The prize draw for this activity has now closed.

Most people spend their time counting down the days until their family holiday as soon as the flights and accommodation are booked. Family holidays give us a chance to escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, but most importantly allow us to let loose and have fun. Maybe you’re an adrenaline junkie who heads for the biggest slide at the waterpark or perhaps your idea of fun is basking in the sun at the poolside with a good book in hand. With this in mind, TUI wants to hear about your most fun family holiday.

Here’s what TUI have to say: “At TUI, we know that your family holiday is a time to reconnect and have fun. That’s why we’ve designed hotels especially for families to make it the best week, or two, of the year. From allowing you to take your car seat or pushchair with you free of charge, to offering baby changing facilities, kids’ clubs and children’s buffets in resort, we’ve thought of every little detail to give you a hassle free and family-friendly holiday. We’d love to hear from Mumsnetters about their favourite holiday moments with their family.”

If you were asked to name one family holiday that is most memorable to you as being “fun”, what would you say and why? What type of holiday do you feel you can get the most fun out of? Would you rather spend your time in good company, basking in the good weather or eating good food? What kind of activities do you do to make memories with your children on holiday? Perhaps you all jump into the pool the second you arrive at the resort? Or maybe you’d rather go on a family excursion to see the local sights and scenery?

Tell us about your most fun family holiday on the thread below and you will be entered into a prize draw where 1 MNer will win a £300 voucher for a store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

our best holiday was camping in Norfolk with a big group of friends and their children. It was raining for most of it but we had such fun with the children playing on the campsite and cooking on a tiny stove for loads of us. We had so many laughs and made lots of happy memories. One of my best friends that we went with has sadly passed away now but i always remember that holiday.

Betterversionofme · 27/12/2019 19:57

With my 3 children and their father. About 10 years ago, children were between ages 2 and 7 years. We were staying in a mountain resort in a cottage. Summer holiday. It was raining about half of our stay but rain was warm. Children enjoyed running out in their underwear. They deemed it very funny - to be in their nickers AND in the rain.

It was a week caravan trip in the middle of nowhere in perthshire when I was 9. I just had such a good experience, the snow was deep, wildlife watching from the window etc. Obviously that's about 5 minutes of memories there and I probably whinged all week like mine do but anyway it remains my best holiday!

We went on a tui holiday to la Pineda in Spain and it was perfect with kids.

Plenty for them to do. Felt nice and safe and plenty of excursions to portaventura and Barcelona.

Dangermouse80 · 27/12/2019 22:26

As a kid the accomodation really didn't matter it was all about the fairground rides / arcades and beach. It is still the same for my kids. Accomodation wise; self catering is our favourite as you are not tied to certain meal times and can do as you please.

A trip to Disneyland with my husband ,children and mother and father in law was magical. ( particularly as they paid). Our little princesses had lunch with the Disney Princesses. We had a great night at Mickey and Minnie`s Buffalo Bills night and of course plenty of exciting rides and character meals. An experience I can fully recommend.

For as long as I can remember we have always booked our holidays with TUI , even when it was called LunnPolly! The best holiday I ever had with TUI was to Greece Kos! Even now at 30 I still go back to the same hotel with TUI because I know we're always taken care of! Not once have we ever had a problem with TUI & we will keep using them for as long as possible! Here's to our 2020 holiday with TUI Smile

Reading this made me realise that sometimes holidays can be hard work rather than fun... or mostly they're a bit of both. My most fun holiday I think was in France on a campsite where the kids made friends, there were water slides, a disco and a beach, and lots of amazing French food shops for me. But the fun parts on holiday come at unexpected times, too, like when you can't climb onto your child's giant inflatable in the pool without looking like a beached whale and when you find the hardest mini golf course ever. We've also had fun holidays in the UK, even in the pouring rain: whoever invented bowling alleys and indoor water parks is a genius....

Holiday to Malta three years ago. Half the week devoted to the children learning to scuba dive which they loved. Then rest of week relaxing doing fun activities such as ocean bouncy inflatables, sea sofa activity, paragliding over the ocean and boat trip to nearby islands. Keeping the kids entertained is key to a good holiday for us.

Spending it with my little family in Tenerife, making memories

AnimalAddict · 28/12/2019 15:35

We went to Butlins a few times when I was a kid and I absolutely loved it. There were so many fun things to do for adults and kids alike.

My most recent holiday was with all of my siblings families and my parents. We had such a lovely time in the pool and beach and the grandparents got to spend some really great quality time with the kids!

angiehoggett · 29/12/2019 17:35

I think some of the best family holidays I had was with my parents and brother. We used to go camping with another family and had some of the best times even though it was a very simple and cheap holiday.

DamnItsSevenAM · 29/12/2019 17:38

We love to see local sights, go on walks, enjoy nice food and spend time on family activities such as board games and kiting. Some of our most fun moments have been in self catering accommodation just hanging out spending time together.

fish88 · 29/12/2019 18:20

Now that we have young children we tend to go all inclusive at a big resort where as previously we would have gone self catering, somewhere a bit off the beaten track. Our last holiday in summer 2018 was the best one we have had as a family. There was water slides in the kids pool which meant the children were happy to play there all day every day. It was a much more relaxing holiday when we didn't have to put much effort into entertaining them. The kids club was also pretty good. My eldest tended to go in the afternoon whilst the youngest was napping.

cinabar · 29/12/2019 20:45

A holiday to mid Wales that was in a caravan near a water park. We were also in walking distance of the beach, so had sunny days playing on the beach and eating ice cream. Not the most expensive holiday but one of the most fun.

villagefox · 29/12/2019 22:16

Our first family holiday abroad was two years ago. We booked three weeks before we went and got a great deal on the holiday in Cyprus (which just happened to be with TUI!). It was an all inclusive family holiday which meant we spent very little money when there and the hotel was geared towards families with lots of organised activities and kids club. We also took the opportunity to go on the tour company excursions (which we are not normally a fan of) which were lots of fun and a great way to see the local sights if you are not brave enough to see the local sights. On the last day of the holiday we went to the zoo and fed a baby tiger a bottle of milk!! We had lots of 'firsts' on this trip and that's why its out favourite holiday.

becks213 · 30/12/2019 02:22

My most favourite holiday was a family holiday to Barcelona, it was such an amazing place to visit with everything you could want for a holiday, I just wish we booked for longer as we all had such a fun time. I can't wait for us to go back

WhatILoved · 30/12/2019 05:28

As a child and teenager we used to go to Puerto pollensa in Mallorca. We used to go with several families so there was always something fun to do or someone to chat to. As a teenager we used to get up to much mischief with the locals!

myusername12345 · 30/12/2019 13:13

Our favourite family holiday so far has been a trip to France, and enjoying the culture, food and new environment. We stayed in a caravan park, and drove ourselves via a ferry crossing.

Sierra259 · 30/12/2019 21:44

We did a trip to the Canary Islands before DC1 started school. The kids both loved the toddler pool and the beach, and the choice of food on all-inclusive was incredible. DC1 has recently started asking if we can go again, but I don't think we could afford it in school holiday time Crown Sad

sorryiasked · 31/12/2019 08:43

Taking ds10 and dm75 to a water park, (first time for both of them), we all had so much fun. It was a proper family holiday where all ages were catered for.

mollymoo818 · 31/12/2019 09:34

I normally like 'staycations' and camping but probably the most fun holiday we had as a family was a week on the Costa del Sol. We rented a car and drove the whole coast seeing some of the beautiful sights which satisfied my needs and we also managed to visit a water park which the kids absolutely loved and I was surprised to learn that it was something that I enjoyed too. We went in the morning and stayed until closing time and had an amazing time.

chris8888 · 31/12/2019 13:35

We went camping in Angelsey, it was windy, the tent almost disappeared. The twin buggie got blown away and ended up in a field. At least the kids weren`t in it! Great holiday though it did put me off camping for a long time.

WTFdidwedo · 31/12/2019 14:21

My husband and I took my stepdaughter to Disney World just after she'd turned 4, along with my parents. We shared to villa on Disney property and had the dining plan so everything was taken care of, which was just great in allowing us to relax and enjoy the trip. The 4 adult to 1 child ratio helped massively! We'd all been before as adults so it was a new experience to slow down and experience it through a child's eyes. We really took the time to experience the street entertainment, the character meets and the swimming pools rather than just rushing from ride to ride.

We are now a family of 5 planning to go back in a few years when we've managed to save (it took us about three years last time!) and the adult to child ratio will probably make it a lot less relaxing this time!

I think the key with family holidays is to try to lower your expectations, especially with younger children, and try not to over plan everything as it does not help with stress levels! We like to have at least half board too so we don't have to budget for food or worry about planning meals!
