This sponsored discussion is now closed. Thank you to everyone who shared their stories below.

We've all experienced that sinking feeling when you open the washing machine door and realise all is not as it should be, which is why Cushelle have created new Facial Tissues - designed to not fall apart in the wash. Beyond just a rogue tissue, Cushelle want to know - what's accidentally made it into your machine and ruined the whole load?

Here’s what Cushelle has to say: “Cushelle, the irresistibly cushiony soft toilet tissue brand, has launched facial tissues for colds, hay fever and messy kids! Cushelle Facial Tissues are soft, strong and also washing machine resistant, meaning they won’t break up in the wash if accidentally left in a pocket.”

Have you realised a phone or wallet was inside the machine when it was too late because of unemptied pockets? Or maybe you’ve followed cliche and accidentally washed a new red shirt along with the whites, leaving you embracing a new found love for pink? Whether it was some spare change, a felt tip pen, or your monthly train ticket that ended up in your wash, Cushelle want to hear your stories below.

All who share their stories on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one lucky MNer will win a £300 voucher for a store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

My Iphone X

A really expensive silk kaftan accidentally got put in a 30 degree wash when it should have been hand wash or dry clean only ... the dye ran everywhere!

littlemonkeyz · 25/02/2020 15:55

My husband's entire wallet which he left in his back pocket. Fortunately, it came out pretty intact although the cards were not exactly flat and several receipts had decorated my son's black school trousers.

It's many years ago now, but a football season ticket ended up in the wash (price nowadays £600+). Fortunately, it wasn't too badly damaged, just smudged, and after careful drying, and a bit of filling in with a pencil, it was OK and the regular gatemen at the football club were very understanding. Since then it's only been the odd tissue.

I had a lovely England embroidered cabled cricket jumper by Kent & Curwen which they stopped producing, it like others in this thread managed to get washed with a rogue item, a red sock which managed to bleed throughout the load. I was devastated at the time and never managed to find a decent replacement! Sad

My husbands phone which he left in his jeans pocket. I didn't check the pockets and only realised when it started crashing around in the washing machine.

Jayfee · 25/02/2020 16:39

Potential boyfriend s phone number..he was the one that got away!

amusedbush · 25/02/2020 17:09

I ran a load of laundry and totally forgot about it, so a couple of days later I ran it again.

Opened it up to find DH's Fitbit Shock

I feigned ignorance when he told me it wasn't working, but thankfully it seemed to dry out and fix itself!

amesn · 25/02/2020 17:23

My husband's USB sticks with EVERYTHING on them that he needs for work and a packet of chewing gum. Not an ideal combination on a hot wash Blush

IonaAilidh11 · 25/02/2020 17:28

house keys more than once

del2929 · 25/02/2020 17:46

ive had plenty of incidents and have wanted to scream

ashde · 25/02/2020 17:47

My daughter's beloved ipod was caught up in the pile of washing. Did come out clean but wasn't working anymore.

sexyandsweet · 25/02/2020 17:53

misscherry · 25/02/2020 17:54

missfab · 25/02/2020 17:55

use to wash some of the old paper cash notes before, so sad.

AR2012 · 25/02/2020 18:01

accidentally washed a silk tie which had a pattern i can no longer get hold of. Ruined it in a high temp wash.

Ikea1234 · 25/02/2020 18:10

Who hasn't had a washing disaster of some sort?!? Bank cards, fluff inducing tissues, a phone, a memory stick, a tube of glitter, (eeeeek!!) and a red sports sock in a hot whites wash have all breakthrough our machine! I've even not thought about what I'm doing and put a dishwasher tab in the machine instead of a washing tab. Apparently a certain Internet cleaning sensation now recommends it for whiter whites....but you heard it here first!

liz1970 · 25/02/2020 18:30

I shrunk my husbands wool jumper. I forgot it was in the washer, then put a 60 degrees white wash on..... ooops :/

bobistheboss · 25/02/2020 18:31

My red xmas table runner is definitely not colour safe and turned the entire was very strange colours

sezz35 · 25/02/2020 18:36

nothing as disastrous as a phone! More like tissue or paper that is then covering everything in the machine in a damp dusty form!

PINKTEEGAN · 25/02/2020 18:46

I once washed my dads teeth hahaha we were searching everywhere for them and I found them mixed with my fresh washing! I have never seen them look as white haha!

sammylea80 · 25/02/2020 19:11

my mobile phone! I had it in my hand while loading the machine and the next thing I remember was seeing it pressed up against the door!

pennwood · 25/02/2020 20:04

I had a (much loved) teddy bear that was given to me on the day I was born. My young DD was helping load the washing machine and thought it needed a wash so popped it in the machine without telling me. Needless to say it disintegrated and covered the entire wash in teddy hair, but fortunately the colour did not. Teddy did not survive!

Husband had driven a car home from work he'd fixed (as needed a test drive so was easier to do that and return the next day at work) it was a very expensive car.
The next morning he went to go to work and couldn't find the key..
Yep it was in the machine on its final spin

It didn't work in the ignition or anything after.. That was a weeks wage to get a new key and programmed.

Thankfully the customer was understanding and used the spare until the new one was ordered and programmed.
