The prize draw for this activity has now closed.

Most people spend their time counting down the days until their family holiday as soon as the flights and accommodation are booked. Family holidays give us a chance to escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, but most importantly allow us to let loose and have fun. Maybe you’re an adrenaline junkie who heads for the biggest slide at the waterpark or perhaps your idea of fun is basking in the sun at the poolside with a good book in hand. With this in mind, TUI wants to hear about your most fun family holiday.

Here’s what TUI have to say: “At TUI, we know that your family holiday is a time to reconnect and have fun. That’s why we’ve designed hotels especially for families to make it the best week, or two, of the year. From allowing you to take your car seat or pushchair with you free of charge, to offering baby changing facilities, kids’ clubs and children’s buffets in resort, we’ve thought of every little detail to give you a hassle free and family-friendly holiday. We’d love to hear from Mumsnetters about their favourite holiday moments with their family.”

If you were asked to name one family holiday that is most memorable to you as being “fun”, what would you say and why? What type of holiday do you feel you can get the most fun out of? Would you rather spend your time in good company, basking in the good weather or eating good food? What kind of activities do you do to make memories with your children on holiday? Perhaps you all jump into the pool the second you arrive at the resort? Or maybe you’d rather go on a family excursion to see the local sights and scenery?

Tell us about your most fun family holiday on the thread below and you will be entered into a prize draw where 1 MNer will win a £300 voucher for a store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

My favourite memories of family holidays as a child involved going to Cornwall for weeks in the summer holidays. Lots of time by the beach, building castles and swimming!

Maiyakat · 02/01/2020 22:00

Watching DD and her cousins running around a chilly beach in Northumberland in coats and wellies having a fabulous time Smile

Silver Strand Beach, Ireland... we went camping with our 2 and 5 year old, who played with neighbouring families in the grass and each other's tents! Each day we walked down to the stunningly beautiful beach and paddled and built sand castles and had a ball. Memories

katieskatie82 · 02/01/2020 23:12

one pf our best family holidays was when 18 members of our family all went to Butlins. We had a fabulous time together as a family!

Bunnylady54 · 03/01/2020 08:35

I was very lucky as a child & got to travel quite a bit. Probably the best family holiday was 3 weeks camping in Switzerland. The tents were huge & had everything you needed & the site was beautiful. We climbed lots of mountains, visited quaint villages & ate amazing chocolate! Pretty sure you daughter would moan for Britain on a holiday like that but my brother & I loved it

Bunnylady54 · 03/01/2020 08:36

My daughter not you daughter!

From my childhood to my children's, it has to be centerparcs

There is something to suit everyone, lots to do as a family and activities for children to do alone which builds up their confidence and gets them used to meeting new people and making friends while enjoying an activity

EvilHerbivore · 03/01/2020 16:05

As a LP I have only recently been braved an airport/flight with my 2 DSs, and even then we only went to Ireland (from England)
They loved the whole experience though and it gave me more confidence to try it again at some point

Our ur most fun holiday are always the simple ones where we stayed in a caravan, near the beach but on a campsite with loads of outdoor /indoor activities My kids love nature and there is loads to do in the nearby forest. We just forget about routines, rules and worries.
Staying in posh hotels isn’t fun with kids as its stressful in case they break anything or bother other guest . I find it more fun to keep it cheap cheerful and simple and prepared for all weather.

I had a wonderful childhood with my parents and although we didn't holiday abroad, I can remember having such fun on holidays here at home. One holiday in particular when I was about 6 or 7, we went to Cornwall which was about a 9 hour drive. I remember the roads being gridlocked and an ice cream van parked on the hard shoulder serving ice creams - I'm not sure that would be allowed nowadays.

I remember fun days at the outdoor pool at the holiday park, swimming in the sea and eating my very first Cornish pasty - I remember they were huge.

clairbear · 03/01/2020 23:00

Our most fun family holiday was to Kos, we had lots of time relaxing, messing around in the pool, swimming in the sea and visiting historical sites. The food was also delicious!

Fun can be all kinds of things, it depends on how we're feeling, what we're in the mood for, and of course how old our kids are.
In the past we've had really fun holidays abroad that have focussed on water parks and beaches, but last year with 3 teens we had a really fun holiday in the UK and spent every day visiting castles, climbing mountains and driving round the coast. It's all subjective.

a last minute short break with family in cornwall. the weather was good for a change and we all had so much fun outside without having to spend much money

Mariobug25 · 04/01/2020 21:01

My best memories have come from our trip to Disneyland Paris last year. It’s my first time (and my son and daughters!) and it was super magical. I seen joy in my sons face that I’d never seen before!! The most memorable is seeing him sprint over to Goofy with so much energy and joy! I’ll never forget that moment!

MostlyChocolate · 04/01/2020 21:12

I remember when I was about 7 and went on holiday to Greece with what was then Thompson holidays. It was and still is the best holiday of my life (barring my pre wedding holiday and honeymoon with husband!). I remember mum and dad getting so excited that we'd got a free upgrade to stay in one of Halikikis princess hotels! I remember the crazy amount of pools, poolside bars, endless unlimited ice cream!!! Discovering pineapple juice and mango juice for the first time! Having my first mocktail! Swimming until I couldn't swim anymore!!! Sleeping soundly on the softest bed at night and waking up to do it all again the next day!!! Haha!!! Oh and one of the best bits, the bird managerie at the top of the hill above the hotel and being chased by the turkeys!!!! #bestfamilyholidayever

A memorable holiday was booked through yourselves to Florida for a milestone birthday with my family, it was great to be able to take them to the theme parks, Space centre, relax at the pool, enjoy great food, there was something for everyone on this holiday ❤️, Thanks for helping us make special memories Tui.

The most fun is one that has minimum problems, where we can enjoy our time straight away. I use a wheelchair.

I pay extra for a private transfer in a wheelchair accessible vehicle. I shouldn't have to pay extra, the free transfer offered with the package should be accessible to all.
When the paid for transfer arrives, it should actually be accessible. Not a standard minibus with 4 people lifting my £2k electric wheelchair in to the back. Because at the other end, there was only the driver and a guy he shouted to on the street to get my wheelchair off again. It's lucky the dropped it on its side and not where the battery is located.

Welcome meeting with rep - shouldn't be in a bar downstairs that's not wheelchair accessible. Yes I knew that the nightclub wasn't accessible and wasn't bothered. Not a clubber. But I'm the one who organises stuff and goes to these meetings, not my DH.

Rep shouldn't be the only way to get tickets to the water park that is included within our break when they're only on site once every other day during a 1 week break.

TUI CS shouldn't have told us there was a courtesy bus as transport to the water park when there wasn't.

TUI disabled travellers phone line, the only way to book a holiday when you have a disability, should answer the phone quicker. 7 phone calls in 8 weeks prior to departure as holiday was still not confirmed. Each call took more than 90 mins to answer. Call backs were never received.

TUI need to do a lot more for disabled travellers, Thomas Cook were fantastic. I had vowed never to use TUI again and would have been loyal to TC for many years to come, for one reason only. They made it easy for me. Not rocket science stuff or going above and beyond. They answered the phone. The transfers were free and vehicles were accessible. The reps available. That's it.

It's when we went to The Netherlands on the ferry and stayed in a youth hostel where are two young sons loved the comings and going of the young adults. They relished the journey by sea and the travelling on trains in a foreign country which was familiar and unfamiliar!

EagleVisionSquirrelWork · 05/01/2020 13:54

Our most memorable holiday was also one of the cheapest and simplest. The kids were all under 12 or so and we drove to a village on the Norfolk coast where we'd rented a cheap cottage. We ordered a Tesco food delivery so we didn't have to spend time and money finding somewhere to eat out every night and walked 2 minutes to the beach each day. That was literally all we did for a week and it was great. Everyone remembers it as one of the most relaxed holidays we ever had even though it was thoroughly unremarkable in almost every respect. BUT. We were really lucky to have fantastic weather all week. It could have been a whole different story if it had rained, so I get why people spend a lot on travelling to destinations where the weather is more reliable.

froggers1 · 05/01/2020 14:26

Drove to Lake Garda for 3 weeks camping. Went through so many countries..it was amazing! France, Belgium, Austria, Germany. I remember it all!

Cheryl1503 · 05/01/2020 14:36

We recently lost our holiday through Thomas cook but quickly booked the exact same one for £1500 less with TUI. We visited Mexico and it was amazing. There are lots of different eco parks where we swam in denotes, snorkelled and ziplined over the jungle. We had so mich fun and the hotel was beautiful

rocketriffs · 05/01/2020 15:11

The kids have always said the time we all went to Butlins camp in Ayr was the best holiday place ever. Everyday was fantastic. Horse riding, Go Carts, Fun Fair, Theatre shows and much more activities all in one place.

sbruin1122 · 05/01/2020 19:43

our traditional 2 week holiday in France was wonderful. We visited the circus which was great with the kids.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 05/01/2020 19:45

We did our first AI holiday this year, to Malta. We loved it, despite it being a very 'marmite' place on Mnet.

Beautiful hotel, huge family room. Lovely covered sunbeds by the pool to avoid sunburn but to enjoy dipping in and out of the pool.

Different restaurants in the complex to book into. And lots of different drinks that the 18yo could try and decide which ones she liked - and most she did not!
A very relaxed holiday, with a lovely boat trip to the blue lagoon for an amazing snorkelling experience.

So we where on the beach.on holiday at padstow in cornwall. Looking in rock pools for fish crabs etc me dad slipped fell in it was that deep it was to his chin everyone was laughing. And he had to walk back to the caravan soaking wet took a week to dry his trainers out.
