just bought

i bought my daughter an mp3 player and loaded it with her favourite songs for her 4th birthday and used it at her party. After this we were disappointed that it went missing. As the seasons rolled by and I washed a zip up hoodie I found that it had been in the pocket all along.....but only at the point of transfering it from the washer to the dryer. I havent had the guts to tell her yet but hope to replace it before next birthday :D

Chewing gum & a watch that was in a pocket and a delicate top that should have been handwash only, so it shrunk to half its size.

My Oyster card (London contactless travelcard) ended up in the wash but amazingly it still worked!

Leanfun · 25/02/2020 10:29

My husband’s favourite football top I put it into my dark wash his top was white. It came out pink needless to say he wasn’t happy

emmal01 · 25/02/2020 10:32

A sanitary pad - absolutely vile!

AhoyMrBeaver · 25/02/2020 10:36

I left some long screws in the back pocket of my DIY trousers, and one of them got stuck through a hole in the washer drum and, put simply, knackered the washer. I denied all knowledge...

amsquared · 25/02/2020 10:40

A yellow duster left in the washing machine which added interesting yellow stains to 6 pairs of my nearly new Tommy Hillfigger white boxers!

Sockmonster23 · 25/02/2020 10:41

I hope this had happened to all parents but my sons very wet nappy in a wash at a mums ruining her favourite jumper 🙄 I was so tired. Have no idea how that nappy got in the wash. Yuck

maureen3733 · 25/02/2020 10:55

a toy tractor left in an unchecked pocket caused the demise of my washing machine. had to buy another because it ruined the drum and all the clothes in it from dye

hibbertheather · 25/02/2020 11:40

Literally only yesterday my baby's brand new white rugby shirt ended up in the same wash as my brother's filthy muddy football shoes and kit and got ruined! And when I was younger I put a spanner in my mums washing machine by accident, it had been on the kitchen side and I must have knocked it down into the basket and not noticed, didn't realise until the washing machine started making loud banging noises, the spanner was banging against the glass, we had to do an emergency stop and drain it all over the kitchen to get it out 🤣

Florentina · 25/02/2020 12:17

For me, the worst thing I ruined in the washing machine was my mobile phone. This happens to SO many people I'm sure, but I really could have kicked myself when it happened to me! The trouble is that as a busy, distracted mum mistakes like this are so easy to make!!

danigrace · 25/02/2020 12:22

A nappy - enough said!!

purpleclaire · 25/02/2020 12:24

Packet of chewing gum left in my husband's work trousers - mostly stayed in the pocket, but melted and very sticky!

MarieKlepto · 25/02/2020 12:28

A small cat toy stuffed with micro polystyrene beads. Which burst. We were finding tiny white balls for weeks!

sheilads105 · 25/02/2020 12:28

On holiday in a hotel, my youngest's cuddly bunny got swept up in the bed sheet laundry by mistake....luckily the bunny survived and we laugh about it today (15 years later)

andywedge · 25/02/2020 12:29

Anything coloured with the whites, like that rogue black sock
Bye bye whites

lizd31 · 25/02/2020 12:31

My Mum has Alzheimer's & tends to wake up in the middle of the night & put loads of things in the wash including all the clean clothes in her wardrobe & her incontinence pads & pull ups which then fall apart & stick to all the clothes. It's an absolute nightmare to get off bless her.

WhiteKnuckleRide · 25/02/2020 12:41

I accidentally washed DPs Casio watch a few months ago - came out ticking away! No damage done Grin

AuFinch · 25/02/2020 12:44

Our sons Audio speaker Pillow - how was I supposed to know he had bought one and obviously as I was at that time of the month where I am literally on "auto-pilot" I didnt notice a jack plug hanging off it - in it went and yes it was completely ruined, as it just turned into a normal pillow with a hard bit inside it!

MBirch · 25/02/2020 12:54

My works mobile phone, I'd only had it a couple of weeks. The sim still worked, so I got another handset and never told my boss
